Subject: Help, I'm lost in the Local Saloon

I just love that Sams3D saloon. I just wish I could figure how to maneuver inside. I got brave and imported the table obj file. Did I choose the wrong options? Is the table too big? The inside of the saloon seems small compared to what I've seen before. If I move the camera back just a bit, I'm back outside again. I noticed there is a pz3 file for the saloon. Am I supposed to open that rather than the cr2 file?! I feel like such a dummy! Help, please?! Ron

Try using the Dolly Camera when inside, it moves on is pwn axis instead of arround your character.

Marcabros ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 9:23 PM

well like Xurge said already try the Dolly Camera it moves arround your character :))

Thanks for the quick reply. I remain confused. Does the dolly camera move around the character, or not? I've mostly used only the main or face cameras. Maybe that is my mistake?! I got somewhere this time. You can see more of the saloon. Now is that table too big? Is there any texture available for the table?

Ron Don't feel bad, I have a horrible time getting inside and making it look good! Your doing better than I did! :) Sallie

Did you wash him in hot water again? Please read the instructions for washing poser figures. Now he is going to have to shoot saloon mice!

Xurge ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 10:57 PM

The dolly camera is on A dolly. It sort of pans instead of going arround. It is better when you are doing interior scenes.

jstro ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 10:59 PM

Yeah, the table is a bit too big. Don't have the saloon so I'm of no use on how to set up inside. Good pose. jon

Thanks for the compliments, jon & Sallie. Thanks for the tips on the dolly camera. I knew I was missing something. OK, now here is the first question. Look at the attached screenshot. See the checkboxes.. and those correct? Should I change my options?

Is it normal for the table to be sunk into the floor? I brought in Mike after the table was added. Mike ended up literally inside the table! I shrieked in horror!

Ceck the "origen" of the prop.

Select any prop and Command/Control D will drop it to the floor. Most props you import into Poser do not match the figure proportions exactly. You cannot guess what to set the size % at so just import at 100 and rescale. As for the table, import at 100%, Place next to figure. Scale until table top is about level with tip of hip bone. You may have to go up and down and drop-to-floor a few times to get it right. Most poses and objects are seet to import at ZERO X and Z coords, so will occupy same space until repositioned. This is not an error and is usualy the best way and place to import. Don't hang up your guns yet, Ron. Blaze away!! (see above post)

Ron,

I'm going to send you (free of charge, of course) my measuring props. It looks like you could use 'em.
Oh,oh, if U couldn't email me, I might not be able to email you, but I'll try.

Meanwhile [back at the ranch] (couldn't resist that) ...

[menu] "Object" ----> "Properties"
[prop properties window] check "Display Origin"

Now you can see where the prop will go when you "Drop to floor." Change the "OriginY" so that the green cross hairs are level with the bottom of the prop.

Now you can change the "Scale" of the prop and it will stay on the floor even though it's size is changed. You will not have to readjust the "yTrans" everytime you change the "Scale."

BTW - When the prop is selected, you can use the
[menu] "Figure" ----> "Drop to Floor" command
to place the prop on the ground.

More to follow ...

First of all the texture for the table is included in the zip file. Find it and apply it to the table....second you can go to the heiarchy and make all things invisible according to what you want, place your camera people etc then do what ever render you would like, do you understand? Write me a gain if you need more assistance. Sharen SAM'S 3D

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 6:29 AM

Wow, thanks for the great advice. I'm not sue how soon I'll be able to try anything. The weekends are often devoted to the wife, grin. Anyone who wants to email me about anything can use this easy-to-remember email address: ron@ronknights.com I think I can handle up to 5MB in an email, and that covers lots of stuff. (I haven't had to test it often.) If someone needs an alternative way for us to exhange items, I can setup a private FTP account. But we can't use this FTP account for general public usage since it is liable to overrun my bandwidth usage requirements. Geep, I will IM you about this FTP alternative. Sharen, I found the texture, grin. Uhm, so I can make a wall invisible, and then I can do what I want because the wall won't be in the way? This is like magic?! Ron

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 6:33 AM

OH, when I dropped to the floor, the table fell right through the floor! OOPS. Oh, and I found a pz3 file in geometries. Am I supposed to load the pz3 file, or the cr2 file when I load the saloon?!

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 6:59 AM

I would load it from the library, but you can load it either way. Sharen

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 7:00 AM

and yes, invisible walls, get your objects camera all set then you just make the walls visible again, or the roof and floors you can make invisible Sharen

ronknights ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 7:49 AM

Objects camera?! What is that? I guess I don't know much about cameras?! I have a web camera, grin!

geep ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 8:05 AM

... get that table the correct size ... -and- ... on the floor where it belongs. ;=]

Yessir! My sweetie is taking a nap, so I may have time to fiddle. When she gets up, well you know how it is. Sometimes I actually remember why I got married! Grin

UM, Geep, I wasn't thinking like that. My wife takes a nap. That leaves me with time to play on the computer. Then when she wakes, we do other fun things like maybe house cleaning, or some shopping, or watching tv. Oh, you thought I meant something else. I wouldn't talk about that here, grin.

geep ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 4:17 PM

It was THAT statement to which I refer. ;=]
