Subject: Error at importing a morph target

I get an error if I try to import a morph target. "Target does not contain the correct number of points" or somehow like this because I own the german edition of poser. Seravajan

Well, when you get that error, it means that the morph target you're trying to apply isn't based on the same geometry as the body part you're trying to morph. Can you give us more information? Such as what morph you're applying and to what body part?

I have exported the head as a morph target from Poser 4 Dude to experimenting with morphs. I'm using Poser 4, Scaler 3c for scaling up and 3D Canvas for working on the mesh. After finishing the work on 3d Canvas I scaled it back and then I tried to import it as a morph object. Seravajan

3D Canvas probably split the head into separate objects and doubled the vertices at the points where those objects connect. The head is really composed of the teeth, the tongue, the eyelashes, the eye brows, the inside of the mouth, and the rest of the head. Truespace does the same thing and has the same problem. -SMT

Yep this is true. But how to circumvent this? Is there a possibility to prevent this by the export from Poser 4? Seravajan

My solution is pretty expensive, and I have no idea if it would for 3D Canvas. Polytrans from Okino Software is a format converter that's very powerful it lets me import the Wavefront OBJ file without breaking it apart then export it into Truespace's native COB file format. When I'm done, I import the file back into Polytrans and export back to OBJ. This works for Truespace because Polytrans supports the Truespace native format. I don't think it supports 3D Canvas native format, if indeed, 3D Canvas has a native format. A far less expensive but more complicated work around that a lot of people use is John Wind's "Compose" utility. It works by remembering how a mesh was broken up, and then making sure it's reassembled properly. It's not the easiest program to use, however, and I still don't know if it will help you with 3D Canvas. Compose is a Java program that will work on both PC and Mac. I have compose but there is no help about how to use its special abilities. Seravajan

Insane up to $900 for a converting program. For this money can I get Carrara and its sister AMAPI 3D as a bundle! By the way: Can Poser export into Truespace COB format because 3D Canvas can import/export this format too. Else I have to transform it with compose and trying to import it as a truespace file. There has been talk about a Truespace plugin for Poser Pro, but at this time Poser only exports OBJ, 3DS, LWO, and DXF, although it also has plugins for Max and Lightwave. If you're not using one of the plugins, then you have to export/import via OBJ format in order to use the mesh as a morph target. -SMT
