Subject: Something I'm Working On

This is a montage of 3 photos I took. I'm not sure if this works or not....so I'm looking for honest opinions. Is it too dark, to busy? Also can I put this in the photo gallery or has it been to warped to qualify as a photo? The background is a close up of a monument in a cemetery and the left piece is the top portion of the same monument. The clock is from the antique shop I visited. While I was in the cemetery on Thursday I was stopped by a security guard who told me I could not photograph the monuments! I was unaware of this....and he said it was to protect the privacy of the families. I may sound insensitive but since most of the headstones are from people who have been dead for close to 200 years I can't understand this. It's not like I'm taking pictures of freshly dug graves, and I'm not interested in new headstones anyway. Never heard of such a thing before, so I was a little upset, I managed to get a few shots off before I left.

What did you set that clock layer to ? It looks a bit faded....can you show this pic with the clock done a bit stronger perhaps ? (Am curious what kind of effect it'll have). Well, love it..keep working on it =)

I would agree with Rork, looks like a cool clock. What is the writing? Perhaps a larger post will allow us to read it. Although it's not necessary, it would help us on the feeling you're going after. Next time tell the guard your great grandparents are there.

This has a nice feeling to it, I like the way the clock & text are, the whole right side works for me but I think it needs to either contrast more or less with the left side, doesn't seem to be a definite focal point yet, if that makes sense!

This is a marvellously mysterious image for me, I like the textures and the colour and the merging of clock, flowers and marble. I'm not sure as to whether the clock should be more visible or not, the way it is at the moment, with the text on the right side as well, seems to balance the purely visual imagery of the left side. I like it whatever! :-)>

Thanks for the input guys.....I'm still not sure if I like this or not...I'll try the clock opacity and see how it looks. This may just end up in the trash bin. I've been trying to improve my Photoshop skills...I've only had this book for about 1 year now...and I'm just starting to go through it.....so I've been playing around with this stuff.

Just out of curiosity Michelle, which book have you got

Michelle A. ( ) posted Sat, 02 March 2002 at 10:34 PM

It's called The Photoshop 5/5.5 WoW Book by Linnea Dayton & Jack Davis.... a really great book actually, but I upgraded to version 6.0 a few months ago and I'm just now getting around to studying the book. Luckily all the stuff still applies.

I like it, lovely tone, but I agree about the clock.... We could do with some security for our cemetaries, vandalism is a little bit of a problem. I've got to admit, no-ones yet asked me NOT to photograph somewhere. Not verbally anyways, I've had a few really nasty looks - but they don't hurt, and I always smile back politely! (",)
