Subject: Suggestion... Dragon Comparisons?

Here's a suggestion... why not do plain, white, untextured renders of the various dragons available out there, all at the same display size and a 3/4 view from, say, the dragon's top right? That way people could compare directly. I'd reccomend about 600x500, and a roughly relaxed standing position, with a focal length of 110-120. You could also post a link where the particular dragon is available. By this, I mean the basic dragons, of course... the DAZ Dragon, Anton's Storybook dragon, the Ultimate Dragon, and so on. I'll post such images here, later, of my own Dracos Titanicus and Land Dragon. Anyone with any of the other dragons is hereby invited to do so, so all the dragon fans can get their fix, and tell which one best suits what they want!

Once again, all white. However, I don't have any other dragons (except Anton's free one...) Actually, I don't have that free dragon anymore... my Poser HD wiped yesterday. Can anyone continue this thread?

This is a non-posable free prop version of Konan's Ultimate Dragon. I don't have the posable figure but it looks like it has some cool features, especially since it was made way back in 99.

Another oldie. This one is Anton's free dragon. It's a freebie he released a long time ago. It's pretty hard to find these days. I got it quite recently but I can't remember the site where I found it. I think there was a post about it in the poser forum.

Here's one of my favorites! Anton's Wingless Dragon from Bbay.com store. I think I read that this one is no longer available? But maybe if everyone all yells out at once; "PRETTY PLEASE ANTON!?!? PRETTY PLEASE!!?"

OOh Betty ( ) posted Sat, 23 March 2002 at 9:31 PM

I'd like to see a white render of the Puff and Drago characters for Daz Dragon if possible. This is a great thread. I've been going round and round about getting a dragon for 6 months. Thanks!

Wow... you sure have a lot of dragons, igohigh... Well, to my reckonning, we still need renders of the Adult hatchling, and Mock's dragon... just flat white, 600x500.... Anyone out there wanna post? Oh, and Drago, even though Drago is a DAZ dragon character...

Ahem ... I don't have any pictures to post, but I thought I'd share this link to Anton's original dragon freebie, as illustrated in post #7:

Link to Fantasy 3D

Don't forget that Anton also has an articulated dragon skeleton at DAZ, perfect for those dead/undead dragon characters. And blbarrett has a sea dragon here in the Renderosity Marketplace.

OOh Betty,

Here is Drago with the heavy body morph, spike tail prop, eys wide head morph and various other head morphs. Also two head fins and poseable whiskers. Plus there are a series of new spine spikes. All and more are in the total package.

Thanks for asking!

All of these, and i have yet to see a satisfactory traditional Chinese dragon. Bloodsong's dragon facttory comes closest, but the beard and horns were still not right (for me, that is). psniff!

Valandar ( ) posted Sun, 24 March 2002 at 10:16 AM

Okay, we have most of the major Dragons shown here... now the only dragon left -THAT I KNOW OF- are Mock's dragon and the Storybook Dragon (I think, unless it's one of the ones above under another name). Will anyone with these go ahead and post them, please?

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 24 March 2002 at 11:57 AM

Think that is all I know too except for the many varieties of the dragon factory which you mentioned above. :) Cool idea

BL's headmorph is pretty impressive. With that I may change my opinion of getting that dragon. Heh heh... I still want something MEAN... Heh.. for a model of this, that looked this good with a nice texture and decent movement I'd easily pay 100 bucks Anz

Valandar ( ) posted Mon, 25 March 2002 at 12:43 AM

We still need your dragon, Mock, and your Storybook Dragon, Anton! Both are very good from what I've seen, and will likely do well in this little comparison!

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 25 March 2002 at 1:27 AM

There's still a couple of dragons by BryceTech to go too. MadYuri, It's not 100% certain yet, but it seems likely I'll be doing an EasyPose add-on for the Dragon Skeleton at some stage.

Valandar ( ) posted Mon, 25 March 2002 at 10:11 AM

Anzan, perhaps I should do morphs like that for my Dracos Titanicus, eh? It's certainly muscular enough to pull it off. Mock, dude! Do I need to lasso you with an easypose whip from Ajax? Trust me, your dragon is awesome, and can only benefit here!

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

and now that you've got me digging around in my archives, here's one that I doubt many of you have (or if you do you've forgotten all about it :-) Originally d/l'ed in November of 1999 it was called 'Gargoyle V2' & IMHO is close enough to a dragon to be included

cooler ( ) posted Sun, 07 April 2002 at 6:42 AM

my apologies... the 1st one I posted isn't Antons Dragon but rather it's from David Deschamphelaere's (aka 'RevWhacker') Arbian Collection & was originally a freebie with a $5 "add-on" pack of horns, tex maps & morphs.
