Subject: From the deep blue sea, a new creature, comments welcome.

Here's a non-lethal pic of my newest creature. The 4 tentacles on the top of the head are add-ons, so they can be placed anywhere. The mouth has some open-close/stretch morphs. Comming soon to bbay. Comments welcome as usual. Davo

What are you using to model these? How long does it take you? You are prolific! Looks good, too.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

I use a combination of programs, Organica, Rhino for the modeling and Poser and UVmapper to finish the job. It's kind of a tedious process and it can take anywhere from 1 to 3 days to make an object. It's hard to gage the time since it's an hour here and an hour there. I'd say I have about 6-12 hours per figure. I'm picky about how things look, I'll be 70 percent done and decide to start over since I don't like the way a head or chest looks. I'm glad you think they look good. Davo

Delightfully loathesome and nightmarish, as usual! :-) It is interesting how you do these things. I can only sculpt in clay and cast aluminum wire/foam rubber puppets, but I wish I wasn't CG-impaired!

Talos: sigh I wish I could sculpt in clay and cast aluminum wire/foam rubber puppets, but alas, I am puppet impaired. I have tried my hand at sculpy, in fact, you'll laugh at this but I used to make a bunch of body parts with sculpy, video capture that part, cut/paste those images into a photopaint image to create goolish creatures. Then I thought man if I could make these parts in 3d then I could drop the video grab method, then the rest is history. If you can get a hold of Organica, it's a start. Organica is where I make the body parts for my creatures. It's a metaballs modeler so when you add 2 or more shapes together, they goop onto each other like they were covered with a thick paste. It's a snap to use, a little primative (it's first version and I don't hold my breath for a new version) and not too expensive. Davo

Thanks Davo! I will copy that down. I actually have access to Truspace 4, but it's a little complicated, and I'm a SLOW learner. Is Organica easier than Truspace? I used to sculpt a clay head on a wooden artist mannequin, take a polaroid, colorize the pictue on my computer, and paste the image on the head of a Poser 1 render. The results are best forgotten. I cast a bust of King Kong in resin, and a "garage kit" of the Id monster from Forbidden Planet. Maybe I will post them to one of the galleries.

Organica is very privative and easy. It has 4 viewports, front/side/top and one viewport that shows finished product. It's got a bunch of premade shapes (ball square cylindar and a host of other shapes. You drop one of the shapes into the view port, add another shape or the same shape, whatever, the closer they are to each other, the more "attracted" they become. You can deform the shapes one at a time. You can export in different formats (not obj) The program lacks a lot of frills (ortho mode for one). Here's a link.
