Subject: sorry.... another eyelash question

juju-b ( ) posted Mon, 04 March 2002 at 6:13 PM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 11:13 PM

I am following ronknights tut on eyelash. I load the jpg for eyelash and follow the correct settings. After I load I can see the dots (?) that are suppose to be the eyelashes, but when I render, there are no eyelashes. Could it be the template for my eyelash? I downloaded vicky template and colored in the eyelashes with black and saved as a jpg. This is what I loaded. Your help is appreciated Thanks juju-b

Did you load the coloured template as a transparency map, rather than a texture map? With transparency maps, black is transparent. The eyelashes would be invisible.

If you don't have any, you can find lash transmaps for Victoria here in Free Stuff.

Nope, loaded as texture. Will try this. Thanks

Can you please give me directions on using these trans-map lashes. I loaded them in transparency map and loaded the head.jpg in the texture map. Still no lashes when rendering. AARRGGHHH!

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 04 March 2002 at 7:20 PM

Step 1: select Victoria.

Step 2: Go to the Materials panel (CTRL-U), and select Eyelashes (not EyeLashes) from the Material pulldown menu.

Step 3: Set the Transparency Min and Transparency Max sliders to 100%.

Step 4: Set the Transparency Falloff slider to 0.00.

Step 5: Load a texture map if you wish, or just use the Object Color button to determine the color of the eyelashes.

Step 6: Load a Victoria eyelash transparency map. Make sure it's made for Victoria. Other characters' eyelash transmaps won't work, because they're at different positions on the map. On the transmap, the lashes should be white, surrounded by black.

Step 7: Click OK, scream once for luck, then try rendering the image.

If the Poser demons have been appeased, Victoria should now have eyelashes.

I tried and tried and not until I re-read eyelashes not EyeLashes did it work. Thanks so much for that help. I was picking the wrong eyelashes! No one has ever said that before. So next question.... what are the EyeLashes for? Thanks again I thought I was going to go crazy until I got this right juju-b

Ron, I find your sarcastic and patronizing remarks here, uncalled for and boorish. Your attitude (read: "delusions") of intellectual superiority and self importance are equally unamusing. juju-b, I'm also rather curious as to why there are two sets of eyelash materials. Only one set shows up in the materials menu of the grouping tool, but two sets show up in the materials editor. Only the topmost eyelashes material (in the materials editor) actually applies a material (that I can tell)

Momcat: when I went through the Vickie mesh and remapped the eye-lashes for the 'no-float lashes' (I use in my new characters, also available in free stuff) I remapped all 8 lashes and all eight render, so you can get a better since of depth. I believe the original(DAZ3D's) intension was for them to use different maps, but I have not been very successful with standard Vic, in doing so.

Ron, She meant she wanted to know what the "EyeLashes" setting was for as opposed to the "Eyelashes"(notice the difference in the capital and non capitalized "L" in the spelling), since, though i do not have her, my understanding is that Vicky has two settings in the material editor for this part of her face. You guys are right. I wanted to know what the second eyelash setting was for. I was practically pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my eyelashes were not showing up until I was told by Little Dragon to choose the first eyelash. I was just wondering what the second one was for. juju-b

no problem. that's what we're all here for. well, I mean that's what YOU guys are here for. For us newbies with lots of questions. Thanks for your help :-) ju

Momcat misunderstood what you were saying, Ron, just as You misunderstood what Juju-b was saying. i wouldn't think a few misunderstandings should cause you to not want to help those who are new .. smile. At least i hope not. Namaste, odyssey

Ron, My statement to you had nothing to do with your tutorial, but with your response to juju-b. If I have misinterpreted your statement concerning juju-b's curiosity about the the eyelashes, then I do apologize. It looked to me as if you were belittling her intelligence.

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 12:15 PM

I have apologized for any misinterpretation. That's as far as I'm going to go here. I am going to follow the advice my mother gave me a long time ago, and should have followed here today. I have nothing nice to say right now, and much better things to do.

designodyssey ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 1:15 PM

Ron, Ron, Ron .. please. It really "doesnt" have anything to do with the tutorial. What momcat's comments were in regards to was the post you made when Juju-b asked what EyeLashes were for. When you spoke about what actual eyelashes were for and yes that could be construed as condescending if one assumes you knew what juju-b is asking about to begin with. You thought she was asking what eyelashes in general were for and momcat thought you were being obtuse. You both misunderstood and momcat apologized. i really don't understand what all the fuss is about. If you had understood there were two eyelash places in the materials, then you would have understood juju-b's query. And momcat assumed you 'did' know about them since you wrote a tutorial about them. If you had indeed known about both or had seen the difference in spelling and understood there were both then this topic would have been concluded a while ago. Please .. you both made genuine mistakes and momcat apologized for her part in it. Does it have to go any farther than that?

Ron, I believe you should take some time to be with your family, and stop with this. Regardless, of who was at fault, or who hurt who. If you are surrounded buy family members who are hurting, your thoughts and actions should be directed there. (Not an attack, just some humble advise)

juju-b ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2002 at 9:06 PM

ronknights, I am sorry if I started something. The reason that I started with your tutorial is because I LIKED IT! I hope that you didn't think that I was putting down your tutorial because I am a newbie and I am just looking for all the help that I can get. I have looked through your tuts and I can say they are very easy to understand and I love when you include a graphic of the settings. I just wanted to say thanks and I hope that you don't leave. juju-b
