Subject: Thank You, Renderosity, You're Great!!!!

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 12:15 AM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 4:53 AM

After some serious soul searching and thought, I've decided that I'll stick with this site. I had a bad week last week, lots of stress at work, and when some of the things that were said on the other site came up, I found myself feeling upset enough to just give all of this up. I commend PANdaRUS for his effort to try to put an end to the animosity and name-calling. Kudos, Pan, for giving it your all and trying to help. That's what true membership should be. I hate to say anything negative about anyone on the other site or anywhere else, for that matter, but I do see a lot more fairness and maturity here in Renderosity. I posted a somewhat angry post a few days ago on both sites. The result was that the administrators of the other site immediately deleted it; my post here was not deleted. Apparently, over there, members don't have the right to an opinion or to speak their mind. Their immediate solution to a post that speaks a truth about them is to stifle it and destroy it as soon as possible. If they don't delete it, they post a rude reply. I have not seen that happening here. I also have to commend Jack for being fair and willing to allow everyone to speak what they think without becoming hypersensitive and defensive. Thank you for a great forum, Renderosity! I'll be continuing to visit your site because you show real respect to your members. Melanie

I don't know how anyone can stand the format of the other sight, let alone the politics. Jack's got a real nice set up here. It's rare to find something so professional yet so familial. Not only does there seem to be a complete lack of politicing here, but I've never even seen a NEED for that kind of behaviour. Everyone here is free to do their thing and as we all set out to do that, we somehow most often fill the needs of others. In fact, Renderosity just might be a model utopian society. hmmmm Darth_Logice

Thanks Everyone, we try to do our best, sometimes we aren't perfect and make mistakes, we know it and would be foolish of us to try and make people believe that we didn't. In the same regard, we know that no one is perfect and makes mistakes from time to time and rather than bash them for them, we allow people to comment, add friendly advice. The one thing that stands out the most to me here is the family atmosphere that we have here. If someone is feeling a little down, there is always someone there to help them up. And like brothers and sisters that may argue, there are people here who argue with each other, but usually make up in a matter of a day or so. It is the community that works together that sets this place above any other that I have been to, it is all of you that makes this forum what it is. I am only a small part of it, whereas, the community is the WHOLE! Melanie, I was talking to someone online last night and told them that I was really hurt to see you leave. And it did hurt, I may not know you personally, I have never talked to you, but you are a piece of the puzzle that makes this place what it is. I am very happy that you have returned and will be staying!! I just wish to thank everyone for sticking around as we change things to make things better for everyone. It is important for any family (blood related or not)to stick together durning the good and the bad times. As this year progresses, I can assure you we will have some rough road ahead of us. All I ask is that you all stick together and support each other and your artwork as we go through those times!! Thank you everyone!! Jack

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 7:43 AM

Jack, this is what makes this forum above the other. There's more support from everyone, administrators and members alike. The people who run the others are human like anyone else, but they don't put the members above themselves. You do. You don't dwell on the negative like they do. This is why I've chosen to stay with you and not bother with the other site. If they could be more forgiving and understanding of other people, I would be more supportive of them, but I don't feel the kinship to them as I do with you and this site. Thanks for being the best! Melanie

picnic ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 8:07 AM

There are lots of good things about this site-many being the things noted above. The other is that everyone seems tolerant of various states of experience and levels of knowledge and they are willing to help pull some of us along (sometimes kicking and screaming LOL). I also appreciate the non-censorship. Altho' I don't personally like some things, I will fight for everyone's right to post as they choose--both images and opinions. Policing has not seemed to be necessary-peer pressure is usually sufficient if threads get out of hand--and deletion is never an option IMO. Thanks everyone--staff and community. (BTW, I expect you to make some mistakes S--but, thank goodness, youall are willing to admit them too--well--all but Legume LOLOL--now, if I can't pick on him, then it just isn't any fun). Diane B

I'm new here, so you can do what you will with my opinion. I'm one of the most anal people I know. Before I purchased Poser 4 I spent months researching it (reviews..etc). What got me to buy the 'durned thing was you guys. I was watching this forum for about a month and a half before I went out and got Poser 4, and all I know is that I've never seen such a group of talented and creative people who could pull together like you guys do. That's why I bought Poser. Metacreations doesn't offer 1/100 of the support and versitility you guys have given their product, and I can only hope that whoever buys the rights to poser realizes this. You folks do amazing work and I hope to be able to contribute to it as I learn more from all of you. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Welcome back, Melanie! None of us likes it when a member of our family feels the need to leave, but I think Jack takes it to heart more than anyone. We may be 10,000 strong, but he cares about each and every one of us as an individual and it is obvious. His respect shows...in his personal comments, in the way he runs this site and in the people he has chosen to work with him! That's what drew me back to this site and that's what keeps me here. I'm not a group joiner, but because this atmosphere has attracted the kind of people it has, I've found a whole new group of friends I hold very dear. Besides, one of these days, Legume is going to have to admit to a mistake. And I want to be here when that happens! LOL Diane

