Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
I'm actually getting the "You are low on memory!" message with the current piece I'm working on. I'm only used to seeing that with corrupted RSRs for the obj files, so it's a new one on me. I'm working with a heck of a lot less memory than you are and can usually easily do a Mike/Vicky combo without problems. Let me guess ... you're on Win 2K? I think there's an allocation problem that someone else can walk you through fixing. I have the same problem you're having every now and then, especially if I've done a few test renders, or have my firewall on.
"Im working with about 750 RAM" If that means actual ram without disc cache you have seriously exceeded Win9x's ability to handle RAM. You can get cacheman (search downloads.com) to tweak some of your settings, but with that much RAM windows is literally choking on its own design flaws. I finally broke down and installed XP and it eliminated this problem. Of course, now Bill is spying on me...
I had the same problem, although with 4 vicky2's, 3 mike's, 4 posette's and 4 dork's in a very complex scene. Had to simplify lights (switched off some shadows). Now it takes only 15 minutes before rendering actually starts (still takes about an hour to actually render). Stopping the render at any stage will actually work but takes almost the same time as completing the render (so I don't bother to stop the render for any reason). I have to reboot the machine after two renders because of memory leaks and about once every two hours when just posing. My machine is a 1200 MHz Athlon with 750 Meg.
furhter details: Before it starts to render (before rendering shadow maps as well) and this problem happens- the various dials light up when I roll the mouse over them (like what usually happens when working in Poser)- however gives me the classic "DING" when I try to click. This only started happening recently, which makes me wonder if its because I am loading characters I previously made from the figure library (complete with props) versus loading the basic victoria and applying the morphs/textures/hair/etc from scratch? If Im not making any sense feel free to beat me with a club

Maybe some of you can help- whenever I add more than one figure to a scene (michael and victoria, 2 vicki's, etc) the scene will not render. It will halt just before it says RENDERING and the little dude steps across the bar. But the program wont crash, but I cant stop/cancel the render either- so I end up ctrl/alt/del and END TASK on the whole thing. Im working with about 750 RAM so I know memory isnt the problem. Any takers?
