Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
Don't know if there are other methods, but I can tell you how I do it. Save the pose as normal. Open the .pz2 in notepad and delete the sections relating to the body parts I don't want. Save the edited file. Job done. Works great for some body parts. For others, remember you need to pose adjacent body parts, too: eg. to raise a leg, the pose needs to include everything up to the hip.
hey erian, man that sounded so simple, but boy did I have problems,(I must just be slow)(smile). I can't select everything except the part I want to save. I highlighted everything down to the shoulder that I wanted to save. now how do I highlight everything past the lines that I want to save so I can delete everything that I have highlighted? Or do I just highlight the part I want to keep and copy that and then paste the keeper in another new doc.? Also the program does not appear to want to save as a PZ2 extention, so I can use it in poser. HELP HELP HELP, I'm and old airbrush hippie not a computer wiz kid, so be more specific if you can. I promise not to forget if I ever understand, (smile) Thanks!!!
mikey, this is going to take a while...I can only give advice for Windows, here, so I hope that's what you use. Okay, first create the pose you want in Poser, and save to your pose library. Let's call it Pose1.pz2 Close Poser, and open notepad, or word, or any text editor. Open Pose1.pz2 in your text editor. The first part of the pose will look like this: version { number 4.01 } thighLength 0.18727 actor hip:1 { channels ...all that is important. You can remove the thigh length line safely, but the rest of the header has to stay there. You'll have a different version number if you're using Pro Pack. Now select the body parts you want to keep. Highlight the sections you want to delete: put the cursor at the beginning of the section (ie mouse click there) then scroll down to the end of the section, leaving the cursor at the top. Hold down the shift key (upward pointing arrow) and mouse click once at the end of the section. That should highlight it all. Then hit the delete key. It's safest to do it a body part at a time, unless you're sure you won't make mistakes. Each body part section looks like this: actor abdomen:1 { channels { rotateY yrot { keys { k 0 9 } } rotateZ zrot { keys { k 0 -12 } } rotateX xrot { keys { k 0 -6 } } translateX xtran { keys { k 0 0 } } translateY ytran { keys { k 0 0 } } translateZ ztran { keys { k 0 0 } } } } ...that is "actor" followed by (body part name), followed by the positioning info. The end of the file should look like this: } } } figure { } } { version { number 4.01 } thighLength 0.18727 figure { } } ...the thigh length info is given twice. If you deleted it at the top, delete it here, too. Then save the file. Just click file -> save, and you should get the .pz2 extension. If for any reason the software you're using refuses to do that, save it as .txt and change the extension manually (that is, use Windows Explorer or something to rename the file) afterwards. I hope that makes sense. If not...it's kinda late in my part of the world, but if you want to email me (dreamer@eirian.net) I'll reply first thing in the morning. Promise. I can walk you through it step by step if you want. yours eirian
eirian, I just got home after a long day , and I can't believe that you went to all that trouble to help me understand this, but first thing in the morning I will be trying this stuff out from you and the other guys. I thank everyone so much for the help and I will keep you posted on my progress. Good night all!! Man what a community!!!!
{{I don't get it. I use the way simpler method Dave71 uses. What are we missing?}} LOL! Believe it or not, I find it lots easier to edit the code directly. Once I understand what it all means, code is easier for me to read than the ticking boxes in poser method. I guess it's just the way my mind works :-)
Okay I just tried the simple method suggested by Dave71 and it worked well. I will be using this method from now on. My head is so full of other technical specs from my job that in poser,(which is a hobby) less is best! But special thanks to eirian ( YOU DA MAN) for your suggestion!!! Keep on rendering GUYS (OH and GALS)(smile)
I do a lot of hacking Poser library files, but I have to agree with Dave71 (post #5) on this one, Select Subset is an easier and faster way to make partial body poses most of the time. There are times however when editing the pz2 is the only way to do something, e.g. adding a BODY actor to the pose file, making a MAT (materials) pose, or a Morph (delta) Injection Pose. In addition to a text editor Mat Pose Edit, Morph Manager 4, and CR2BUILDER, can be handy tools to have, and they are all free.
Adding to a year-old thread, that has to be some kind of a record, LOL! To my knowlege, there is absolutely no reason to mess around with a text editor to make any PZ2 file, all the things you mention and far more are automated in CR2Edit6. It isn't free, but then, most people do place a value on their time. The upgrade from version5 is about the cost of a tex map -- which might be used only once or twice. regards, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit6, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps
