Well, I'm still modeling objects for this month's challenge. This is a candle I whipped up entirely in Rhino, including the flame. I was surprised how well the flame itself turned out, considering it's a UV mapped mesh and not a Vue primitive, with a volumetric material applied to it. Actually, the inner part is a copy of the outer, but smaller with a separate volume material. Still, it would need postwork to look more real. Flames are very difficult.

Wow your flame is really nice. I like the wax dripping off the edge of the candle. Sharen

I like this flame ! Maybe add a mesh with a black end(because burned) ? Yves

Very realistic candle there Mike... And yeah, the flame is very impressive... :)

Thanks Paul. I did however discover something rather bad. The material I used for the flame woon't show up in dim light! Not a good characterisic for a flame, I would say. ;) So in the end I just had to use point lights with lens flare. sigh

Crank up the ambience on that material, Mike. You can go 300% or even 1000%, depending on what's needed for the scene. :)

Yeah, tried that. Tried "luminous and glow, too. In the end, in my VC pic in the gallery, the point light gave the best results of all. Everything else looked "plastic".

In the end, whatever works is the best way to go. :)
