I'd love to see a cross-application texturing forum; I use Bryce, Poser and some Amorphium, and I am learning about texturing in a general sense. (and I use Photoshop for textures) I have been taking a peek (and sometimes more than a peek) at the tuts listed, but I am sure I am not the only one who'd like to discuss them or technique, or what works well, what doesn't, etc. ~S

Slynky ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2002 at 4:59 PM

I was thinking about this 10 minutes ago actually, but since I dont tezxture, I didn't post it. It would be kind of cool to have a texturing forum. Arguably, photoshop textureing questions can be posted in the photoshop forum, but what about software like UVMapper, Deep Paint 3D, Painter 3D, and many others. yuppers, it would be cool... yup, don't you agree Clint... Spike... everyone...

cainbrogan ( ) posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 12:22 PM

This would be interesting to browse. = )

Slynky ( ) posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 11:11 PM

then again, they are handing out forums like Off Topic (isnt this a duplicate of the Tavern minus the bear begging to become the next C and D??) like crazy these days, refusing to add useful forums like ones for Vector users, ones for stuff like Page Maker and Quark, etc. Right now, RS is still obsessed with 3D, which is only a blip on the radar screen when it come to computer art and design. Pretty much dead forums like Canoma, Render wars, Challenge arena and amorphium (all dead forums) are still available, while useful forums aren't being added.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Wed, 13 March 2002 at 11:44 PM

Rendering is the cutting edges of technology and art in the world today...not a blip. - )

Slynky ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 12:59 AM

It's a small part of a large picture, just like everything else. Yes, it is a blip, one of hundreds one the radar.

spinner ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 4:34 AM

I'd love to see Pagemaker and Quark forums too :-) Before I ended up in project management, I was in graphics/publishing, and I have used PM for donkey's years... well, until InDesign came along, anyway :-) What we could do, was to vote, sort of ? I"ll set up a thread with a "Vote for textureforum" and if we only add -blank- replies, then the admins could do a tally on the popularity, and we'd also see how big an interest this generated. Or we could just start a pleaaaaaaasse ! thread every new forum page ;-) ~S

steveshanks ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 7:28 AM

I've been thinking the same thing but i was thinking if i wanted to do say an italian house and an italian guy wanted to build an english house wouldn't it be great if we had a forum we could swap source materials and textures, i was going to suggest 2 forums but maybe a texture/source images forum would do?...if anyone reading this IS living anywhere that looks nothing like the north of england LOL and has a digital camera wanna start now :o)......Steve

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 1:23 PM

Spinner - the way our pledge goes is someone like yourself poses the idea and if the thread gets raved enough Admin. steps in. If everybody ignores the post, because thay had nothing posotive to contribute, the idea goes unheard... Slynky - You are a blip! No you're a Pin-Head! Know what, you can feel free to refer to yourself as a Blip Pin-Pinhead, to anyone you'd like, with my referal! Why do'nt you go scribble with some crayons and then come back here and try to sell it for millions like Picaso and his buddies did...I'll put in check, with the Photorealism, so quick your dog wo'nt want to look at you!

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 2:22 PM

I would love to see a texturing forum! I promise I would be a regular visitor and contributor to that forum! I just love the idea of talking and sharing ideas with other texturers, well as getting more info on using various programs for texturing, swapping textures, helping each other out when we are stuck, posting of freebie textures, etc, etc, etc. Can you tell I like the idea yet? ;o) Now....can the insults cease before this thread gets out of hand and locked? :o Some people would like to see this forum happen and it would be pretty shitty if the whole thread got de-railed because of some silly damn arguement.

spinner ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 2:33 PM

If you have an issue with Slynky, could you keep it out of the thread please ? The namecalling and BS all across the forums is getting fairly tedious. Thanks for the advice, tho. So how many people, or answers in a thread is the norm before the admins step in and create a new forum ? ~S

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 2:59 PM

Do'nt mention anything about his bashing your idea though... ;

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 3:04 PM

I don't really know Spinner. I have seen them create forums based on just a few replies and some based on a 100 post long thread. Other times I have seen repeated requests that took forever to get a forum. (Like the looooong time it took to get the ZBrush forum. LOL!) shrug Tell ya what though...I will go harass some folks about this thread if you promise to do the same. LOL! I really like this idea...thanks for bringing it up. =OD

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 3:48 PM

What, y'all are bored with yer Z Brush forum already? Why not just talk about textures in the Canoma forum? ;) Just kidding. Well, sinse Russ isn't around anymore, I'll tell youy waht he would have said. See how many people you can get to add to the group who wants this, and have 'em post here. That's how new forums get created.

kayjay97 ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 3:51 PM

I would love to see a texture Forum. I want to learn bad and tuts are okay but it would be nice to have a specific place to go for texturing questions

Spike ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 4:45 PM

Sounds like I need to add it to my list huh?