WarriorDL ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 4:58 PM

I really hate to be a party pooper, but all of this is a bunch of bull that serves to continue the battle. Jack himself is the one that started the last fiasco by being ignorant (I'm saying that as in he was unaware of the way he could have opened the file) about the file he downloaded. The other forum had nothing to do with it. Jack downloaded the file from their membership, not here. DD had it written in the readme file what it was. I've said it before and I'll say it again- It's done. Overwith. Let it friggin' die already! Talk about beating a dead horse!

WarriorDL ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 5:49 PM

This site.. that site... who gives a flying damn other than the admins of both? NEITHER matter! It's the PEOPLE at both that matter. Put very simply- Stop dissing each other. It really is easy- Bite your tongue. Don't respond to them. Toss out an olive branch. I post at both. For the most part, I ignore the comments and crap that have happened, because to simply put something again, the friggin' matter could have been handled a lot better and with MORE class! Why am I paying attention now? Because this crap is affecting the USERS of the sites. The ones that matter. Melanie herself was ready to call it quits over this type of trash. Is that what both sites friggin' want? To quote someone- "Know your role and keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything constructive to say!" Admins should follow that creed more than anyone else. I have nothing against Jack or anyone here. I have nothing against Grey or anyone there. I do have something against people thinking they are better than the next person, and this thread is saying just that. Me and over 2/3rds of the population on both sides couldn't give a flying damn about why one doesn't like the other. This is my last post on this. I know it won't end. Someone always has to have the last biting word, so go for it.

Legume ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 6:11 PM

Nope. Allie won't get the next word in. I will, instead. Warrior, this thread was a right nice thread where folks were merely expressing their opinions, and quite civilly, I might add. It was downright NICE. It was YOU who brought the negativity into this thread. Folks were merely saying how much they like coming to this site. If they like this site better than the PFO, they are entitled to their opinion. You don't see me going to the PFO and starting trouble when someone thanks THEM for their site. To insinuate that saying "I like it better here" is in some way fighting words is plain stupid. People like it better here because we go out of our way to make sure that this site is for the people who use it. We're not here for the PFO, and we have nothing to do with the PFO. We're here for the PEOPLE WHO USE THIS SITE, and for all I care, the PFO can live forever or die tomorrow. It has nothing to do with us. Jack's post about the ZIP file was legit. It was NOT an attack on the PFO, it was a warning that DD's ZIP contained files that would change Poser's weblinks. He posted it for the benefit of the people who use this site, and may wish to KEEP that weblink pointing HERE.

Legume ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 6:15 PM

The fact is, I'm damn proud to be affiliated with this site, and I DO think we're better than them. Is there something wrong with being proud of success? No. We've earned that pride, and we enjoy the loyalty of our membership because we treat them as WE would like to be treated. The Golden Rule.

Legume ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 6:17 PM

Finally, Warrior, I, as others before me repeat the words of Pandarus to YOU: STOP THE WAR!

WarriorDL ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 6:31 PM

Ok. I lied. I'm posting on this thread again. I AM trying to end the war, Legume. Thanking someone is good. It's great. I have no problem with that. It's the insults tossed in I have a problem with that can totally ruin a simple thank you. Darth- "I don't know how anyone can stand the format of the other sight, let alone the politics." That kind of comment right there is what ruin a perfectly good thread. That kind of comment is what I was talking about. Did I bring negativity into this thread? Or was it already there? I think the latter. You just can't see it for some reason. BTW, did I slam anyone the way you just did me? I think not. I posted what is happening before my very eyes. What you just did was the opposite of what many say isn't present at this site. BTW, posts/threads not deleted here? That is to laugh. During the PFO break up, I had posted a few questions regaring the future of HELP on this site. It got deleted. I posted it again. It got deleted. My posts from then were NOT a part of the slamming eeach other from the two groups. It was LEGIT questions regarding where the help would come from.

JeffH ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 6:36 PM

Nothing gets deleted it just ends up being sent to the News forum....

