The texture map which is only half done, by the way, is done in photopaint 8 using layers the "mottled" part is on a separate layer and was done using corel texture maker ,that came with the program , to make a grayscale cellular like texture. Then I increased the contrast to get more of a vien like appearance. Then I just used it as a brush texture with it set to 100% after that it paints like a transparency map, whatever is in the black areas in the brush texture, paint, the white areas don't. I've spent the greatest part of the time for this on getting just the right effect and I'm glad you like it.
Talos, her armor is only about 25% finished and will include "borg implants" that will be used on the female as well as the male figures. Some of the detail will also be included in the texture map (I said it's only half finished) the reason for this is that in order to post it or make an image with it if I make everything out of props the file size would be HUGE! The texture map is coming along so well I couldn't resist posting at least a preview.
It looks awesome. Maybe asking a bit much, but since I'm somewhat new to all this, is there a tutorial available to do something like this? Also can anyone give me advice on how to create clothing for my POSER4 models? I'm trying to help a friend create a new dance costume by using the POSER models. Thanks.
Dkirk, so far what your seeing is just a texture map and a few props parented to the body parts, as far as tutorials mostly im using the ones in the tutorial section in particular, the clothing tutorial by PhilC. what I've done so far is using Poser 4, I have exported individual body parts or combinations of them as needed to use as a template to build parts around or used the body part itself and just modified it.If you look you will notice that the leg parts are modified p4 nude womans legs that I took into Ray dream 5.5 and modified and just used the add thickness command. I could do a tutorial when I'm finished but right now I'm pretty much playing it by ear. LoboUK, yes I plan on making a separate map for the drones too ( I'll use the same technique). Making that mottled skin was easy once I figured out how to use the brush texture . Now that I have the brush texture the effect is easy to repeat.
Mark thank you for the reply. I don't have Ray Dream but I do have 3d Studio Max. So I export the entire figure into Max and then build the props around that? Then how do you create the texture maps to match the figure? I have Photoshop 5 but not Painter. I know I'm asking alot (and I'll probably have to ask some more) but so far yours is some of the best work (seriously) I've seen here and I realize that since you're busy on this not to expect too much help. But thanks a whole lot really. Most of us "newbies" learn more from accomplished designers like you than from the manuals. I bet this thread is gonna go on for a long time! Thanks again.
Hob, yes I would post the brush texture it's just a greyscale image, If someone could tell me how I have only posted images in the gallery. Dkirk, I have only created clothes once with Truespace 3, but I imagine Max is probably better at it, I wish I could afford it, anyway I created a dress around a poser woman. Once it's finished just delete the womanand export your clothes, dress ,or whatever into the .obj format then ,if you have it, use UVmapper to make a template then it's just a matter of painting the map with your photoshop 5, I use corel photopaint 8 which I don't think is to much different than photoshop. Accomplished designer?(insert laughter here)would you believe I have only posted 2 images and this is my first figure, I just do this as a hobby and I don't know that much more than you . But your on the right track ,every thing I have learned was learned doing what your doing , asking questions, if I can help anymore just ask. Oh, by the way I seem to remember a tutorial in the tutorial section on using Max to make clothes it might be worth looking into. Rorschach, I'm not sure what you mean by wiring the back of her neck, if you mean the hoses and tubes yes(she woudn't be a borg without them) My plan is to use a separate posable tube figure for that, pose into the shapes I like , export it then bring it back in as a prop.
The project has been on the back burner for sometime now (to many contests and not enough time). I recently bought the quick suit combo that was in the store for this purpose because from the beginning I had wanted to make a something like the catsuit that was conforming . The quicksuit combo is perfect for this because I don't have to start from scratch to make a suit and with this I can slice and dice the mesh to my hearts desire because thats what it's made for . I may get back on this project this weekend but be aware that what I am working on is an alternate vision of the borg and probably won't look exactly like the borg on the TV shows and the movies .
