Subject: Looking for a Boba Fett and C3PO model (Poser cr2 file preferred)- contest

JHoagland ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 12:44 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:19 AM

I am wokring on some Star Wars images and wondered if anyone has (or knows where to get) a Boba Fett or C3PO figure. I would prefer a Poser cr2 or pz3 file, since they can be posed, etc, but I'll take an obj version if it's available. I have found plenty of Darth Maul, a few Vader, and some Luke models, but the non-human characters are very hard to find. Actually, let's make this more interesting- I have just finished another Windows program (that will be for sale on my website later tonight). I am willing to offer this program as a prize for the first person who can find (or make) the best Boba Fett -and- C3PO figures. This is not an "official" contest and there aren't really any "rules"- I'm looking for these figures and offering an incentive to have other people help me look. :) If you're a figure-maker and have been wanting to make these figures anyway, here's your change to win a prize! And since I only need them for non-commerical images, there shouldn't be any "copyright" issues (even though we all know that LucasFilms owns the rights to the likenesses). Feel free to send me an e-mail if you know where to find the models (or if you have any questions): jch@cocs.com. (Be sure to mention that you saw this in the Renderosity Forum.) P.S. If you want a challenge, I could also use a Jake Lloyd/ Anakin Skywalker figure (with authentic-looking clothes). --John

* INSERT EVIL LAUGH HERE *

C3PO and Episode 1 Anakin (fully clothed) are easy; try Posergamers. John Malis has done a number of Star Wars characters, including those two.

If you need additional droids, stormtroopers, sandtroopers, Jawas, Vader, Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, Jar-Jar, etc., you can find them at 3D Poser.com.

Sci-Fi 3D is another good source of Star Wars character meshes, although none are Poser-ready.

Boba Fett, Jango Fett, and Mandalorians in general are more of a challenge. I know there are meshes out there, but few people seem to be sharing. I can't find one in .obj format, but Carlo DeCesare has an excellent mesh in .3ds format at 3D Cafe (bobafet1.zip). It's shown in the render above. Imports into Poser flawlessly, although it'll drive you mad asking for dozens of nonexistant texture maps.

Is that John Jongsma's See-Through-PO from Sci-Fi 3D? Which format did you use?

ElectricAardvark ( ) posted Fri, 05 April 2002 at 4:53 PM

Yuppers. I used the 3DS format. It loaded without checking for any textures, unlike Fett. That's funny, that is the same Fett I was going to show...lol. There is a better one around, but I can't remember where I saw it. ~EA

(trying not to drool on the keyboard!) We have a winner... well, two actually: 1) a guy from GMX.net (who forgot to include his Renderosity name in the e-mail he sent me) 2) Little_Dragon- for sending me an e-mail AND posting the links to find the stuff AND posting the great picture. They will boht be receiving a copy of my new Poser Object Organizer Program- for sale on my website in the next few hours. In fact, check back later, in the Product Showcase Forum, for the official announcement. Again, thanks for the help! --John

You're welcome. I'll look forward to whatever you offer, although I'm just as happy to help people find things free-of-charge. I hoard bookmarks, and sharing doesn't diminish my collection. :)

Um, you are aware of what the initials of your new product spell, right?

Hey, we'll have none of the POOP talk here! Besides, it's an acronym- the letters should all be in upper-case! :) As for re-thinking the name, I don't think so... it's one abbreviation no one will forget! (But, yes, I know I will get e-mails from people asking for my help with their POOP.) Anyway, it's available for sale at my website, and when approved and added it will be available here at the Marketplace. Enjoy the POOP! :-) --John

I went through the drawn-out process of converting the 3DS Boba Fett (with textures) into some conforming props. The figure here is based on Anthony Appleyard's worksuit man. Looks halfway decent, but I am not sure whether it can be shared, derived, as it is, from the 3DCafe model.... I will be happy to share it if it can be shared....

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

As long as you didn't pay anything for it, I'm sure it would be okay to convert to Poser format and offer it in the Free Stuff. Just be sure to give the original author credit for making it (and you get credit for converting it). In general, I believe that it's probably okay to re-distribute a "converted" free item as long as you don't make money off it AND you give everyone their proper credit. --John