Legume ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 6:47 PM

Exactly how did I slam you? Further, you stated that during the PFO breakup you had messages deleted. When that was going on, neither Jack Kammerer nor Dark Souls Images were RUNNING this site. Edgenet was. We came later. If you have some beef about that, take it up with them. We can't be blamed for the sins of our predecessors.

edarsenal ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 7:02 PM

hey DL, just so you know... you are more than welcome to bitch, critique, speak up, speak out, as you seem fit. Such is the place of a Forum. To speak one's mind and to discuss and debate. i DO see the remarks. i ALSO see the ones which speak highly of the Team, members and PFO in general. I see them all. Everyone. EVERY ONE may speak good OR ill. And all or none may respond or ignore it, for good or ill. ed

picnic ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 7:04 PM

I think right there is probably some of the problem and is the misconception that has led to this whole thing. LOTS of people are unaware that youall (Dark Souls, Jack and the gang) came AFTER the breakup with Edgenet and sort of picked up the pieces and bought the software--sort of inheriting all the problems and the fallout too (altho' I understand you had planned a new site previous to this that was to be more 'liberal' and things just fell out differently). I, like Pandarus, just happened to be online the night it all happened and saw the posts, the switchover, etc. If I hadn't, I might not have been totally aware of what was what either. It was a very strange event, may I add (PFO evidently had planned the move--and did it sort of 'secretly' and late at night after an announcement in a chat that evening. At the time, I, too, was sort of 'with' the other group, but when the animosity turned on the group (Jack, et.al) that bought the software and didn't distinguish between them and what happened with Edgenet (and even there I'm not sure of the whole thing now--and admit I don't know the behind the scenes stuff) and the posts got really 'un' nice (I remember 2 in particular--one with references to slugs), I decided that I just didn't feel the same about that group. Though I still check it out, I don't post and try very hard not to read some of the more irritating posts--altho', like a car wreck, sometimes its hard not to look at them S. Diane B

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2000 at 8:49 PM

Warrior-- My comments are the sole property of ME and do not reflect ANYONE ELSE here at Renderosity. I don't like the PFO format. Is that negative? No. It's a fact. It's a fact that it's my opinion. It is no more negative than to say "My computer isn't fast enough, I'd really like the Athalon 750." Furthermore, you singled me out and cited my one reference based on my personal fact and called the whole thread negative. Looks like my PC is not the only thing needing an upgrade here....Nice try though, keep trying! -Darth "Putting the Logic back into Logice" Logice

WarriorDL ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2000 at 12:14 AM

Yes, it gets moved, without a notice L Picnic, thank you for what you said. It did clear something up, regarding how much heat they get because of Edgenet. This is a big reason I attempted to stay out of it. But this thing with DD's file and Jack- It didn't violate any privacy. No private information was taken. No evil intent was meant on DD's part as the file was on his site with the readme in it. Like I said before, it was Jack's not knowing he could read the readme before hand that caused his problem, not DD or the PFO. Yet I saw the thread after Jack posted it. People got all riled up (and many did point out how to check to files, etc) and many blamed the PFO. This kind of stuff has just got to stop. Period. This is the type of stuff I refer to. The way someone says something, like Darht there, or Jack in just the title of that thread. Just the title alone came off as a slam, not a warning about what was in the file. And what came afterwards is best left alone. Darth, :o) your comment DID uin a perfectly good thread. Now mine have as well. I'm sorry about it, but I needed to get it off my chest. It bugs the hell out of me when someone mis-represents something like Jack did in his thread. For the most part, the staff here DO do a good job. But all I am saying is the admins need to be more careful about what they say, and how they say it. Sorry if you can't understand that. If you can, good.

WarriorDL ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2000 at 12:15 AM

Hey Warrior.... Love ya bud!! :o) Hell, I love all of you!! Words sting and sometimes can wound and cause pain. Sometimes I feel that pain more than I should. Yeah, I've said it before and will say it again, maybe I didn't state things the best in that post. Do I feel I was wrong in my statements, no. Did I wish it to become an attack on the PFO. HELL NO! I did (and still do) feel that it was an invasion of privacy. Why? Because if I was to look into your bedroom window, from outside your house and watch you or a member of your family getting changed or just watching television, the law calls that an Invasion of your Privacy. I didn't have to take anything from your house to make it such, it just is. Yes, I also said this, and will again, perhaps things could have been done differently. Would it have avoided all of this? No. Some people will find whatever reason they can to get up in arms and "go to War". My honest thoughts on all of this is this... I didn't want a "war" with anyone. It happened, regardless. Do I publically bash people? No, I'd like to think I haven't. Though it may seem as I had, but was it my intention to do so? No. I think allot of people read things, knowing the tension of the owners of both places, and read into what either of them writes and assumes that it is an attack and then jump in and try and rally their support. Nothing really wrong with showing support, just in the presentation of it. --continued--

