When you say "original texture" do you mean an actual image of the moon? Perhaps it is the lighting that's making it look unusual. Have you tried using just the texture map w/o the bump. (or for that matter just the bump map on a white or gray surface) It has a "rough" appearance that gives it the illusion of being closer than it is. (The cloud thing enhances that)

Hi Vue users, I've redone my Blue Moon Pic...because of some constructive critics in the past. The halo around the moon was done with the sky map feature of Vue d'Esprit. Comments are welcome... Henrik
