Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 14 10:57 am)
You can use the Drop-to-Floor command (CTRL-D) on each keyframe to return a figure to ground level, or, if you have Pro Pack, run an included Python script that does this automatically. Alternatively, you can turn off the ground plane and create a new floor prop underneath the figures, using a square primitive from the Props library.
If by animation window, you mean the Media Player window that pops up after Poser finishes creating the AVI animation, select Exit from the new window's File menu, or click the X-button in the upper-right-hand corner of the window.
You can add scenes or sets in which your virtual actors move around. They are usually treated as figures or props depending upon their complexity. You can also add a 2D background image by means of Poser's import function (either a still-frame or a video). In addition, nerd and Runtime DNA offer textured backdrop props against which your characters can cast shadows.
Britt, There are TWO things that will affect a figure's height from (above or below) the ground (floor)level. You need to check BOTH: Body ----> "yTrans" Hip -----> "yTrans" The easiest way to check both items is to use the "graph" function in the animation palette. cheers, dr geep ;=]
Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"
cheers,
dr geep ... :o]

You get a rendered .AVI by going through the windows that come up from "Make Movie" in the animation menu which come up when you press "OK" in the window shown in wipe's post. Selecting uncompressed frames will give the best quality (and the largest file size). Getting rid of the animation window is a little tricky...there's a small indented box in the upper left corner...click on it to make the window go away (but your cursor has to be on this small box to get it to work). Or I would think if you clicked on the Window menu at the top of the screen, you could deselect the animation window. BTW, as not many use P4 for animation (yet), most animation questions are newbie questions.
You guys are the greatest! I've had the poser manual with me all day, - and I couldn't find these REALLY logical solutions!! Little Dragon... I played with the figure, - got the first and the last frame, and "cheated" and lifted them off of the floor, - and made them start so that they actually "hit the floor" g when htey're dancing, or whatever. I guess that's a "cheap solution" that will haunt me furtner down the road... Right? :) No, and by the animation window I mean that BIG screen that fills your monitor, covers your figure, and where you can set keyframes etc. I think the headline in the Poser manual says "Advanced editing" Uh... and I couldn't even find the button to turn that window off... I had to shut down poser, and re-open it shameful look... OK... so I'm taking some shortcuts g I wanted to use the RDNA cove. I've used that for a lot of stills. :) and kbade answered my question! I think YAY! THanks! I have found a way to convert the files to the flash format, which is what I want, - so I guess that's a matter of finding out where to add backgrounds the best way, no? wipe You're my hero (along with geep) from now on... YAY I didn't even thing that there was a drop down there!!! Arghhh! lol THANK YOU! See, - that simple is a newbies problems. :) uh... and see my above remark. :) That's what I did, - and I did get the figure "grounded". But I thought that was "cheating" :) and I AM on Poser 4. and I'm reluctant of buying Pro-pack till I see when (IF) Poser 5 ever comes out. geep That graph function looks scary!, - and will I be able to close that window? lol I'm so new at this animation stuff, - but I have a client who says he NEEDS it, - and I'm just so proud of myself that I've been able to get the Poser animated AVI's out in Flash format :) Uh... where's the best way to start with those scary Animation windows in Poser??? Any good tut's out there? Britt

I've made a couple of AVI movies in poser but am running into a couple of problems: I imported some BHV files, - and wanted to convert them to AVI. two major problems; and an additional question: my figures fall down through the ground... How can I avoid that?? the output is unrendered... can I get Poser to output a RENDERED avi.file? also; when I get the animation window up; I don't know how to get rid of the thing. lol I guess this is a real animatoin newbie question, huh? And a final question: I haven't played with more than the actual figures; but can I put up a "scene" and have the figures move around in an environment?? Thanks! Britt
