I was working on an image using quite a few more people and props than I've ever used before and I got an error message that I was out of memory. The error screwed up my image completely.
I've read the manual where it discusses it but it's not that clear to me.

It says to make sure Poser is not running and from the "finder", click the icon then choose "file menu - > get info". I'm not sure what they mean by "finder". I recently downloaded the 4.03 patch. Any suggestions?

PC or Mac?

Mac. It looks to me like "Finder" is the Mac version of Explorer. In PCese, that would be like saying "do not start the program from explorer". What I believe this is referring to is the list of application properties for the program. There are apparently paramaters that can be set by accessing them from the "finder" icon, and one of these seems to be memory allocation. I believe the memory allocation needs to be set higher? Can you locate the icon in finder, then at the "file" menu (top) click to "properties"? Im guessing there will be something like "memory usage" or "priority". (I don't have a Mac, this is just my guestimate after some research. Can any Mac folks confirm or deny?)

If you're on a Mac (as suggested by 'finder'): 1)Open up the folder that the Poser application is in. 2)Click-- just once-- on the application icon, to select it. 3)Choose 'get info' from the File menu, or press 'control-i'. 4)There is a drop-down menu in the Information box. Select 'memory' from that. You can also select it from the file menu itsekf if you have heirarchical menus enabled: there will be an arrow to the right of the 'get info' and you'll be able to select 'memory' directly from that. 5) Enter as high an amount of memory as you can afford to allocate to Poser in the boxes, minimum first. If you're not sure how much RAM you have (and you're under OS9.x; not sure how to do this in OSX) look under the Apple menu: About This Computer. It will tell you how much you have, and how much the system needs. If you're running on a low spec system (as I am), it is helpful to reboot the machine if you've been using anything from Microsoft or Photoshop; there may be others where this is a problem. These have 'memory leak' issues-- they gradually eat more RAM the longer they run, and you need to reboot to free the memory they've claimed. It's also good to keep at least 1 GB free on a Mac using Virtual Memory. Not to do so can cause file corruptions-- ack! It's not happened to me, but I've heard of it. Hope that helps!

It's a PC, which is why the instructions in the manual were confusing.

Something I noticed last night was that it only did this when I tried to use a piece of clothing I had downloaded for Mike. I was going to re-download it when I noticed it did the same thing to me when I tried to use something I had just bought here at the Marketplace. The marketplace item had the paths set and Winzip usually just unzips into the folders the artist has set up. Problem was this artist had them going into a "vickienameofitem/runtime/geometries"..etc and I had to go in and clean that up. After fixing that I didn't get the error so I'm going to assume that was the root of the problem. I may have been using more items and props in this one but I've rendered larger images and hadn't had the memory error. Hopefully that was all it was.
