Subject: Help with abusive Chat participant

Valandar ( ) posted Fri, 29 March 2002 at 10:28 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 6:00 PM

There is an individual who comes into chat quite often, under the name Heckenschuetze. He has been tempbanned before, under his ID of Novakmark, and his activities disrupt chat on a constant basis. Among other things, he has made claims to have hacked R'osity members, and earlier today insinuated he hacked the Renderosity Chat Applet. Various members of the Chat portion of this community have complained on multiple occasions to admins, even quoting his abuse of fellow chat inhabitants to them, but nothing has been done. I myself sent a portion of the chat from yesterday where he claimed to have hacked a R'osity member to JenyK, but nothing has happenned. Can something be done about this?

Well, if you enter a chat (here , as anywhere else on the Web), then be ready to find & meet all kinds of wackos amongst the people who go into chat-rooms.(who are here because they're in a lack of communicating with other people, like a drug-addict would do anything, included crime to get his drug.). It's simple. I am talking with some experience about it. It's a contemporay sociological phenomenon. But ther's no mystery about the causes of these kind of behaviours. _I don't say nothing has to be done, but some "indulgent feelings should be necessary to be considered towards these guys, as well not giving too much importance to their talks is important too, but just knowing about them, that Solitude is halas becoming a "way of life"...let's say it's better that some talk and still can be "virtually" ugly, than if they became ugly with real crimes in the reality. We call this a kind of "madness-gate", a "garde-fou", kind of screen to keep some people or kids from jumping by the window, or aggressing physically other people. But what is this, compared to the everyday real massacre of thousands people in the world, as if natural catastrophies were not enough that we have to accept this blindly because of the famous Statement: "There's nothing we can do about it". That's only how I can react to what you say. I understand it's gross. Alf.

I was sending in chat logs constantly to several of the admins (several one hour snippets a day). And I didnt get any response till I guess I made Audre mad. Today he (Heck) came into chat, tried to buddy up to everyone untill he got kinda mad all of a sudden with out anything in chat to provoke him, when he said that he was banned and also rattled off several insults to me (like that I was a pervert, and telling me to shut up). My whole problem has been that the admins have known about this problem for months (Heck made Cookie so mad he suspended him and threatened to ban him a while before he stepped down). Rcook seemed to be the only one who would do anything about it, but as everyone knows he no longer works here. There would be times when multiple people would send the logs into all available mods and admins and not even get a response. I am not saying that all admins are this way, its just seems that the majority sometimes seem this way. In the long run, they are above us and we must respect their decisions, but it shouldnt take lighting a fire under them to get one. Hopefully from now on they will be more responsive to the needs of their constituents.

I'd like to remind everyone of something. There is an ignore button. It isn't that hard to use it...

CrystalWizard ( ) posted Sat, 30 March 2002 at 7:39 PM

just as a comment...i'm wondering how much experience the people complaining the loudest that nothing was done have actualy had administrating a service such as this.

Valandar ( ) posted Sat, 30 March 2002 at 7:47 PM

I don't know. However, the Ignore function does not prevent seeing the individual disconnect and reconnect multiple times. And if someone can be banned in a heartbeat for a forum entry, why should it take a month for someone repeatedly abusive in chat to be banned? A day is understandable, even a week, but a month?

Crystal, I am a mod of a big website, and have done similar work before. I know it can get to be a pain, but I still try to make listening to complaints a priority. Slynk, I have used the ignore command but some of the things he would do would render it useless (loggin out and reentering, or constantly changing the ID he was using). Plus with other people yelling at him, I would still have that bleeding through so short of ignoring everyone in chat, I couldnt really do anything.

Slynky ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 6:05 PM

in that case, leave and come back later if its so annoying. If the ignor button doesnt work, you could always choose either not to pay attention to him (as I've done), or play his game and piss him off right back (which I RELISHED in doing, it wasn't that hard). could always IM people to meet in another room as well.

Hey guys, If a member is breaking the TOS in chat, please let us know so we can take action. Copy the chat and send it to us. Also, if you don't here back from us but the member stops breaking the rules, you can bet it's because we did something.

Problem Slynk was that he was always there, from about 4 in the afternoon here to about 1 in the morning

Hellmark ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 6:16 PM

Spike, I have sent in dozens of chat logs and never heard anything from you and nothing happened to the person

Spike ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 7:28 PM

Send me the chat log: spike@renderosity.com If it's who I think, we did take action, but I am not sure until I see the log. Thanks

Hellmark ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 7:51 PM

I don't have the logs anymore, unless I dig them up. Plus there was more than one (as I said before I sent in several a day)

Spike ( ) posted Thu, 04 April 2002 at 9:36 PM

Hmmm... We went through a time where many members were pointing fingers at each other, It's very hard for us to know who did what or who started a fight. In some cases, members would get a attack and would reply with there own attack. This makes it very hard for us to take action on just one member as many were involved. What may have started out as one member breaking the TOS turned into many. All I can offer you is this. If a member breaks the TOS in chat, Please save the file and send it to us so we can take action. Thanks
