Genny, for me, at least, Vue 4.05 was the first patch that allowed me to use Poser .bum files, but not the older ones. For example, the .bum files in Neftis' Casual Hair will load, but the original Zygote Victoria .bum files will not. I have no idea why, but that's the best I can come up with. Make yourt own test file and load it into Poser as a bump map, and see if that will import. Newer ones which I make, will work. It doesn't seem to make any sense, really. :/ That's with Win 98 SE, by the way.
That would be consistent with my observation that "newer" ones work, since Victoria is at least a year older than Michael... I think. The Zygote Dragon .bum files won't import either. I'm really starting to think that it's only .bum files which were created in Poser 4.03 (as opposed to Poser 4.0) that will work. I really don't know. I keep trying to find a connection, and all I've discovered is that newer ones work, and older ones don't. shrug
I had Poser 3, but no file, it seems, what has a bum. I have just an idea. If you rename your "old" bum files into "bmp". Then open your people or animal in Poser4 and apply the renamed bmp file as a bump map (will be converted then) and try to save PZ3 this way ??? It may work. I only have the Raptor from Poser 3 Zygote, but it has no bum file?? Guitta
Ok, I tried saving several models as Pz3's and it appears you are correct Mike, the newer ones don't give me the error message about the bum files being invalid...........so, I have to think that they worked? And Guitta, I tried opening the material editor and all I get are the materials that are native to vue, which end up changing my material to what was in the window when I opened it? Did you import the map first so it shows in the screen as you have posted above? Maybe, I am missing something here? In anycase, I like to thank you both for taking the time to reply, and when I have more time. I will play around some more and see what happens. Take care all and have a great day. Genny
Genny, Yes, you are missing something, but not for longer:-) To change material on Poser figures (and anyhow), have a look at the icons in the top menu. There is one with 3 little spheres decreasing in size. Click at it and you will open the material summary what shows you all the materials used in your scene. There you can change each material individually in double-clicking on its window:-) Guitta
OH WOW........I didn't know what that was for! LOL! Thank you, Guitta, I tried it, and the file I used did have the bum! Success, at Last! You know, you really made my day! (: I didn't think I could love Vue anymore than I already did, but I do now........unfortunately, there is this thing called "work" that always seems to get between us. So, for now, thanks again and take care. Genny

Hi All, Well, I finally got up enough nerve to load the patch, 4.05, and so far no problems.........BUT........Vue4 will still not reconize bum files from Poser as valid? Why? Why? Why? I am running Windows XP, and have to turn off the open GL.........would this have anything to do with it? Genny
