"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
Basically it's semantic. 'Mesh' implies it's already been triangulated, 'editable poly' gives you the same low-level access but the faces can be quads (or, in theory, even higher-order polygons). Gotta watch that meshsmooth, too, if you're building for game applications. IMHO the main reason for the enduring popularity of box modeling is that's usually how the low-poly game figures are made, and that's where most of the $$ is to be made.

Aight, as seen in a recent post, It apears that many people like Poly Box modeling, anf I don't blame them, but one question I have, that I hope to be answerd is, What it the difference between an editable mesh, and an editable poly? They both seem to be very similar, and they are both gonna have meshsmooth thrown on em anyway. Can anyone help me out? -RuKus
