I'm glad you won out though. Very nice picture. I wasn't sure who/what to expect G. One of my first dogs was called Wendy (a black standard poodle) and SHE was named for Wendy of Peter Pan fame, so those were my 'references'. This Wendy is a beautiful windblown serious young woman-the hair is wonderful. Did you say you did it 'the old fashioned way'? Did you use the transmap curls as the base first? And--the clothing is lovely--I assume nozzles and brushes. Diane B
I had the texture on it from the trans curls, I did not get all the files so what is on the hair comes up as rather metalic looking, even if I push the transparancy up...soo...I just drew in the hair, but then I used layers alternating with different nozzles, or pen patterns set very small; adjusted procedural then transparancy until I built up the hair. Then used the "glow" with different colors. Strange but this has the snake belly, boa, thorns, redwood, stained wood patterns among others, all giving a rather interesting hair effect. By the way the hair is on crooked, could not get the hair to stay with the head...well when you got lemons make lemonade...
Lorraine, I already commented in the gallery before I got here, but just wanted to say she is nearly perfect. What's missing is a good eyelash transparency. The best I've found is the one with the Nene character (either one)which is quite realistic. Hope that helps. Now, why can't I make images like that when Poser plays tricks on me? :)
Thank you for the nice comments. Kalypso I appreciate your comment and if you look closely you will see how my 'puter rendered my transparancy map, it turned out to be white on black...when I tried to change the transparancy by checking the box, the whole head turned black with white eyelashes! I know better than to mess with the computer gnome, but I magnified the eyes with the idea to put in the eyelashes by hand and the dreaded c-exception came up....poof all gone..and no I had not saved except at an early stage. So over and over I did this one..saving after each layer...I just figure the eyelashes are how this image wanted them...but I agree it should be better with transparancies applied....maybe tomorrow....:-)
There are almost too many good things in this picture to list. The less obvious one is the nice transparent sweater. I'm curious to know how you did this, since you explained everything else perfectly. (Is it something real obvious like a Free Stuff download I missed?) The color of the sweater compliments the hair beautifully. -Talos the Impressed
Ok, the sweater is drawn on, I started with fibers drawn over the figure in a criss-cross pattern like a weave. I used some pattern pens with color in them, I think like the zebra moth one, then I used the yarn pattern pen. I just looped the strokes in roughly a manner that I felt reminded me of a loose weave of a knit or crochet; I should mention that this was on two separate layers for the threads and the yarn so I could adjust the transparancy. Because I usually put a final lighting to tie things together more I put yarn strokes for trim and left it to go on for the hair and other things. I usually do the clothes first so when I do get to the hair it is done over the top of it. Since there was not a lot of area to deal with I just drew it in, if it was larger or more of the body shape was visible I think I would use the clothes then draw in afterwards because I could follow the underlying shadow and creases. Again one "new" idea that I am using is not to depend on the use of same type pens, nozzles or strokes. I am taking totally unrelated patterns and forcing myself to improvise with them; I have used glow and sparkle down real small to get some real nice detail on cloth or make the eye look at the "idea" of fabric. In other words I am using the tree nozzle to make a green stem, using the nozzle very small and painting with it. Does that make sense?
Sure does! Aha! I suspected it was something clever. It looked like there was a new sweater with transparency map to download in Free Stuff. (And you think you're not good at tutorials.) I've got to save my money so I can try this "nozzle" business. You sure have developed a special talent for that program.
