Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 10 3:47 pm)
I hear you on that one. I'm still using my old original Bondi Blue, and it just is not up to scratch-- I can't even render Mike 2 with a bump map. Animating? What? I'm hoping to inherit a faster machine in th near future-- it should be quite an experience trying to learn the vast amount of features I've never so much as tried.
Amen. I have a Bondi Blue 233mhz as well, but I do most of my Poser work on my second system, an AMD K6-2 500mhz running Win98. It just works faster. Lately, larger sets and models are becoming slow, and animating is tedious. The renders themselves go pretty fast, but not working with the scenes and positioning the characters. I'm thinking that G4 dual 1Ghz with 1.5 GB of RAM and that new 23" widescreen LCD should do it. I wonder what trade-in value Apple will give me on my car? :)
Gee, my AMD 1.4 runs Poser so fast I often finish things before I start 'em! Plus I can load 19 Mikes and have them chase 27 Supermodel Vickies around the screen, at the same time I'm running 1,257 other applications! My Mac G3, on the other hand, is so slow I have to come in an hour before work to get it booted up by starting time!
boy I don't even bother backing up my poser folder. I back up orginal files and my pz3's. Poser takes a bit to load but is fast once I get in. p41.4gig with 512mb here, course you should have seen it on my p2 350 with on 64...can you say ouch? I do mostly one human figure, I've done a few with animals and such. reminds me I should post sphere of annilation....

Well, we've tried everything to get Kupa to divulge his secrets, I've whined, pleaded, cussed.. all to no avail. So, perhaps it's time to be more philosophical. Being a pragmatic sort of chap I got to thinking what was the best upgrade I ever got for Poser. I came to the conclusion that it didn't come from Curious or from Metacreations at all but from a computer manufacturer. Upgrading from a laptop to a much faster machine released all the functions that were already there. Having a 19 inch screen for example enabled me to see everything I wanted at once. Suddenly, I was able to utilise the grouping tool and to animate a figure in real time using the full tracking mode. There are still functions though that are beyond my present machine, I need to be able to animate in real time with multiple figures, Poser 4's perfectly able to do that but my machine isn't. I need to be able to get on with shockwave 3d stuff and again PPP is able to do that but my OS isn't. The same's true of high res texture maps, radiosity lighting and even the various exporters are held up by processor speed. Bryce grinds, Lightwave hangs and so on. So, as far as I'm concerned my next upgrade's already here, I've just got to go out and buy it......