Pretty please? With cherries on top? =OD

dreamsosweet ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 5:25 PM

Sounds like a cool idea to me - I'm just learning to texture and would love to have somewhere to trade ideas and ask questions!

Cin- ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 5:26 PM

Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. :)

Sue88 ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 5:50 PM

Yes, a texturing forum would be great! :)

x2000 ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 6:28 PM

Hey, we have a general modeling forum, so let's get a general texturing forum to go with it. Great idea, Spinner:)

kayjay97 ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 6:50 PM

Can we vote twice?????

MikeJ ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 6:57 PM

Why not? I'll vote twice. Being a Floridian, it seems like the thing to do. ;)

Kiera ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 7:48 PM

I would love to see a texturing forum. It would be nice to have somewhere to talk about sources and methods.. and maybe even share some source material. (I have dozens of high res pictures of denim, for example, that I would be happy to share with other texturers. That sort of thing.) Consider this a vote. =)

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 11:04 PM

"That way, your ignorance, immatureness, and character..." Dude welcome to reality. This site is a 90% 3D(3D...Not 2D...You know that NUMBER that comes AFTER 2?) By saying 3D is a blip you bash most of the site you're refering to's members, and ca'nt expect that to go unoticed. Dur...hello? You do'nt walk into a reputable location and start bashing the local's premise, then expect the holyer than thou post to go unheard, by those you've insulted. I'm just writing because the record should stand clear here and now, if you want to contribute to this site do so, if not keep your perspective for yourself! Cain~ Cain~

nfredman ( ) posted Thu, 14 March 2002 at 11:10 PM

Cross-app texturing... Hmmm! Intriguing! If it covers UVmaps and all that too... kewl!

Jack D. Kammerer ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 1:58 AM

Yes, can you add me to this vote please? I would be interested in this as well!! Jack

spinner ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 2:20 AM

Wheeeee ! The more the merrier :-) !! Spike, is it on your to-do list yet ? :-)) ~S

cambert ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 4:58 AM

Yep, I'm in for this one too. It would be soooooooo useful.

MadYuri ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 7:12 AM

Juhu, another vote. :)

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 11:35 AM

count me in, too. I can always trade what I know for what others know g And I've got a great little digital camera for taking pictures of things like grass and trees and walls and... Kate

nikitacreed ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 11:54 AM

LOL! It looks like spinner's idea is gaining some popular support. So....can we have the forum?? Huh?? Huh?? Can we?? ;o)

Sipapu ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 3:48 PM

I want it. I want it. I NEED IT! Yes, please. A texturing forum. Please?

Brendan ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 6:55 PM

Yes please !

STORM3 ( ) posted Fri, 15 March 2002 at 7:55 PM

It would certainly relieve pressure on the Poser Forum where there are many texturing questions. A texturing Forum for Poser and for cross-application issues would be great. Add my vote as well. STORM

Axe555 ( ) posted Sat, 16 March 2002 at 3:11 PM

Sounds like a good idea. Put me down for a yes vote.

Jcleaver ( ) posted Sat, 16 March 2002 at 10:06 PM

Count me in! I would love something like this. I'm now bald trying to figure out the best method (or any method for that matter) to texturize some of my humble models.

spinner ( ) posted Mon, 18 March 2002 at 1:19 PM

Ok, tons of people have voted, and agree that this would be a good thing to have. What happens now ?

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2002 at 5:53 PM

Now we send Guido from the tavern out to smack the admins upside the head until they comply with our demands. G Oh wait...that's just for unpaid bar tabs? Darn. Nevermind.

nikitacreed ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2002 at 6:20 PM

Lotta votes here. Can we get the forum or what? ;o)

MadYuri ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 2:59 AM

I promise to go quietly to the Texturing forum and don't make more trouble in other forums. ;P Does my vote count double now?

Allen9 ( ) posted Fri, 22 March 2002 at 4:46 PM

Just addin' another vote. Go for it!

Jcleaver ( ) posted Wed, 27 March 2002 at 3:27 PM

Is there still any interest?

MadYuri ( ) posted Wed, 27 March 2002 at 4:12 PM

Yep.

Sue88 ( ) posted Wed, 27 March 2002 at 4:59 PM

Yes. :)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Wed, 27 March 2002 at 5:42 PM
