Subject: copyright concerns

Hi all I've been working on emc/erc enabling the standard clothes for posette and dork, I was just wondering what sort of issues there would be if I made them available as freebies. I know I can't include the obj files but is that the only thing that could cause problems?

Other than textures (which is not a concern here), the only other thing I recall seeing in any discussion is geometries. How were you thinking of distribution? PCF? Seems I saw something that MOR pose files might be able to do this too and would be a much smaller file.

Yes mor pose files can handle this and would be the way to go since the changes are actually to the CR2. Following this, since you will nto be distributing any of the geometry, you won't be breaking any copyrights.

wonderful :) now I have to learn how to make MOR poses, I wonder if cr2edit would be able to do the job?

ok MOR files only work with morph targets that are already there, SO if I use a MOR file on a figure without the morph targets nothing happens, I suppose because the morph targets I want to use come from the posette geom I can't distribute the cr2 that is created even though everyone who would be using it already has them by default

Rattler, yes in practise MOR files are just dial settings, but they can be so much more. In theary, you could actually embed you new Morph in a MOR file along with it's dials. THis way you will actually be adding the morph to the character when you import the MOR file. Now I am not sure exactly how this may affect the character as you will be adding a dial after it is loaded but I don't think it will be a problem. Another advantage if this works will be the fact that you could then actually give a name to the morph dial and KNOW that it will retian that name when added to a character.

now I'm sure that was never mentioned in the manual, sounds good tho, hopefully someone will find out how to do it and spread the work, every time I think I've heard everything there is to hear about poser someone discovers something else the designers never thought of. I can't wait for the next big thing.

Yeah well, I'm going to have to test it and see if it is even possible. There is one disadvantage though. If a morph imported in a MOR file has the same name for the same body part as an existing morph in the CR2 I do believe you will end up with an unusable character. This is due to the fact that a MOR file does not remove lines but (with current thinking) changes lines only. If a morph currently exists then the new geometry lines will be added and te morph will have twice the number of vertices then the body part.

I've made a MOR file that adds a morph target. There's a message buried somewhere deep in these archives on how it's done. Pretty much, though, you find a morph that's already in the default character but not used in yours, then change the name line within the channel, erase the geometry that's there, and put yours in instead. I think that's how it's done, at least; I'm not bothering to dig out the text file right now. ^_~

That's to create a new morph in the CR2. I'm talking about dynamically adding a morph after the CR2 has already been loaded into poser.

kattman, are you some type of cr2 rocket scientist? youre a fountain of info on this stuff......your brain, bubbling w/ poser code.............. lol, all i do is keep reading and learning...... thanx!

atom, It;s the thrill of the hunt. I'm a late comer to the game when it comes to manipulating the CR2 format, but I am no where near the end of the pack. Of course the P-Wiz is my way of putting my knowledge into your hands.
