Does anybody know a URL where I can download grayscale maps to create terrains? thanx

Not offhand, I don't but you can make your own and import them into Vue in the terrain editor. Or just use Vue's built-in terrain editor algorithms. You might try the USGS website, but I think that's mostly DEM files there.

I've just tried World Machine, and I can join all the bits together to make lovely networks, but despite setting output to 1024 by 1024 I got a little thin strip of a bitmap about 20 by 300. Looks like it may be interesting when it works though. Adrian.

I'm wondering how to export ? Cannot see any button orwhatever for it. But I have tried with an existing fole, made a screenshot and imported it then into Vue. This works fine and the resolution is not a problem, as we can do this in Vue. Guitta

Cool deal, zoon. I couldn't figure out how to save either, but I did at least create a decent terrain and then just took a screen capture to get the height map. Well, it wasn't great...kinda weird, really, but much different than anything I've ever gotten out of Vue. Thanks for the info.

Guitta send me an email saying that some of you were interested in World Machine, my terrain generation tool. I just wanted to drop by and say that I've opened up a user's group for it on yahoo groups, to help people figure out how to use its (admittedly sometimes confusing!) interface and to get nice results.

I'd encourage any of you who are interested in the program to come on over and ask questions, etc, that you have there, to keep all the resources in one place.

Well, I can't sign up, because I have no idea where I put all my Yahoo user info. I still can receive and send emails to the Vue list, because they come to my regular email, but I haven't been able to log into the page itself in over a year. And trying to reclaim my info is a no-go because apparently I fibbed a little when I was asked for some personally recognizable information.... Guess I'm gonna have to get a Hotmail acount....

Mike, I have signed it very easy without doing any thing special. Just went to the page and logged in with my Vue d'Esprit user name and password. That's all. They did not ask me any thing more. Guitta

Well that's the thing, Guitta. I have long since lost my Yahoo Groups password, and I can't retrieve it, either. Plus when I try to sign up with my email address and a new user name/password, it tells me I'm already a member. Well, I know that, but otherwise there is no way. I'm just simply going to have to create a separate account with a separate email address.

Hey Mike, you can still join another YahooGroups e-mail lists. Just use the same e-mail address and send a blank e-mail to listname**-subscribe@yahoogroups.com** The "listname" should match the name of the list you want to join, in this case: worldmachine-subscribe@yahoogroups.com You'll get a return mail from Yahoo asking to confirm. Reply to that, and you're subscribed. :)

There is a button "PAsswors lookup", they send it to you

Hey thanks Varian, I'll try that. :) Guitta, yes, they could send me a password. You give them your email adress but you also have to answer a few other questions as well, such as your birthdate, zip code, etc. And apparently I didn't tell them the true info when I signed up. ;)

I'm having major problems saving. I've tried what others said works, but no go. Absolutely nothing saves 8-(. Oh well, such is life sometimes.

Mike, I did not tell the trues either:-). Yahoo, Lycos and such "firms" will never get my true address or my true birthdate, zip and so on. What for? they would not send me any gift? But I write down where I said what (LOL). I understand you did not write down your "lies". Jcleaver, Stephen will answer to all your questions and explain at the list he created at Yahoo:-).
