My experience is, "Probably Not" Have you loaded it into poser then exported as an .obj file with everything but "ground" selected? I most often get the "I/O, Bad Media" error if there isn't a .mtl file associated with the import. Exporting from Poser as .obj supplies the .mtl file. Unfortunately, you still have to do a lot of tweaking because Bryce sets diffusion, ambiance and specularity all to 100%... yuk.
yeah i got the mtl file and i dont get the i/o error anymore, just that all the textures are gone and i have to redo everything which i am not too keen on....specially with the woodelf hair since it consists of like 12 parts and i dont know which part gets which texture file. is there any way i could export it maybe as something different then an obj so i can keep the textures?

You can try this. It is a utility that supposedly will keep your maps in place between the move from Poser to Bryce. I have suggested it to other members and it has helped them. Otherwise, no...you will have to re-apply all the textures to your model, by hand, in Bryce. AgentSmith

This may be the hard way (but the only way to do it on a MAC) but before you run it through UVMapper, load the .OBJ into a text editor (one that can handle large files) and search for the term "mtllib". Copy the whole line to your clipboard (i.e. "mtllib strtlite.mtl"). Then run the .OBJ through UVMapper then reload that and paste the mtllib line into the top of the file and save. btw - this problem seems to be coming from DAZ3D- if you look at the .OBJ in Poser's geometeries folder there is stuff there that should not be in an .OBJ. UVMapper strips out the bad stuff... sure would be nice if Poser did that!
I get the same error with complex hair...you could try this. In poser pose your figure,when you export it,export everything BUT the hair.Next export just the hair.Do NOT move the figure in poser inbetween the two exports.When in bryce import the first fig.then the 2nd...now group them.Same applys in bryce...Do NOT move the figures until your done grouping them...hope this helps.
Before exporting from Poser surround the figure in a box ( make sure box covers enitire figure). then export both the box and figure without hair. Then the box and hair. When you import to Bryce it should resize the box keeping the proportions of the figure and hair the same. Then delete the boxes from Bryce and everything should the the correct size and in the corect place.
Yeah a box prop. Bryce imports objects to Bryce's unity size (20.48 units adjusted for proportions) or something like that. When you import the box with the figure inside Bryce will resize both the figure and hair to the same proportions because it's basing that resize on the boxe's size. If that makes any sense.
alright i'll try that next...i got most of it working now, only problem is, i am trying to save the transparency information for the hair so i dont have to reset it in Bryce since the hair i am using has like 10 or 11 different pieces, and 5 or 6 transparency maps and i dont know which map goes to which piece...

Bryce just imports the settings as recorded in the file. I've had a similar problem with the earrings for the Indian Sari from PoserWorld. Bryce would give me error messages if I tried to import the .obj of the woman wearing the sari. I tried all kinds of things, including exporting everything separately from Poser. I finally found it was the earrings, which after export from Poser all by themselves are an .obj file almost 12Mb in size. Bryce would not import the earrings by themselves either, just wouldn't accept that mesh no matter what. It did import everything else. I finally gave up and put other earrings on the woman in the sari.

I have been trying for hours to import Daz's wood elf archer into bryce and kept getting the "A file error has occured (i/o, bad media)." error. i tried the whole thing again without the hair and it worked fine. textures, character and pose just rendered fine. looked around on a couple of message boards and read somewhere that i should try to load the obj file into UVMapper and re-save. done. worked great, all imported just fine. only problem is, the textures are all gone now. is there any way i can re-save in UVMapper and still keep all the texture information saved so i dont have to spend hours and hours in bryce selecting all the little parts of the body and hair and re-texturing them?
