Subject: Things about Poser that make me go aaaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh!

Okay, first off, this is not meant to trash Poser in anyway. I love Poser. But, from time to time, I have these little unexpected things happen... These could be a glitch in Poser a glitch in my System or just something I did wrong. How can I know, unless I ask? So I came up with the idea for this thread. I'd mention a few of the tidbits, hoping that others will do the same, and maybe we can all get some useful feedback as to the cause/solution. Some of my "What gives" are: I go to give one of the dials a slight nudge (a number or two higher or lower) with the mouse, instead it takes a bounding leap on me and jumps 5 to 10 or even higher numbers. Why can't I just bump it up or down one increment at a time? Why does the Poser screen seem to hang or not refresh. I am sure this is a memory prob. I have over 1.gig ram, and over 30 gigs free for swap file plus I run rambooster. Things work fine for a while, and then I go to click on something, or maybe select a new figure from the pulldown menu but Poser does not keep up. I click on figure1, body and the dials for figure 2, head stay showing. I go to move the dials, but figure 2 body moves? It is like, the interface is bogging down or something. Anyone else have this prob? I want to move the forearm on fig 1 so I click on it, but since fig2 is a confroming jacket I get the forearm for it instead. Is there a way, other than using the drop down menu, to select the body part underneath another with the mouse? Like you can in paint programs and such? I have a few more...but these will do for starters.

Poser's inability to hold information about clothing and props in the individual pz3 files, instead of acting like a traffic cop, directing the program to look in RunTime for the various things needed. Most other 3D programs put specific object info in the individual file; they don't require outside info for textures or imported objects because the information is all kept in the file. I've never understood why Poser can't do this as well.

Love poser too, but feelings mutual... - memory: yes that is familiar (I have 768 Mb) but that it gets eaten over time anyway. Trick is as in an adventure game: save often ! When problems occur (things slow down, strange colors, no reaction), reboot. - Select problem: I agree. Selection should follow conform hierarchy in the sensible way which is: if a selection applies to two objects X and Y and Y conforms to X than X should be the result of the selection (I think that is obvious but Poser does the opposite...) - Don't use the dials for precision work, type the value to avoid frustration... Want to add following: - rotation issue with props (already mentioned in this forum). Axis X and Z turn out the same when Y is rotated 90 degrees. Figures do not have this problem. Probably the skeleton system of poser is at the root of the problem. - Camera focus is at 25 degrees as a default. This gives too much distortion to my liking. I am more happy with 60 degrees. I want to be able to set this as a general default. - Poser renderer can not handle sharp corners (also mentioned as a thread here) - Knees and elbows get distorted far too quickly. But as stated, I love it ;-D

  • Camera focus is at 25 degrees as a default. This gives too much distortion to my liking. I am more happy with 60 degrees. I want to be able to set this as a general default. Okay, if I am reading this right, you can do this: Set your cameras (I mostly use the main and the face so I only set these two) as you want them. I also prefer to open to an empty scene so I delete all figures, and set lights as I want to be default. Now once you have the default settings you want, go to Edit|General Preferences In window box select Launch to Preferred State | Use Previous State - Next click on Set Preferred State and then Okay. Now when you close and run Poser again or open a new scene, it will default to these (camera, light, etc.) settings.

Sorry for the double posting ...

  • "insufficient disk space to render at current resolution" (which is BS!) - preferred state not staying in Poser 4.03 no matter what I do - no proper undo - changing the light preset is a pain if you try to switch something with spotlights into something with infinite lights... well the light presets are pain in general.

Okay, don't know if this will help on the insufficient disk space prob or not, but it did for me. I run Poser on Win2k in a seperate partition than my pagefile. I added a pagefile to the same partition I have Poser installed and now I do not get this error. From what I have been told, Poser expects to find the swap/page file in the same drive/partition as Poser. Can not say if this is true or not, only that it seemed to work making it so.

knock on wood I haven't had the error since I got my new hard drive (well okay, it's been only four days so far...) and I'm hoping I got rid of it for good :) If I didn't, I'll definitely try what you suggested :)

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. :o)

Thanks, shadownet! I tried it out and it really works! Also I need to correct something. I used "camera focus" but what I meant was "focal length" which is expressed in mm and not in degrees. Anyway it did not stop you from giving me excellent advice. I will try to be more accurate in future.

Not a prob. We all get a bit tongue tied - or finger tied as in the case of my typing. For many here, English is not their first or even second language so most of us try to read and understand the intent not the words. There are, occasionally, a few who seem to enjoy making issue out of words rather than trying to understand meaning, but by and far most do not. :O}

I share some of the same frustrations that are already listed above. I also hate the way the Morph Dials are arranged. They don't make any sense to me. I think a strict alphabetical order listing would make more sense. I could find things easier. Oh, and how about consistency? If you're dealing with the mouth morphs, it seems most morphs begin with the word mouth. I was looking for an open mouth morph, in the listings that begin with the word mouth. I couldn't find one. Then I found it listed under "Open Mouth?!" HUH?! Ron

These things fustraite me too. One thing is that there really are no prereferences- 2 I think. I've mentioned before that hate how the side views all zoom to the center of the scene. Not the thing I'm concerned with. I find it impossable to manuver. Some programs have a key you can hit to frame the selected object. So I spend alot of my time trying to find stuff.