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2000 at 12:12 PM

It is plain to see by all of the people here and the way they share with each other that this forum is appreciated, I don't need credit for it, it is very nice to hear, but I don't need it. But not hearing it wouldn't keep me from trying to make this place larger and better, I am just trying to do my part, same as everyone else here. Bottom line: How to stop all of the crap that people don't want focused on? Simple... You can agree with someone and with the things that they do, but you don't have to bash the person you disagree with in the next breath, in doing so it would do allot to ease the tension and hopefully do allot to end this subject. Jack

WarriorDL ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2000 at 12:30 PM

Jack, as I've said before- I've nothing against you at all. Nothing. :o) Let's look at this from a different angle though, as this is the same thing that happened: A file replacement/overwritten. Suppose someone creates an awful piece of new posable/conformable clothing, or even a combined figure. Hell, we'll use one of my Trek ones as an example L I create the figure, then modify a cr2 for it. However, I forget to change the file name! and save the file. I just unknowingly overwrote one of my cr2 files. Now, I zip up the files needed for the figure, including this cr2 file that has an original cr2 files name. I upload them for download. No explanation is given that this file has the same name. Someone downloads the file, and the new file overwrites their old one. (this right here is exactly what happened to you, yes?) Did I invade their privacy? No. Did I make a human error? Yes. Does a person posting the found error need to title a thread "Invasion of Privacy!" and treat it as such? No. Because it's not. 1. A person could e-mail me about it, explaining what happened, and I could correct the problem in the zip itself and post myself the correction/problem. 2. A person could post that there was the error and treat it as such- It was an error, but it was not a malicious "invasion of privacy". This is what I am talking about when I say the admins, and especially admins, just need to choose words more carefully. Otherwise, people getriled up, as did happen.

WarriorDL ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2000 at 12:31 PM

That's all I'm saying. If worded better, these war attacks on either side would either stop (doubtful. Human nature) or cut down drastically. I fully appreaciate all you've said and done. Don't get me wrong. I hate this bashing crap as much as you. I want to see a friendly community. But being the owner/admin/etc, much more care in wording has to be taken. A little background on where I get off saying this- I run (though don't own) the SF-A Forums. I know the deal with running something like this :o)

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2000 at 1:02 PM

Warrior, Personally, you answered your own question. Because you didn't "intentionally" overwrite the .CR2 Be that as it may, the best way to end this topic, since peoples opinions are set, is to let it go. Move on to a new topic. Jack

I have friends at both places- I just dearly hate to lose friends, especially over some silly crap that I didn't even have anything to do with in the first place! Jack, there was nothing wrong with your post. What I saw though, was that some person or persons felt the need to immediately turn it into some damned conspiracy by the PFO to change settings on everyone's computer! How absolutely and utterly absurd. HEY, THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY BY EITHER FORUM. IF THERE WERE, I WOULD KNOW BECAUSE I AM THE MOST PARANOID PERSON I KNOW. Well, enuff politics. I'm gonna go play with some nekkid Posettes...

Legume ( ) posted Thu, 13 January 2000 at 9:18 PM

Ok, I posted this in the complaint forum, and because it fits I'm gonna repost it here: The idea of a community of artists is kind of funny. Some people claim that conflict is tearing it apart, but in fact, conflict is part of ANY community. I live in a quiet suburb of Philadelphia. About 300 feet from my house, there's a small Rancher-style house where people scream and cuss and rev their car motors, a place where the three teen sons of the owner get in loud fights with their girlfriends. Now I COULD just go over and spray their house with gunfire, but instead I just ignore them. I have a thirty year mortgage, and those sons will be grown up and gone in five. My point is, that any community will have two constants: conflict and change. It will also have a variable; growth. If a community doesn't grow, it dies. The inhabitants grow old and pass on, or people just up and leave, bored with the stagnation. The community here is DYNAMIC, constantly in motion, evolving, growing, and yes, sometimes squabbling with the redneck neighbors with the abandoned car in their driveway. There is diversity here, and with diversity, there are always undesirable elements. There'll always be a village idiot, a town drunk, some nasty asshole trying to bed your mate. There'll be the punk that spraypaints "FUCK" on the church door. There will be friendly people who welcome the black family or the gay couple who just moved in next door, and and there will be bigoted people who hate faggots and niggers. There will be rich people who contribute greatly, poor people who are grateful for the assistance, and lazy people who are looking for a handout. This artistic community has MANY things in common with any other community, but it especially shares THIS trait; it is a community of PEOPLE, and people are NOT perfect. When folks here complain about conflict, they'd do well to remember that.
