Subject: obj export/import in max3

Ok, so i've been out of the loop a bit. I just got a copy of max 3 and would really like to find the obj import/export plugins for it (if they exist yet). Any suggestions?

The .obj import/export plugins for MAX 3 can be downloaded from http://www.habware.at/duck3.htm Good luck! /Bjn

I'm not sure if the HABWARE plugins in the Free Stuff section have been updated or not. Run a search for HABWARE in the Poser Free Stuff. Paul

I've just checked and the Free Stuff plugins are still Version2.x. I was gonna give you the URL, but see that Bjorn beat me to it :) Paul

Hmm, I swear I saw a great picture of what settings to use in a thread in the 3DS MAX forum, but I can't find it now... However, check out the old threads in that forum, there are lots of qustions and answers about the settings for the HABWare plugins there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help... =) /Bjn

I haven't gone to Max 3 yet, but there are discussions concerning the correct settings here. The one I recall was "the last item on the list" in the diagog box...don't know the Item name, but a setting of "12" has always been mentioned as the correct one. hehe..kind of vague, but hopefully you can find the threads.

Heres the link to Virus's thread with the settings http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=2104&Form.ShowMessage=53618 on your other message about materials from 3DS I wouldn't worry to much as you can run the finished OBJ through uvmapper and create a texture map and if needed add materials ..........Steve

sixus1- I use the Habaware plug in all the time, the setting I use are: Rotate on both in and out (Why work sideways!) Scale factor either 1000 or 1 on the imports- if you use 1 the scale will be so small that you can't use a perspective window, but the scaling on export is broke, so you will need to use something else, like Objaction to scale it back up. Scale factor of 1 on export, use 6 decimal, others say use more here, but Poser only uses 6, why write bigger files? Export as Polygons, unless that crashes 3Ds Max DO A REGULAR SAVE FIRST!!!, then use triangles. I finally got around EMailing Harald A. Blab (Habaware's author) about the problems, and got a nice reply back today, he suggest welding all identical vertices might elimate the Polygon crashing 3DS, and he is looking into both problems. Incidently, I think Objactions strips UV information, so keep that in mind if you use it, like I do.
