Subject: Agent >Manager for Poser Artist is there a need?

Hello: My name is Steve Owens and I have been Personal Manager to Movie, TV Stars and Models for the last 10 years in Los Angeles. I have also been a Poser user since verision 1. I am thinking about representing Poser Artists Models, Texture maps, etc.to the Movies Studios and Television World. I know that Elite Models is opening up a division to do the same thing. I would like to get some ideas if you think this would be a good idea. I also don't want to infringe on Renderosity profits so if I would be stepping on toe here I would not do it. Also would you Artist be willing to sell exclusive a piece of work to a Studio?. I have alot to look into on copyright laws still. But if there is enough interest I will move forward. Please anyone with ideas post here or email me starmkr1@msn.com . Thanks Steve

You'll fine plenty of artists who would be willing to sell exclusively here! :o) I don't think you're stepping on anyone's toes.. it's been done before! But how many studios are really interested in Poser?? VL grin Rena

I don't know about the studios and the TV thing, but I do know that there is a market opening up or is pretty much already there for video game companies and publishers. I would love to see someone willing to present artists in those areas.

I'm a writer that has a couple of agents now, and it can boil down to one thing for any kind of artist to have any kind of agent/manager. Is that artist gaining any profit and/or exposure because of said agent/manager? Is it worth it for the artist? That being said, lol...I'm sure you could find a large number of artists willing to see if their work could take them farther with someone helping them out in this avenue. Agent Smith

I dunno, I do commission work and frankly I prefer not to pay an agent a percentage of my commissions - either for the book covers or the private commissions. I honestly don't take on that many commissions as I prefer to stick with my work for gift shops - and I don't need an agent for that. But then I have a good knowledge of contract law and am very specific regarding my own contracts. However I would think there might be a place for it in regards to video games and animations.

The feeback is great.. As far as only Poser Models no. I will will also be looking at Softimage, 3d Studio Max and Lightwave. I turned a animation house on to Poser who was using Houndi and Softimage. They have since bought a package.

I'm not sure what the demand for a poser agent is right now, but I'm sure anyone who creates wouldn't mind having someone who could help them with leads to financial gain providing that the one giving the leads can provide legal advice as well to make sure everything is being done properly. Of course creators are also encouraged to research legal matters as well to make sure they would have an agent that could represent them in the best way possible (goes back to the old joke of the sports player making a million a year.. while their manager made 10 million a year cause the sports player never looked at the contracts lol). I think though that if one could show that they are capable of, and document the need for poser artists, there are plenty of people who would be interested in having someone help them if it could lead to financial gain. Who wouldn't want to make a bit more money doing something they enjoy. :)
