Subject: Poser Forum Online is GONE

coldrake ( ) posted Sun, 16 January 2000 at 6:01 PM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 10:21 PM

Take a look. The only thing left is a goodbye board. You can thank jack and edgenet for this. Coldrake who certainly won't be coming here, I'll find ANOTHER forum, where money isn't the bottom line.

do take care, coldrake. pleased to see you stop byand tell us. wish ya the best!! ed

Money isn't the bottom line. There a lots of better ways to get rich than this. But it you want decent performance for a reasonable number of people you need to pay for it, and pay well. Bandwith isn't free. Somebody, somewhere gets a bill for it and shells out the cash. Currently this is Jack. Jack wants to not go broke supporting this, and maybe even make a few bucks. So he has to keep the financial picture in mind. I wish the PFO thing had not blown up. But, to the best of my knowlage, we never engaged in denial of service attacks, deleted messages, spammed the galleries and funstuff areas on the PFO and did the things that were done to this site by PFO members. We tried hard (and usually successfuly) to avoid saying nasty things about them, even though the PFO constantly attacked us. Willow and Grey were very difficult to deal with and, over time, painted themselves in a corner.

I have to say how sick and tired I am of people "stopping by" to tell us how we suck. If they are so unhappy here, don't come here. I got the bitterest email I ever saw from someone in a responsible position from "over there", whining about all the bad things the management from here has done. Grow up damnit! Act your age! I'm sorry to see the forum go, but that's evolution......

WarriorDL ( ) posted Sun, 16 January 2000 at 7:26 PM

They've closed the doors, Trav. Just a Good-bye Forum is up now. The losers in all of this- The users of Poser who went there instead of here. They lose because of Jack threatening lawsuit to PFO over PFO owning the Poser Forum Online name, and PFO defending themselves over it and being accused of slandering Renderosity. That info is just from reading the threads on BOTH sights. Anyways, an alternative for those not wishing to come here- Please do not slam Renderosity and make things even worse. Just go here and continue on with your Poser hobby- http://www.scifi-art.com/ubb/Ultimate.cgi Hopefully, the PFO being closed is only temporary. We'd appreciate anyone sharing knowledge and help that used to go to both forums to stop on by the link above as well to offer help to newbies, etc that may need it. We aren't involved in any damn Poser Forum war. We're there for the modelers, period. It may say Sci-Fi Arts, but I have arranged for our Poser Forum to act as if it were an "any art" forum. Just call it a shelter for now until things get figured out by the PFO.

Warrior can I post a link to your site on the side bar so that people can just click-through to your place? Jack

I don't know what everyone's talking about. I got the same email, but when I go to the attached link. I still get the community forum. http://209.103.212.48/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Community&number=12&DaysPrune=5&LastLogin=

I hate to say it, but I for one am not sorry to see them go. They stepped on me more than once. From blocking my account for uploading new characters that I created, to deleting messages that I had posted about characters available for sale, and to e-mailing me a very nasty message telling me never to make "Commercial" posting to their site anymore. No love loss here!

Coldrake, I am sorry that you feel the way you do, but you can't place the blame for this on Jack and Edgenet. The blame lies with the people who kept pushing and making accusations IN PUBLIC about things that should have been dealt with in private and kept between the parties involved. I don't know the details or the facts and I don't want to know them. It is none of my business until it is decided in a court of law! When I read Ian's letter I was at first saddened to hear that the PFO would be closing (which as it turns out isn't really happening), then as I read further I got to the accusations. This dismays me. It is unprofessional at the least, and at the most downright stupid. When you make statements like the ones that have been made publicly lately, you are ASKING to be sued. In fact, in his letter Ian does ask to be sued! He also states, "When your house is being robbed, do you not want justice?". That's reasonable. But you don't go around accusing your neighbor of stealing from you in public. You let the courts handle it. If you don't, you shouldn't whine about being sued. If my neighbor did that to me, I'd sue the pants off of him, too! You can only push people so far before they fight back. Seems to me Jack held out a lot longer than most people would have.

Yes, this is a business (no one here has ever implied otherwise). And yes, Jack is defending his business. What is wrong with that? He has not asked any of us for money. He does not require any dues to be a member here. He provides a valuable service and he does it well. If he can make a living doing that, who am I to be upset about it? I don't get upset at Safeway for making money selling me groceries. I don't get upset at Macy's for making money selling me clothes. If I find the price fair and the service reasonable, I continue to do business there. I find the price here (free) very fair and the service exceptional! I think the thing that dismayed me the most about Ian's email was the implication of hatred. Just because people disagree with you does not mean they hate you. Sure, there are a few people who have made some rather strong statements, but I have seen no hatred expressed toward PFO on this forum. And isn't it odd how the big bad business has managed to pull together a group of people in a very short time that has become a family? Perhaps it is for the very reason that it is a business, dedicated to principals of fairness and open expression. And that they stick to their principals rather than letting ego and emotion rule. Diane

EdgeNet has had nothing to do with the recent events, and since Jack took over, has done nothing more than be the ISP for this site.
