Subject: Applying MAT poses from the 'Hair' Library. How? pssst... hey Jaager!

Okay... Does anyone know how to get MAT poses for hair to work from the 'Hair' library? It was my understanding that the poser library files all basically contained the same type of information and that the ending (.cr2, .pz2, .cm2, etc...) only dictated in which libray they needed to be in order to be read by Poser. Therefore... It is possible to rename your MAT pose files with the .cm2 extension and they can be happily stored and applied through the less used 'Camera' directory. Why then will this not work with hair MAT pose files? I decided that I wanted to move my hair colour MATs into their respective 'Hair' directories for convienience sake... I rename the .pz2 to .hr2 . It should work. It does not. I can see them in the 'Hair' libray, but they will not function. Why is this? Now here's the real curious bit... Even thoough they will not appy to the selected hair, the texture map is added to the 'Texture Map' drop down menu in the 'Render > Materials' dialog box. Yes, quicker than hunting through your hard drive for it... but not as fast as automatic application. I know that there are considerations to take into account when appling MAT pose files to props... The prop must be parented and the addendum '0 0' must be added to the .pz2 after the material information... What considerations are there when dealing with hair? Is it possible to have MAT .hr2 files? If anyone has any insight, please do let me know. Thanks

I think that hand, hair, character, and props have idiosyncratic properties that limit what they will do to what they are. I may well be wrong, but it is my working hypothesis. I think the cross compatibility is limited to lt2/cm2/pz2/fc2.

Yep I think you may be right... The same exact same information/code is in the working MAT pose .pz2 that is in the newly renamed MAT .hr2. Same code, different endings/Libraries.... The ONLY reasonable explanation is that of idiosycracies. Mayhaps something could be added to the .hr2 to make it work... but I'll be damned if I can figure it out. Been tinkering with script(s) for 3 hours now. What do you know about loading a light and a prop, simultaneously, with one click of a libray pre-set? A 'Light' file won't load a prop and a 'Prop' file won't load anything with a light attached. Do you think maybe I have to turn the prop into a figure and load as a .cr2? This is the ongoing xperimentation so I will have the answers later this eve, but a little insight goes a long way to the dvancement of the project. :) Thanks

Other than setting up a lights that are a pair of spots parented to the main camera and pointing at the head and abdomen of the selected figure, I have done very little. I don't know what I know about them. I wonder about producing new cameras with spots attached to aid in setting the spots up. Seeing the location thru a camera sure beats guessing. And, I bet even more control can be had by pointing the spot at an invisible ball prop and maneuvering the prop for fine tuning. I just made the setup my preferred state and also saved it as a pz3 and use PStart to open with it. The PZ3 method would allow for any number of different light arrangements. Poser seems to behave better if you flush it before any major change. It frees up RAM and helps avoid a freezeup. So you might consider a different path to your result.
