This is by no means i great pic, - but is posted to show you some of the flowers I've done with the help of Plantstudio, Amapi and UV mapper Pro. All of these had to be "fixed" some way or another. I found that the best way of taking them out of PlanStudio was via WRML. Not sure why that seemed to give me better results than the .obj, DXF or 3SD formats. All of them gave the results that cherokee described, - the triangular shaped leaves and flowers. I had to do SOME adjustments with all the plants in Amapi, but the most of the Daylilly, the two grass plants and the Fireweed could be fixed in UV mapper pro, by splitting verticles (using the standard setting), and welding. In some instances I also had to make the verticles 2-sided (which made them rather heavy on the polygon side!) For the Lilly of the Valley, the Buttercup plant, and the Violets; they are totally re-modelled in Amapi. Ugh! Litterally took me days, - and I'm not sure I think that the result is outstanding! I have not made textures for them, just assigned colors in Poser, and fiddeled with the transparency settings and the Reflective colors. I didn't think they were good enough to give away, - but if somebody would like them, I'll gladly post them to free stuff. I'm hoping Sharen can crack the file-format mystery - so that the PlantStudio plants can be converted rather painlessly to .obj format. I didn't find any good solution. Britt

These turned out great, I really think it is when you convert in 3D Exploration that changes things alot. I had a terrible time with that software when I was converting 3ds. Can someone email me a typical .3ds used for these flowers so I can try them or give me the url again to go get a sample. Sharen

Sharen, I didn't use 3D Exploration to convert them from WRML, Amapi reads that format, as well as DXF and 3ds. But for some reason the wrml format seemed to give less hassle than the other formats. Just sent you the url to a file I zipped just now. the plant is straight out of the plantstudio, - no editing there or anywhere else. Britt

I do see what you mean though with the triangles. There are just so many verticies it is unreal that Poser just seems to do something to it. I am going to see what it looks like in some of my other software. Sharen

See.. :) Good thing that you found that too. lol For a while back there I thought it was me that was totally bonkers. It was after I got UV mapper Pro, that I saw that these models really have some serious problems. Not sure why they seem to work better when I convert them out of Plant studio in VRML format, - maybe it chops off some of those verticles on its way? How did you get that upper flower?? Did you take the flower via some conversion program?? Britt

Have you talked with the Plant Studio creators - husband and wife programmer and horticulturist, as I recall. I crossed paths with him a few years ago at a scientific poster session and by chance discovered our Poser connection, very interesting, nice guy. Bet they can tell you more about this and probably help.

gryffnn. :) I'll do that, - and tell them more detailed about how I've experienced the different file formats etc. They do have an interesting software, - but if you look at renders done in other softwares, you'll see that Poser isn't the only program that has problems in getting the models right. I only used plant studio plants in bryce, and they work quite well, but loads of different meshes to assign materials to. I would be interested in the ones you have converted, because my fairies love flowers.

Yes, I took the 3ds and converted it in BodyPaint, brought to UV and kept the materials but grouped the entire plant as one. Sharen
