.. *laughing* no I can't give any prices... but I'll give you a couple of clues. The picture was taken here, in St. Augustine, FL. THat is definately a clue as to what thing is *grin* So, appart from being a texture picture... what IS this?? ;) Britt

PunkClown ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 9:21 AM

Well, it's obviously a ladle-thingy with your typical everyday stone water/fluid receptacle type thingy for the purpose of...ummmm ladling water out of...thingy...isn't it???? :-)>

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 9:51 AM

nope... g youre somewhat close.... but...

Rork1973 ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 9:54 AM

It's a bowl to make rat-soup. The small stone is used to knock the rat dead. Or, it also reminds me of an ex-girlfriend. She was made of the same kind of material ;)

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 9:56 AM

ewww... Rork! lol she was rusty, green, slimy... ewww!!! Hmm... come to think of it, - there might have landed some rats in there, - but not intentionally. So, - nope, - you're not correct! Britt

Slynky ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 10:37 AM

ITS A TOILET! complete with scooper

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 10:50 AM

What kind of toilets do you suppose we have here in St. Augustine. lol

starshuffler ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 10:53 AM

Is it something used by a smith? Looks like the ladle is built to handle hot melted metals or something like that. Stone bowl used to hold chemical or water to dip metal in for cooling? Of course, I'm just guessing hehe

starshuffler ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 10:55 AM

Well, Brit, now it's purty obvious what kind Slynk uses. X-D

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 10:59 AM

lol Not sure I'd like more detailed descriptions from Slynky!! But no... this has nothing to do with smiths. :)

starshuffler ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 11:01 AM

Font for holy water?

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 11:08 AM

not a bad guess. it HAS something to do with water... but it's not holy, - and it's actually not a font.

PhrankPower ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 12:00 PM

Its a torture device. It holds hot water or oil, and they bring in people upside down and use the scoop to pour it down their nose. But maybe not. The rock doesnt make sense because if you can create all that ironwork, why would you use a crude rock as a tool? Perhaps its a bathroom sink. But I still dont understand the rock.

bevchiron ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 12:40 PM

It's an antique washing machine! Well, we're running out of water options ; D

Was it once in a Sauna?

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 12:55 PM

file_278831.jpg

Phrank... *lol* well the Spaniards, - who invented this thing were inquisadores :) But they didn't use this for torture. As I said, St. Augustine is a clue, - as is the Spaniards who established the city more than 400 years ago. Alpha.. lol... nope! Actually, - the stone on top of it doesn't actually "do" anything. It was put there as an example of the material coquina, that was used to build most of the buildings here in these days. Coquina is actually compressed seashells and sand, - and is still found in large quantities here. This sample is from one of the walls on the fort. Britt

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 1:00 PM

bevciron I'm going to give you 1 point (or maybe a half one). You're definately the closest one. and PunkClown!!! We're in Florida. what on earth would we want a sauna for!!?? LOL I'll give it a little more time... another clue would be SAND Britt

dbyrd ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 1:08 PM

Never saw one of those when I was in St.Augustine(School at the Fire College). I would guess that it was a lead smelt of some sort, but I did not see any burn marks at the base.

bevchiron ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 1:17 PM

Sand & 1/2 a washing machine, now I'm confused ; ) all I can think of is scrubbing something! (Nice texture pic.) Bev

Maybe the spaniards thought they could wash brown people white with sand???

nplus ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 2:33 PM

....hmmm Spanish, Florida, Water..........hmmm Fountain of Youth.

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 2:34 PM

laughing You guys are much more creative than the old Spaniards! Let's see... Where to start. Yeah... The water here in FL is pretty good, - and there is a lot of it, - underneath all the sand. (Florida is SANDY and flat for those of you who haven't been here). So they dug a lot of wells, - but the water must have been pretty awful to drink, - because it was so full of sand. The stone container (the green thingy) was stone carried on Spanish ships as ballast. Naturally they had them all around here in abundance, because they weren't carried back to Spain. Some creative guy/guyette must have poured some water in one of them, - and discovered that the stone was actually "leak". So, - with this new invention, - they could FILTER the water after getting it up from the well. :) Make sense?? Britt

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 4:43 PM

;) See my response.. it's a waterfilter the sand remains in the stone, - while the CLEAN water drips through the stone and down to a bucket they had under it. I think my tap water is MUCH easier! g Britt

bsteph2069 ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 6:30 PM

Oh I thought it was a mini mortar and pestle! Take the sand and grind it up and all you days you'll have good luck. But why is it so small. I figure make it really bit. Actually why is the thing on land you should have freshwater right. I'm so confused. I think you are trying to deceive us. It's really a colledge pledge sacrifical bowel. One brings the victim ( er. pledge ) next to the bowel then konks them on the head with the ladel, while they are dazed they are commanded to drink from the bowel, if they survive they are now a member of the frat-sorotity. JordyArt ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 7:03 PM

NOT FAIR!!!!!! You gave the answer before I had my turn!!! I was pretty damn close too - we have a lot of limestone here which is also porous - hence I've heard of similar items before, but not for sand, just to give purer water..... damn and blast!! (",)

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 8:20 PM

lol You guys are nuts! ;) And I love the bunch of ya! OK... now I have to go work on my textures! I think I've got'em locally! ;) Britt

brittmccary ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2002 at 8:23 PM

lol Just saw nplus' response... yup... we do have the fountain of youth here... g but that thing ain't it. At least I haven't seen many of the elderly population trying to get a sneak bath in that thingy. g Britt

Syyd ( ) posted Tue, 26 February 2002 at 9:25 AM

Britt, Im embarrassed, I stared and stared at it, and thought it was the same thing Slynky thought...A toilet. Gives creedence to the idea of "pooper scooper", and I was trying to think of St. Augustine and torturing himself too...wow a water filter!
