Subject: New (almost!) convert with some questions...

I downloaded the Vue demo today, and it looks like a great alternative to Bryce. But I have a few questions that maybe the full-version people can answer for me. 1) I'm using Poser Pro Pack, and I cannot import a PZ3 file, I keep getting errors that it cannot be opened. Is this because of ProPack, or the demo? Will PP scenes import into the latest patched version of the full product Vue? 2) Can you create your own terrain meshes and save them into Vue for use later? Same question about foliage? Not just as an object import, but actually saving it into the drop-down list? 3) Love, love, LOVE the look of the water... but can you animate it? Say I wanted a puddle to splash up on somebody... can it be done? I'll keep playing with it to try and figure out some answers myself, but I wanted some owners to tell me their experiences, too. Hi Tilandra, 1) I don't own Pro Pack. here somebody else will answer to you. I import Pz3 files fine and also the bum (In the full updated Vue 4.05-02 version). 2) Yes! Every terrain you create, you can "save object" in a folder you may create and then show it up in the object list with thumbs. You can do this also with any imported object. When you do so, terrains and objects are automatically converted to *.vob files. You can create your own trees and plants with scanned or drawed leaves and save them as *.vob. Tutorials, alternate leaves and more are available at my place: http://membres.lycos.fr/arte/ and at Varian's dreamview: http://www.varian.net/dreamview/ 3) Yes, you can animate every thing in Vue. Water, clouds, objects. The Vue 4 CD contains samples for that. You can create watersplashes (have to create it by your own, this can be done in the terrain editor or in a paint program and then imported into Vue). Have more questions ? we are here to answer:-) Guitta

Hi Tilandra and welcome !

The full version of VUE imports "static" poser scene perfectly from POSER standard and POSER PRO-PACK.
Maybe the demo of VUE doesn't allow this...

Hi Tilandra, I do have Poser Propack, and can confirm that Vue does import PZ3s (and PZZs too) in both the demo and full versions. Reflection maps have not worked correctly though, I`m going to try different formats for them and see if this helps. Propack has been upgraded too, service release 3 is the latest. Do you have this ? If not it might solve your problem. Good luck, Mark

Hello Tilandra, You already got some pretty good answers here, but just to be nmore specific, Vue can animate water, yes, but it's the material (procedural) which gets animated, and not the water itself. You can make a pretty decent water splash with the terrain editor and a water material, but since you can't really "deform" the terrian in a more traditional sence, like you could with, say metaballs, you would also have to rely heavily on animated materials to get the effect. As for the poser import thing, I do believe the demo allows for it, but I'm not 100% certain. There have been a few people with the problem you describe. E-on's official answer for this is to find your "poser.exe" file and rename it in Widows explorer to poser.exe Yes, same name and not a typo, but for some strange reason that has worked for people. Doing that will in no way "harm" your Poser install, and is perfectly safe. Another thing is, Vue cannot import a Poser object if Poser is still open at the time. Why? I have no idea, but that's the way it is, unfortunately. Maybe because it has to read something in the .exe file? So if you've had Poser running when you've tried, that is probably the reason for the error.
