Yeah, file size shouldn't be a problem. It could be the actual file. Try translating the .3ds into something else and then importing it into Bryce. Bryce is sometimes a little pickey with .3ds and .obj's. Try using Crossroads (link) to change it to .obj or .dxf, etc. Or, even export it again as a .3ds, see if that will magically "fix" it for Bryce. Agent Smith

I don't know about .3ds either. But I can import a .dxf that's about 2.89 MB. Bryce freezes if it's much over that. Sometimes it surprises me, though, and will bring in a larger file. (That's usually when I've left the room and ignored what I thought was a frozen app. You know, the "watched monitor" syndrome.) I immediately export it as a .3ds to bring the file size down.
Yeah, also an unfortunate thing Bryce can/will do is "look" as if it is frozen during a large file import or even a long render. Ctrl+Alt+Delete will also show it as "not responding", even though it is till just loading/rendering. Go watch That 70's Show, then come back and see what's up. "A watched computer never loads"

I've had some experiences like this. I don't know for sure, but I think the amount of RAM can be the problem. When I got more RAM i was able to import more complex files. Also I've noticed that .cob-file import very quickly. Much faster than .3DS and .dxf files. I seams like a more stable import too, since I've been able to import a 2 milion poly test-file in .cob format but it crashed at 30% in .dxf format.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try crossroads.

What is the max file size for a 3DS file that bryce can import and display. I have a 289kb file that shows up great but a 1.5 meg file that does not show up at all. So I
ll just bet it
s between those somewhere. Thanks Frank HawkinsFrank Hawkins/Owner/DigitalDaydreams
