Subject: Okay, someone's got some 'splainin' to do, folks!

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:09 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:24 PM

This morning, I posted the results of studying two light sets at the request of some of the members around here, and I find the entire thread deleted. No one even bothered so much as to send me a little note to say, "Uh, gee, Sean, we really wish you wouldn't do that sort of thing." Do one of the board monitors want to actually deal with this honestly and tell me WTF that thread is gone? There was a considerable amount of time and research put into it, and you guys just erase it without saying a word? Not impressed, Sparky. Not one bit. So what gives? And it damn well better be plausible.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:16 PM

Umm, you may want to go over the the copyrights forum and see if it hasn't turned up there... just a thought ;) /P

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:18 PM

bah! thrill of the chase in a rousing game of "who gets to poke fun at VS first?" that produced all the typoes. Dang. (BTW, VS: it is sitting comfortably over in JenyK territory.) /P

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:20 PM

If they're gonna move a thread like that, they should at least have the decency to let people know. That's just simple common courtesy. And particularly since that issue impacts a lot of Poser people around here, many of whom don't go to that particular forum. If the admins want to move something out of here, fine. But at least have the courtesy to post something so we all know.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:21 PM

bah! thrill of the chase in a rousing game of "who gets to poke fun at VS first?" that produced all the typoes. Amongst the potatoes... or potatos? :)

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:22 PM

True, true... though whenever Micheleh bumped a thread of mine out of the OT forum, I never knew about it either until I started kicking and cursing... /P

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:24 PM

Oh, yeah, and where I come from, it's "taters." /P

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 5:30 PM

And just south of me, it's "spuds". :) Found it, BTW. And it was fairly lame in response from the admins here, which frankly surprised me. We seem to be Johnny-on-the-Spot when someone comes in asking for warez sites for Vicky, but in this case, the official response seems to be "Well, what do you want us to do?" Fairly pathetic, IMHO. Oh well. Guess all we can do is notify folks when that link shows up in the threads again.

Hiram ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 6:25 PM

How the hell does something get bumped out of the OT forum???

Penguinisto ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 6:31 PM

Ask Micheleh... she did it to me twice. (seriously... both of 'em got bumped to the copyright forum.) /P

Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 6:47 PM

It got bumped out of the Off Topic forum 'cause it was On topic for another one! Weird :) It's good to know about the light thing - the part that I find strange about the whole things is that the original light set was selling for what, five bucks? Bizarre. Lyrra

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 7:11 PM

Ten, actually. And no doubt worth it. But I don't think we can look at the ticket price and say, Okay, we'll deal with this Vickie warez infraction today and that one tomorrow because it's so pathetically small and cheap. That's just not good form.

PabloS ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 7:14 PM

Do the Forum Police have their laws...err...rules published somewhere? Something like this happened to me a couple of days ago but the topic was rather trivial so I didn't bother complainin'.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 7:23 PM

Best thing to do is contact an admin, Pablo. Let them know what's going on, then stay on it till they get back to you with something.

JeffH ( ) posted Thu, 11 April 2002 at 8:30 PM

If it's off topic to the forum it will be moved. -JH.

Kendra ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 12:14 AM

"If it's off topic to the forum it will be moved."

Then at least have the courtesy to mention where to. Is that too much to ask? The light comparison was on topic for Poser, perhaps more on topic for Copyright but I just went looking for it in Poser and wasted my time.

The link in the ebot will take you to the thread no matter where it is. -JH.

No offense, Jeff... but the ebot will only do so for people who have posted in the thread already, which accounts for about 5 or 6 people. ;) The rest of us had to track it down the old-fashioned way... For anyone still interested, here's the link. Regards, Paul

aleks ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 1:01 AM

since html magicians at rosity are unable to produce "watch this thread" button (promised some year ago), i guess some notice would just be simple decency...

