In keeping with the innocence of the model, I figured that perhaps a skin proving that she plays in the sun a lot would be in order. The Vicky 1/2 useable skin texture is from scratch (literally), and I still have to blend the tan lines better (and fix a few spots as well on that particular color layer, and put in my own nipples/pubic region/etc textures), and I've got a long way to go before she's done (haven't even thought of the face yet :), but I was wondering if anyone likes tan lines on a model... PS: she still looks a little too sunburnt, and I can ease that effect... or should I? Not sure there either. /P

PS: just had a thought - tan lines on the feet (flip-flop outline) or no? /P

Looks very realistic. Sharen

Id stay away from tan lines myself. Given the nature of some of the clothing props available for V, you might limit the textures usefulness because the tan lines wont match up with the clothing -- for example, imagine the Body Jewels sets on something with a pronounced tan line. Eww. =)

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 12:35 PM

Hmm... good point, VS. I'll be working to have the lines fit along the Vicky bikini, which will help a little, but I do see your point quite well... other clothes would look pretty awkward. What if I lessened the effect so that it was just barely visible? The 'sunburn' and 'tan line' effects are on seperate layers of the image, so I can tweak the transparency on 'em as needed. That, or I can provide two seperate skins, so that the user can have a choice between them... one with, one without. /P

quesswho ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 12:37 PM

Just a thought but the tan liines would come up right under the breasts and not be on the ribs and don't forget the racoon eyes also. :) Marge

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 12:42 PM

Hehe - yeah... that's definately one of the things I gotta fix (don't know exactly which wireframe line on the texmap correlated with the lower breast/chest demarcation line... ergo, I still have to adjust it :) In case you're curious, I'm using SnowSultan's Vicky Texture Seam Guide out of Freestuff as a template... I just make that layer invisible before I export the texture map for testing. /P

geep ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 2:28 PM

Do it BOTH ways!

If ya gots 'em on separate layers, it shouldn't be a problem, no?

JMVHO. ;=]

Yeah... That's what I was thinking, too; lets folks have a freedom of choice - tan 'er or bake 'er ;) /P

see # 6 - already mentioned it :) /P

Just a minor gripe with all textures so far. Most come with pubic hair that is black, what about the real blonds and read heads around. Someone might do just the hip section with a choice of hair colors and no hair at all. Same goes with the eyebrows.

See #9.

This version shows only the barest traces of the tan-line, but as you can see, it shows in the right kind of light... VS - would this one do as a general texture? Geep: hehehe - np. I've kept the first variation, and added this one to the pile (still have to add little things like moles, very light freckling, etc, but still, I'm playing with the base textures right now.) Bizarro - I'm looking to make her a natural blonde anyhoo (Katie's hair and eyebrows are going to be blond, so naturally her pubic hair will be :) OTOH, there is a freebie pubic hair prop for Vicki lurking in Free Stuff (and a damn good one, too)which you can color any way you want. As you can see at the moment, she's as bald as the Arctic Ice Cap :)

Umm, what's "SIJCRTO"? /?

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 5:27 PM

That would probably work pretty well, Pen. As with anything, it all comes down to lighting, as different colors are going to bring out different aspects of the skin tones, but it looks good from here. So, a blonde, huh? Working from an actual scan of that as well? (Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!) =)

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 5:38 PM

Well, Figure there's only a billion brunette vicky skins out there, so I thought I'd shoot for a little variety :) Hmm... although my missus happens to be naturally blonde, I seriously doubt that she'd let me crawl into bed with a digital camera ;) (I could ask to borrow her eyebrows and hair for it, tho') Believe it or not, the base skin texturing didn't come from a scan; I merely tweaked the color-noise ratio in GIMP a little, and carefully smoothed it out a bit here and there. the LCD monitor on this laptop cranks out 119 pixels per linear inch, so I get lots of room to play with faux texturing. Now the colors I used OTOH, was sampled from a photo of my wrist and lightened/darkened as needed. the lighting I use for the test renders is either stark white or some shade of gray... no other colors allowed when I'm tweaking skin :) /P

I just hope this doesn't cause any confusion with the P4 Katie character in the free section on my website (which was my very first P4 character back in '98). Maybe you could add your initials or something to the texture name? Kate

Online Now!

Personally I like tanlines on a VicTexture, but most of those I see seem to be from Micro Bikinis. How about a "Cottontail" based on a more modest type? I spent a couple years as a masseur in Vegas at a casino health spa, & (aside from the showgirls who usually tried for an allover, and California girls who tended more to this style) most of the attractive women from all over the country seemed to favor larger more modest briefs - most had much paler bottoms than tops (hence the term "cottontail" :-)). Kind of a "Tan don't burn" Coppertone girl look (the one with the puppy).

Great Bizarro ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 7:19 PM

Well, if you just do textures like are now being done to change eye color for the hip and chest areas you could add tan lines when you want, or give them that all over tan look.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 7:46 PM

KateTheShrew - I can differentiate the texture easily enough("Katebody.jpg" or similar... after all, there's Kate, Katy, Kathrine, Katie... lots o' choices to pick from :) Since it's a Vicky texture, and those pretty much always come in two files (unlike the P4 textures where it's all on one image), it shouldn't be hard to come up with a differentiation. What's your URL, BTW? leather-guy; I know where you're coming from. So far, I have a sunburned body texture, a more subtle body texture (pictured), and it would be relative ease to build a whiter, 'bigger' bum on yet another (I love this layer thingy in GIMP... :) Bizarro: Would those be transmaps, perhaps, or how do those work? /P

Great Bizarro ( ) posted Thu, 07 February 2002 at 7:58 PM

No the area that is to be changed is selected such as just the head or hip and a texture map made for just that area is selected. The head textures that just change eye color use the same texture map as the head texture, but only the eyeball iris white etc. is drawn on the map, leaving the rest of the map unused or white. You then select the area you want to change such as iris, white all the eyeball parts and load this texture to change the eye color, leaving the face texture for the rest of the head the same as it was.

I figured it would be easy to differentiate, especially since your project is for Vicky. Can't wait to see the finished version, btw, she's looking really good. and my URL is http://www.shrewslair.com (and naturally, the place is eternally under construction g) The Shrewster
