Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.

Thanks Scott :) It's the heads I don't need but the 2 bodies took awhile to pose, so balance, weight etc were realistic according to the tricks performed. Still got a ways to go to finish, just thought I could save time on what's already done. Ah well. . At least I've learnt some since I started so it might not be so difficult this time. Cheers, Masha
Ahhh, poop! My newbiness is showing. I thought morphs WERE the poses. That is, when you move arms, hips, legs etc to different positions - aren't you morphing them? I'm just going to save the P3 figures positions to the poses library, open the two new P4 figures and apply the keyframe poses to them and see if it works with them. Thanks for the wake-up call. :) I'll be baaaaaaack!
heyas; call me crazy, but if you open the animation pz3, select the one figure in the first frame, and double click the corresponding p4 figure.... that'll replace the figure, won't it? and keep the pose stuff. the only thing it does lose is the morph dial settings. but posing is posing, and morphing is morphing. morphing is the dials on the body parts that change the body part shape. like on the head, where you make them smile or blink, etc. if you didn't use smiling and blinking and big boob morphs, you don't really need to change from p3 to p4 figures. the only things different from p3 to p4 are the texture maps, and some of the morphs. they pose the same, however. are you straightened out now? :)
Hey hey Bloodsong :) Sorry I missed replying to this, but believe me your rep was appreciated. I am sooo straightened now I don't even know which way is up or forward. Just like my figures trying to do tricks in Poser. Think I got the idea, sort of. Opened the 2 Poser3 figure combinations into P4 ok, but they are all over the place (probably due to my original bad placements) though they looked ok in P3. As placement is crucial coz the 2 figues interact in slow motion no less, fixing them up is about as time-consuming as doing them from scratch. I realize I'd better ask any further questions in the animating group, so I'll toddle on over there. But thanks heaps for all the help :) :) Masha
Hope this belated comment is useful. The figures may look different if the camera angle or its focal length setting is different from the original P3 scene. (You might try adjusting them.) If you don't move the camera, it doesn't matter if the figures are actually a bit farther forward or back and, for example, the hands don't really touch. But from a camera angle more to the side, the difference is obvious. Making an animation for more than one angle or for a moving camera requires setting up and switching between different camera views while you position the figures. There are keyboard commands that let you switch quickly (PoserProPack gives multiple view panes so you can see the scene from various views at once.) Also, I think Schabbler's Posing is an Art site has some gymnastic poses, and maybe some others around.
Yep had lotsa fun with camera angles. Colour me purple. :)
It seems that Poser4 imports/starts up figures with Main camera on an angle rather than straight on. (Or is it just My poser?
Even after readjusting the figures imported from P3, the X-Z
translations move them on an angle which makes it hard (harder) to position them with each keyframe.
I've resigned myself to doing them all over in P4. They need much improvement anyhow, and I've learnt some since then. That Main Cam angle thing really bugs me though.
Yes, Schlabber's site is great. The stuff I'm doing though is a reproduction of a balancing/statue act, which I and my late husband used to perform, so it has it's unique positions. It has to be slow and smooth so I suspect it will be huge if I don't want it to jerk. Don't know how smooth I'll get it as it needs constant keyframes with the subtle changes in balance and position. Any tips will be gratefully received. :)
Also with camera angles, say if I adjust positions in the Right cam, it's totally off when I return to the Main cam.
Aren't you supposed to do that? I suspect this isn't a problem with just one figure, but when two are interacting..wow
Here's a couple of (unrendered) keyframes to illustrate, (if it manages to post this time) The first pic is the end of one clip (hence the diff body and background, and will be the beginning of another. Have to make lots of short clips of it as in some the Inverse Kinematics is terrifically useful while in others it's impossible and you can't switch it on/off.
Thanks heaps for your time :)

Hi all :) Previous 2 messgs were deleted somehow, so here I go again. I've done an incomplete animation while I had Poser3, would like to finish it in Poser4.03. THing is, can I copy the morphs of the Poser3 figures to the p4 ones so I don't have to totally redo what I have already? There are 2 figure in (acrobatic) balancing poses, and it would be a real pain to start all over. Thanks for any help :) Masha