Slynky ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 1:09 AM

wouldn't it be easier to lock the thread after posting a message at the end of the thread that the thread in its entirety has been moved to a separate forum? I mean, wouldn't that save the trouble of all the bitching that the admins get in this forum when they pull stuff like that? If its off topic, lock it, THEN move it, poof, it took an extra 8 seconds or so. this of course will likely fall on deaf ears, but what the hay, worth a shot.

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 1:28 AM

No locking the thread would prevent people from posting to it...the thread actually is "Moved" to the proper forum.

Slynky ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 2:19 AM

ok, then how about a simple post "This thread has been moved to such and such a forum," in a new thread after you move the culprit to its proper place? Even less work actually, u don't have to click the lock button that way.

zardoz ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 2:56 AM

Though one can get banned for a harmless joke here, it seems that witchhunts and lynchmobs are still desired here. What a lame procedure! If you can't attack a member, attack those who are banned because besides that you don't get problems with the admins here, these (ex) members also can't defense themselves. I would appreciate it, if this stuff could stay in the OT forum or if not even they want these treads, create a forum for hassling and bashing of banned members. The copyright forum is sort of helpfull if one have a serious question, so IMO it should not be missused for such pathetic stuff. As for moving threads, guess it would be helpful to have a kind of note where the threads are gone. Maybe eBot could do this job, something like this: "This automated message is to let you know that the thread ' the ongoing witchhunt ' was moved here link " just my 0.02 Thomas

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 6:01 AM

My best suggestion to anyone wanting to keep track of a thread is to get involved and post to it.

De-lurk, enable those e-bots, and watch the in-box.

-JH.

aleks ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 7:30 AM

someone said (if i may quote correctly): "blessed is the one who having nothing to say, abstaines from giving in words evidence of the fact." :) that is, i'd still like "watch this thread" button.

Slynky ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 11:00 AM

once again, it would save you lot of hassle Admins if you just post a single thread in the original forum that a thread was moved. I don't see what the fucking fuss is about, is it that difficult? Look at the amount of messages you've posted to this thread. Now, erase all these messages, go back in time, and post a note saying a thread was moved there, and poof, this thread wouldn't have even existed.

Kendra ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 11:07 AM

I disable the ebot when I do post. I don't need a ton of emails flooding my inbox.

I guess this little bit of courtesy really is too much to ask for. What would it take? An extra 10 seconds?

"these (ex) members also can't defense themselves. I would appreciate it, if this stuff could stay in the OT forum or if not even they want these treads, create a forum for hassling and bashing of banned members." yeah wtf ever. bebop was banned because hes an asshole that refuses to grow up. he was banned again and again and again because instead of learning from his mistakes he chooses to compound them in his ever-escalating attacks. the TOS prohibits attacks on present members. bebop is no longer, and never again shall be a member, so i feel comfortable in calling him an asshole, which he has repeatedly established himself to be. if he wanted to defend himself, he could do so with one of the dozens of aliases that he has created to continue his attacks on me and others at rosity, repeatedly troll my gallery, and post links to his warez-hosting site. "The copyright forum is sort of helpfull if one have a serious question, so IMO it should not be missused for such pathetic stuff." wtf do you think this is? you dont think that someone ripping off my store item and hosting it on their site is 'serious' enough for you? i cant wait until you become a merchant and bring an issue into the copyright forum, rest assured that ill be there to remind you of your own words. "Though one can get banned for a harmless joke here.." if you think that he was banned for a 'harmless joke', you are sadly mistaken, and i think you should educate yourself with the facts before you post comments like the one above. my 0.02 -gabriel

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 5:42 PM

Please, no personal attacks on current or FORMER members.

