Subject: Looking for utility

LdyMox ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 6:49 AM · edited Thu, 19 December 2024 at 5:51 AM

Ok on making MATs I relised that if you have the propack you don't need to have a PNG and a RSR for the same item. Is there any utility out there that scans your poser folders and checks to see if you have both files and deletes the extra RSR files?

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 10:02 AM

If you're on a PC, just use "start/find files or folders" and put '*.rsr' into the search box. Might take a few minutes to find them all. Then you can just delete them! :)

IMPORTANT!!! Only delete the RSRs in the library folders. Leave all the others alone! There are important ones in the geometries folder and other Poser folders!

LdyMox ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 10:28 AM

Yea was doing something like that. Except I'll delete needed ones if I don't check to make sure there's a PNG file first. p.s. opps I deleted all the RSRs in my geometries folder thinking they were redundant.

If you're using ProPack the geometry files are read right from the obj. So you can safely delete the rsr files :) Sassy

LdyMox, P3dO Explorer - the Poser file manager - has a Rsr2Png and Png2Rsr converter plugin. This plugin has an option enabling to delete redundant files - not exactly what you ask for but it's a cleaner. If you don't know P3dO you need to download P3dO from my web page, or freestuff there, and then go to SENO to get the latest version of Rsr2Png plugin (on the Downloads page). Yarp

I have the program. The easiest thing maybe to convert all the RSR files to PNG and then I can delete all the RSR. Heheh I am just trying to save space. I'll have to try that rundant file cleaner thing. Great program by the way!

Hi ya LdyMox! The Yarp fellow here is one of my favorite peoples! He and his great utility have saved me from tearing out my hair on many occasions. I believe that the only RSR file that you absolutely do not want to mess with is that POSER.RSR in the main file folder. The rest of the little dickenses can be ELIMINATED!!! hehehe

nikitacreed ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 12:14 PM

I regularly delete all the RSR files out of my geometries folder. They start to take up alot of space after awhile and on my PC they seem to like getting corrupted. So I just clean them out and let Poser rebuild them. ;o) Didn't know about that little redundant file cleaner in P3d0 yarp! Thanks!

LdyMox ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 1:44 PM

Hmm I can't seem to find that option you mentioned(delete reduant files)

LdyMox ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 1:44 PM

steveshanks ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 2:05 PM

LdyMox, as I said to you there a NEW release of Rsr2Png with that clean option. Nikitacreed, It's new, it's hot, just 3 days time (Rsr2Png release 1.0.4). And also I added a filter to Rsr2Png and an invert Alpha channel option to help repair from earlier Rsr2Png bug. Ok, LdyMox I give you the link so that you can download the new release of Rsr2Png. This one has the "Remove original file after conversion" option. I don't release new products immediately at 'sity cause I like to have some hits on my web page. I'm a human ;))

One thing I noticed is if I try to use the browse subfolders method to see for example all the files under faces and try to convert rsr to png it seems to only do the first folder. Maybe I am doing something wrong..

yarp ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 3:49 PM

Yeh, I know it's frustrating. You did nothing wrong, Rsr2Png was made before the browse subfolder and I didn't took time to upgrade it. It's an improvement to come and I'm well aware it is necessary. It is planned with next Rsr2Png release, probably this summer, Sorry.

Ok thanks! I appericate the work unyway. I am sure many do :)

nikitacreed ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 4:28 PM

LOL! Now I know why I couldn't find it. heh Going to get the new version! Thanks yarp!

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2002 at 4:37 PM

Yep... I was just just erring on the side of caution as Poser is not the only application which uses .rsr files...

yarp ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 12:23 AM

That's why she should use my cleaner. Rsr2Png only removes the .rsr file, if .rsr to .png conversion is succesfull. This way you just have to tell the converter to convert and delete and let it do. The remaining .rsr will be those who are not image ones ;))
