Subject: Hair File Distribution

bloodsong ( ) posted Wed, 01 May 2002 at 6:23 AM · edited Fri, 14 February 2025 at 2:06 AM

heyas; for those who don't know, i'm making a poser norn. it's an artificial life creature. it's not that important... but anyway, the norns have hair, so i've gone through my hair library and made several hair styles fit the norn, and i saved them to a new norn hair library. now, i would like to make a zip of the new hair files for people to use with the norn. now the daz hair is okay, because they all use obj pointers. the custom hair, i can contact individuals and ask for distribution permission. but what can i do with the poser 4 and poser 2 hair? :/

can we see a picture of your Norn, I have all the creatures programs and love watching them play about, I'm an addict :) see my email address as proof Nornaddict@aol.com Rob

The Poser hair files use obj pointers too - if you haven't changed the mesh that should be o.k.

I sure do and I'm gonna get the new creatures when they finally get it finished, when I'm logged into DS I'm c1rcle as well, just don't use it too often at the moment, my other passion (poser) is in first place, I think I need to get another monitor for creatures to run on

just had a look and WOW they are great, hope you get them posted soon especially the butterfly Norn, have you thought about doing a few Grendels or Ettins, I think we need to prod creature labs and get them to use poser for the next game creatures3D great work and as my norns would say "me want that" :) Rob

Ack! First they rape, loot, and plunder the Celtic heritage until there is nothing left but parody... and now they are starting on mine!! ACCKKKKKKK!!! Norns are NOT a character class. They are the three sisters (with names and personalities) who sit next to the Well under Yggdrasil's roots and spin, measure, and cut the threads which are our lives and destinys. Grendels are NOT a character class. He is a specific individual with a home and a mother who loves him... even if nobody else does. Ettins are a character class. They are the largest of the giants. This Midgard (middle earth) upon which we live was formed from the body of an Ettin. Not something to casually play with and forget about like a dwarf or mortal man. Sheesh! "Butterfly" norns? ::sound of person throwing up in disgust:: Carolly

Yes, Grendel was so misunderstood ....

The only virtual pets I've ever played around with are PF.magic's Dogz and Catz. Their AI isn't quite as sophisticated as the Norns of Creatures, but at least they live longer.

Dave will be glad to hear that people still like his critters. :)

bloodsong ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 8:44 AM

heyas; they're not 'character classes,' they're species. they happen to be named after mythological beings, but they are in no way attempting to BE those mythological beings. is that okay? :) on ds i'm bloodsong, c1rcle :) if i have time, i might do a base ettin and grendel. i hope to, anyhow. :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 7:03 PM

Species? That seems like a specious argument! ::harumph:: (If I had a moustache, it would be fluttering horizontally with all the huffing and puffing.) If norns are a species, you have to have some male norns, and they'd just get the thread all tangled and drop the distaff into the Well... but they'd probably measure twice and cut once. Carolly

hmmm.... i almost hate to ask, but do you know what a geat is? :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 11:26 PM

Yup. :) This was my degree field: "Special Projects Major in Early Scandinavian Culture". Independent work is like doing a Masters on the undergraduate level. AND you get to be one-on-one with the professors, so you work a bit harder than when you can hide in the crowd. My Advisor was German and my Dean was Irish, so they were a tad biased about my efforts to convince them of the friendly intentions of my ancestors. ;^) Note: I am NOT a Viking apologist. I see no reason to apologize for being successful. Carolly

Hmm, the story about the three old broads seems to have gotten around a lot.

bloodsong ( ) posted Fri, 03 May 2002 at 2:30 PM

er, so... what's a geat?

bikermouse ( ) posted Sat, 04 May 2002 at 5:47 AM

hauksdottir: "The Noms" you mention sound like "The Fates" in Greek mythology. bloodsong: why not make your own hair and sell it? (and if the name "Nom" offends the Nordic peoples, perhaps it could be changed?) - ok what is a geat?

bloodsong ( ) posted Sat, 04 May 2002 at 8:26 AM

norn, not nom. i'm not selling anything; i am going to make some free norn hair, but for variety, i wanted to convert some regular hair to fit it. i dunno what a geat is, but it is a species slot in creatures that currently doesn't have any active species in it.