Thanks,

Blackhearted ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 5:56 PM

ah, is this a new addendum to the TOS then, jeff? shambles off to read the new TOS

Blackhearted ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 6:07 PM

wow, that everchanging chameleon of a TOS never ceases to amaze me. now it just says 'members will not use this community for personal attacks'. doesnt say 'upon present members' any more. hmm.. so, i cant even say something like: 'bill gates is a dick'? interesting. alright jeff, i wont make any more personal attacks. its just that this person never seems to smarten up and stay gone, and ive been trying to stay indifferent to all these attacks but it does build up after a few months to a point where i need to vent. his little friends that come and defend him, after his actions are there in black and white for everyone to see, make me laugh though. sure, lets make him into a bloody martyr now. the poor guy. and all he wants to do is to give away his wonderful free poser goodies out of love and caring to all of the renderosity members. BS. everyone seems to forget the fact that all of the 'free' items hes using now to buy their ass-kissing support were in the marketplace at astronimocal prices until he was banned from rosity and thereby was unable to sell them. what a sweetheart. cheers, -gabriel

JeffH ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 6:11 PM

I dunno, is Bill Gates a current or former member of Renderosity?

Blackhearted ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 6:12 PM

you tell me, youre the admin :) btw - if he is, can i have his IP address? thx in advance jeff, cheers, -gabriel

Micheleh ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 7:10 PM

Did someone mention my name? Yes, I have moved several threads to the copyrights forum because I thought they could get better answers there. No, I didn't make a post saying "this thread moved" because, frankly, I never thought of it. I always get ebots for everything, and it didn't occur to me. (Not being much of a lurker, and not being afraid to jump right in a thread, like this one- hi, Jeff!) If that's what people would consider proper courtesy, though, I'll try to do that in the future.

"wow, that everchanging chameleon of a TOS never ceases to amaze me. now it just says 'members will not use this community for personal attacks'. doesnt say 'upon present members' any more"

Does this mean that if Bebob/zoeloves posts a link to the light sets again, we, in defense of Blackharted, can't let newbies know he's a thief? I mean, if Renderosity won't stand up for Blackharted then the members who care about such things should be able to.

Kendra, Yes you can, as long as it's not a attack on members.

Entropic ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 12:05 AM

It seems a little wierd this thread is still an issue... First of all, the actual thread that matters was moved, and while no link was provided by admin, someone, out of the kindeness of their heart, took the time to post the link... who was it that did that? Oh, wait... it was me. Also, this isn't really a matter of a thread that was moved to quiet it down or suppress it, it was moved to that forum because, undeniably, JenyK is the person to deal with it. One of my threads was moved there, too, awhile back, and I'm rather glad that I got the feedback from the person who's actually appointed to deal with those matters officially. Also, Jeff: There's something to be said for precedent. Several weeks ago I posted on a thread that made some pretty harsh statements about bebop/virchual/zoeloves. They were quite obviously a personal attack, and so I IMed Spike to ask if it was acceptable, or if I should delete reword my post. As far as I know, that post still stands in the original thread, and there has never been a complaint to me about it, on the grounds that the individual I was making an attack against was no longer a member here, and had repeatedly acted in ways that, I felt, necessitated a calling out. In retrospect, that post of mine was out of bounds, but, in Blackhearted's defense, bear in mind he's working from the assumption that it was acceptable before. Lately, there have been a lot of changes in rosity administration, and a lot of shuffling of mod's and admin's positions that is affecting various TOS interpretations. Perhaps it would be incumbent for the mods and admins to use their own channels to develop some sort of concensus or guidelines to what was the proper interpretation. Don't think I'm bagging on you folks... I think you're doing a fine job... But from the member's side of things, it gets a bit tough to know in all circumstances what's ok and what's not. Most people shouldn't ever have a problem with the variations in interpretation from forum to forum, but those who do are probably also going to be the ones who speak out the loudest when they feel they've been stepped on, regardless of whether or not there was actually a stepping on involved. Well, I'm broke, so... no $.02 from me... Regards, Paul

