its your operating system man. i would highly recommend updating it to an NT based OS - 2k or XP. ive always had problems with poser locking up in 9x, even with 1.5gb of RAM.. but it has never once locked up under either xp or 2k. cheers, -gabriel

I have had some trouble rendering Steph, as it seems to lock during the rendering process. I bought the hi-rez textures, and here are my specs: Pentium III 1 Ghz 128 MB SDRAM So maybe my computer isn't powerful enough or something. ben

I should say that this doesn't always happen, I've rendered her with the blunt cut, before. Could be that i work with about 5 website windows open, and poser at the same time . . .

Seriously lalverson...its Windows98. It can't deal with Poser's memory issues very well. That 512k of ram may sound good, but Windows9x can't deal with it. It was designed when home PC's never had that much RAM, and its choking on its own design (Microsoft has articles about these issues if you want to look them up). I installed XP and now scenes that wouldn't render have no problems. If you don't whan to change your OS, you can get cacheman (search downloads.com) to tweak some Windows settings that will help...but it won't cure the base issue.

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 6:33 PM

I would except that if not the fact that I have rendered images with 27 figures in it using billy-T clothes, mike and both versions of vicky, with high resolution texture maps. Granted win98 is nto geared to decent memory management, however, I have tried this on XP and 2K as well and they have failed as well. Now XP and 2K have better memory management, however, that doesn't correct how poser deals with memory, which is the same regardless of the OS.

What happenes if you just load these three figures into scene and render without the props?

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 6:57 PM

If they are nude and nothing else they render, once.

JeffH ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 7:01 PM

Is the map on Steph the one from Daz? If so, drop the texture map from that character and see if the scene will render.

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 7:08 PM

Yes...it is.. lemme test that out, I have a freetexture of streph.

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 7:10 PM

and it is the standard res texture.

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 7:43 PM

a fresh steph with no changes to the body and no textures it renders..

JeffH ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 8:29 PM

Even the free texture didn't render?

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 8:38 PM

correct I scrapped that one and did a steph, V2, Mike, all in billy-t clothes without one character that was in the original( the girl asleep) and lo it renders. I gotta look at the size of that texture.

ElectricAardvark ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 10:26 PM

What are they watching?

TalmidBen ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 1:44 AM

"What are they watching?" ROFLOL. You should win some sort of prize for that question.

Hiram ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 10:27 AM

Yeah, but what I want to know is: what's up with his winkie?

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Sat, 16 March 2002 at 1:55 AM

I had trouble with Stephanie locking up my machine when rendering (but it was not always reproducible) Finally, I shrank my textures down to 1/2 their original size (had planned on doing that any way, don't need the larger files just yet) and it hasn't been a problem since. I've used other textures of the same size, but perhaps these have a higher color depth or the bump map is considerable larger (mine were the daz hi res maps) eric
