Subject: Strange occurrences when downloading models

In the last few days, when I download a fresstuff model, I click on "download", and Renderosity gives me a window "I can't find this file" with the name of the desired download zip file in its page-filename line. But, in that window the usual download window appears, and I can download the file. What is this a symptom of?

I could be wrong but I think this was Rosity's workaround for free hosts that don't allow direct linking to the files on the site.

in the last few days, entire branches of the internet have been experiencing packet loss problems. this has occurred in the evenings EST (NY Time), from around 1 am to 6 am. it may be that a major routing hub is undergoing some problem and this is when they try to fix it, or is being overloading with 'hacker' traffic meant to create denial of service conditions. as far as i am aware of, we are not doing anything different.

Note: I started a new thread with the following message before I read this one. It may have some bearing. Message follows: I've noticed over the last month or so that I would get an error in IE after clicking on download buttons in Free Stuff which didn't link to another site. The new browser window would open and then an error dialog would appear complaining about the attempt to load the URL: http:...freestuffdownload.ez failing. I'd been bypassing this problem by looking at the freestuff page html source, copying the link for the thumbnail image to another window and working back from there, in the case where there wasn't a link to the contributors' webpage. I finally got sick of this today and after lengthy investigation of browser settings and forum searches for others with similar problems, decided to try something different. I had been in the habit of leaving all my freestuff downloads in a single folder, having noticed that each download is automatically assigned a different sequence number, e.g. freestuffdownload 3.ez. On closer inspection, I discovered that the whole number sequence from 1 to 100 had been allocated. What, I wondered, would happen if I moved all these files to a different folder? Lo, and behold, downloads are now working again!!! I have not discovered exactly what is responsible for allocating unique names to the download files, whether it be IE itself, the Mac Classic OS (9.1) or the Renderosity download scripts, but a little bit of regular housekeeping seems to be necessary to avoid the unexplained and frustrating download failures I'd been suffering. I hope this proves helpful to someone else. Cheers, Geoff

When I download a model, it comes with the original filename, e.g. workman.zip if it is a model of a man in an overall.

It's probably just more IE stupidity. One day I'll go back to Knotscoop.
