Subject: Why is Renderosity very slow?

DreamstoGo ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 12:40 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 3:52 PM

It seems like the last few months it takes 5 times as long to run.I have a FAST roadrunner connection. Months ago the pages would load fast, wham bam!,A lot of images aren't getting viewed by LOTS of people, I have to pick and choose thumbs because of the viewing time. Is renderosity going to speed up their connections? hopefully

Sometimes its really very slow, got DSL 2 months ago,but switching from one page to another ,or going to the galleries is really pain. once the picture loads its fast but till it loads....

I use a standard dial 56K modem and I have only noticed that for the last couple of days, the site has been really dragging. I mean it is moving slow. Haven't really visited the galleries because it take so much time to load.

I have noticed in the past couple days, load times just switching from one forum to another can take up to a minute and a half! I'm using a cable modem, so you're not alone. Tilandra

posted a reply , hit the "Post Reply" button, took 90 seconds till the reply was posted. And, yes , the last few days its getting worse

And I thought it was just me and my creaky dial-up connection...Yikes! You know what this means?!...The Poser Gremlin is finally showing his true colours! ARGHHHHH!!! ;-) Dave :-)

It seems to be getting worst today as the day goes on. It is taking longer and longer for pages to open and for things to load. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Have we reached the overload point! DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER. MELT DOWN IN PROGRESS! FEE FOR YOUR LIVES! THE FLOOD WATERS ARE RISING! THE SKY IS FALLING! WATCH OUT FOR THE KILLER DUCKS!!!!!! Sorry but I panic so easily these days for some reason. ;}

I oticed it was really slow and then looked at the members online .. 1500 almost. Not it is a few hours later and it is a little quicker with less people.

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 2:53 PM

Yup, getting slower and slower. I am dsl and have checked other sites and checked my speed by doing downloads from different servers, so I know it isn't on my end. Marque

Just got DSL yesterday and a new iMac last week. Rest of the web is now lightning fast.... Then there's 'Rosity (!#!!*!) !!! This is by far my favorite site on the whole internet, but jeez Louise... SLOW hardly describes it--more like GLACIAL Can't something be done to reverse this trend?

starmkr ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 3:57 PM

I thought it was just my T-1 line...but with 1400 users online you would be slow too downloading viewing, buying, free stuff shopping...Thank for being here for all of use.

hogwarden ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 4:31 PM

Having a seriously bad time here too. I'm trying to get PoserBooost Betas out to the testers and my e-mails are getting rejected. Tried posting it to my site, but the dl was running at 0.3k/s. Poo. Rosity spped does increase when there are fewer users online... In the mornings UK time when there are 700 ish users online it's ok. But now... 1323. I'm going to click "Post Reply" and sit back... :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 5:44 PM

I'm getting very good at FreeCell while waiting for pages to load. Maybe I ought to bring my mending in here? No, that would displace the cat. Sigh. Carolly

Tilandra ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 5:54 PM

Lol Carolly... I have two myself. And now we know the real reason for keeping the R'osity magazine by the 'puter. ;) Tilandra

I got a couple of anime tapes in the VCR and A anime DVD in the player. I switch back and forth watching them. I gone through my STNG tapes. Mulan my Shar Pei likes to lay in my lap too. She just gets a little too heavy after a short while. Poor Baby can't understand why I keep putting her down. I used to hold her all the time when she was puppy.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 6:21 PM

During the slow times, I usually browse a few other sites, read some online comics, etc., while waiting for a R'osity page to load.

smerc ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 6:48 PM

Renderosity has determined that the site is not slow. Rather that your modem buffer is probably clogged with zeros. Gently tap the side of you computer and the zeros should pop out of the buffer. tap tap

Philywebrider ( ) posted Mon, 08 April 2002 at 7:09 PM

What does Renderosity say?

ShatterX ( ) posted Wed, 17 April 2002 at 2:43 PM

You would think by now that they would have come up with at least some sort of answer.

firefly ( ) posted Wed, 17 April 2002 at 3:30 PM

smerc, you're too funny (grinning) I also find Renderosity very slow, both from a cable connection and a T1 connection. Seems to me that Renderosity is using Apache servers which are fine, just not quite "beefy" enough for an enterprise sized hosting situation and traffic patterns! Could also be their pipeline is stuffed with all those extra 1's & 0's (smiles)time for a "burstable" solution me thinks! hmm, I suppose it could also be..... I'm just speculating about all the above. Will be interesting to see what we learn are the reasons! The best part though? In spite of the slowness, we all keep coming back :) What a wonderfully determined bunch we are ;)

With my lousy dialup connection, I just always assume it's me. But then I remember to check the numbers on line as well as the time of day. And when it's really, really, really bad, I check the Internet Traffic Report (attached link). Doesn't speed things up any, but it usually turns out that the whole internet is a mess, and then I can usually stop blaming myself or Rosity ;-)

Varian ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2002 at 12:01 PM

Renderosity will be down today beginning 3pm CST to 4pm CST [15:00 - 16:00] (GMT -6). They are planning a hardware upgrade to add more capacity to the servers and will try to keep it within that hour. :)