Entropic ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 12:06 AM

P.S.: I have no idea where the post I made attacking bebop/virchual/zoeloves/whoever was... it was a month ago, but if anyone bumps into it, feel free to IM me and I'll delete it. Paul

zardoz ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 2:48 AM

BH wrote: "yeah wtf ever. bebop was banned because hes an asshole [yada, yada..]" Guess we allready had this issue. Though neither you nor this thread is worth to repeat my opinion and run me into problems here, I hope you remember my point of view. Guess that's on of these moments where I'm glad that even at 'rosity thoughts are still free. :: evil grin :: "wtf do you think this is? [...] " I think that a certain member misuse the forums here for his own little crusade against an (ex) member. This isn't my bussines, if the owners here think it's a good idea to let the members have their monthly witchhunt, each to his own. But I would prefer not to see this crap in helpful topic fora. So my suggestion was to put this kind of threads in an appropriate forum. "i cant wait until you become a merchant and bring an issue .." LOL, personally I would prefer to contact the site admin via email, instead of starting a lynchmob. And I'm really amazed that one can claim a copyright for a light setting. "if you think that he was banned for a 'harmless joke'..." I was refering to what happens to Mehndi, PJF, Entropic and others. My Point was that I don't think that it is particularly fair to ban these members for making harmless jokes (and the like) while others are allowed to start a wichhunt here. I don't think that lynchmobs, personal feuds in public fora or insults of (ex)members will "...facilitate a culture of collaboration and positive reinforcement ..", but that's just my opinion and maybe I'm wrong. :: shrug :: regards Thomas

Entropic ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 3:14 AM

While I appreciate your outrage over my banning, and admit that at the time I was pretty outraged, too, this has little do with what's going on. First of all, I'm not gonna let that topic get dragged up again, because it's been sufficiently put to rest by all involved parties, and has no place here. I know there are a thousand fanatics ready to lynch the admin and run screaming through the streets, but, frankly, it's no one else's damn business. You can't seriously be suggesting that BH is starting a lynch mob, and then broach that whole wierd-ass topic again in the same post, without considering the results, can you? Secondly, Blackhearted didn't start this issue... It was originally opened by bebop under the nick of virchual, then later reopened by one of BH's customers who noticed similarities, then again opened by bebop under his virchual nick, and most recently opened by VirtualSite. As for BlackHearted's "crusade", and I'm not sure he'd welcome my speaking out on this for him, but who cares, he's actually avoided the bulk of what's been going on, only having stepped in ( so far as I can see ) when someone was publically posting against him on matters that he felt were untrue. As far as witchhunts are concerned, there isn't one, zardoz. Bebop/virchual/zoeloves/whatever nick he thinks of next has already been banned. Furthermore, he/she/it continues to come back to this site, and attack members. If those members being subjected to the attacks speak up and say, "Hey, bebop's back!" It's not a witchhunt, it's a call for administrative action. Frankly, I'd be ticked if action wasn't taken in this case. Regards, Paul Btw: After reviewing the other thread ( link above ) it wasn't BH that started the issue, and it wasn't BH who posted links, and asked for zoeloves ( bebop's newest nick ) to be banned. All that BH DID do is get really pissed in public. Who wouldn't in the same position?

Entropic ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 3:19 AM

On two side notes: #1: I have no idea why my last post is in italics. #2: As long as threads are getting shuffled around, I notice this one has diverged completely from the original topic of "Why was a thread moved?" to something else ( I'm not sure what ). Does that mean this thread will get moved to the OT forum? ( If it does, I apologize in advance to the mods over there ) *8^> Regards, Paul P.S.: If it DOES get moved, please post a brief note to let me know where to... I get over 100 ebot messages a day and don't really want to sift through them all.

zardoz ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 4:25 AM

I'm sorry Entropic if my post was OT, but as far as I get it, the topic is a complain that a thread was moved to the copyright forum. I agreed, though for the reason that I don't think it's a good idea to spam a topic forum with this kind of threads. .....so what? BTW, I also agree that leaving a message in the initial forum about where the thread is gone is a good idea and shouldn't be to hard to accomplish by the mods. I'm not particullary interested in personal feuds of other members, but as post #28 was addressed directly to me I thought it was okay to answer, sorry if this wasn't desired. As a last suggestion, maybe we could have a "moved thread" forum so if one miss a thread he just have to look into this forum instead of searching the whole site :). (just kidding) regards Thomas
