Subject: What is the best way to Organize Textures.

I updated my system to XP Pro and I am starting to reinstall all the software for clean system. I want to organize my textures so I can go notes from Artists...But I don't want to get so lost that I can't find anything anymore like a texture for vicky. Any ideas from massive Free Stuff collectors and buyers.

It's taken some trial and error, but I've adopted a system of multiple runtime folders, each dedicated to a particular project. I keep all but the active one in a folder outside the application, then I switch off as needed. Beyond that, for my everyday RunTime, I have a folder within Textures called "New textures" and within that I have a series of sub folders for, first, Mike, Vicky, et al, then within those, clothing and body textures for each, with subcategories as needed. It keeps everything very clean.

I do the same as VirtualSite and I rename all stuff in the libary like: Runtime/libary/Faces/"name of autor"_Facexxx.

Do subfolders work with the Library selection menus? Can you create a "drill-down" menu from with the Poser interface?

I found my textures folder had too much in it, this caused an annoying effect of auto scrolling to the end by itself while searching. I have created a desktop folder outside of Poser containing misc texture folders that I have downloaded and another for morphs. Works great, I check out the folders and memorise what's needed, then load from the desktop folder when setting up for rendering. The other advantage is avoiding the 300 folders capacity within the program.

Thornod: since textures aren't part of the Poser interface, it doesn't matter how many levels you need to go to access them. It's all done through selection in the materials window. The exception would be MAT files, which would have to be treated differently.

VirtualSite: Maybe textures was not the jist of my question, but organization. Lets use characters/prop/poses. How can these be better managed. As it is I have a Props group list 30 groups long only managed by alphabet. It would be great to have subfolders within then from Poser. sorry starmkr for stealing your thread for my personal quest

I've heard that Poser 5 will allow a different means of organizing with sub folders, but not yet. You can only go one level down.
