Subject: just a few thoughts...

Ok, why do so many pics either have just one or two comments, and others have 20 or more? I don't get it at all. Does it matter what time of day you upload a pic? Or the quality of the thumbnail? Am I the only one who gets a bit irked when you spend hours, weeks on a pic, believing it to be your best, only to get virtually no comment, or viewing? And yet if you do what you believe to be your worst pic, it gets loads of hits? lol What do you have to do to get 20 comments???!! Be descended from Michael Angelo?lolol Also, maybe I'm stupid and missing the point, but I think renderers like Vue4 are about capturing realism as best as you can, using it's tools and abilities to their optimum. I don't see the point in doing unrealistic, fake scenes or improbable landscapes (only when we first start using the program). Afterall, that IS why people look, isn't it? For the "wow" factor? For example, I've often seen comments like "Wow, that looks like a photo", implying the scene looks pretty realistic as you would expect to see it in real life, ie, the lighting, the background, the fog, mist, rock textures, etc. That just gives me the impression others TOO look for realism in the pictures they view. Hope I don't sound snobbish, I'm in NO WAY criticising ANY artist on this site, we all have abilities and talents that have equal value, whatever we choose to use Vue4 for ;) I guess my point is rather a moot one ;) lol JoeBlack

Well, I'm a newbie to Vue 4(3days ago), but more expirinced on Bryce 5, I guess we render images that appeal to our style, some pictures are more appealing than other's and that's why some memebers rank and comment on the various styles. So far I havent gotten any comments on any of my 3 first pics, but that doesnt make me feel bad, I actually see it as challenge, a motivation at getting better at it. I certainly think all Images are Great, but some deserve some comments or ranking for their hard work and artistic effort, we must exploit new ideas and techniques to stay on top. Keep posting and dont let it discourage you, I have had many obstacles on the way, like bad comments on my pictures, but I noticed that I have gotten better and slowly evolving into a better artist. Good Idea that you brought this to everyone's attention!!!! Good Luck....BTW Great Artwork!:-) Art

Hi JoeBlack. No, it is not depending of the hour of the day when you upload an image. And it depends only in a small part on the thumbnail (a nice thumbnail of the image is very inviting:-)). I have a look at nearly every pictures, but I do not always leave a comment. The reason is simple: I have not the time to write something to all images. I must like an image to leave a comment, even if it is to give critics for improvement. And what I like, you maybe will not and so on. Often images are Poser figures just rendered in Vue. They are maybe less interesting to a viewer then a "real VUE scene", landscape or whatever, but I'm noot sure about that. Realism is not always a criterium, many Vue users creates great fantasy images also. Let us all be free to express ourselfes the way we feel:-). An image what tells a story is always interesting. But in reality, I don't know exactly what invites a visitor to leave a comment here or there. What about you, other viewers? JoeBlack, Can you give us the URL of your Renderosity gallery so we all can have a look? :-)Guitta

Thnx Art4, I'll take a gander at your galleries after I post this ;) And gebe, I've seen your work, and it's awesome! I'm nowhere near your standard ;) Hope no-one was offended by what I said, I didn't mean to be; of course we're all allowed to use whichever program we like, in whatever manner ;)Just a few things that were bugging me *lol* I was really chuffed when my Poser catsuit texture and transmap got 700 downloads in less than 3 days, though :) I was SO surprised *lol* I blush at my early pics, but I hope I have improved since then... I think there are lots of things that makes visitors look at a pic, and leave a comment, or not. Yes, there surly is a good part for the thumbnail. I think there is also the title. It can looks stupid but certain titles are not impressive while others can capture your attention. It's the difference between 'sun and water' and 'Wake of Victoria Lake' titles. :-) I suppse there is also some themes that are more 'viewed' than others. Mystical or fantasy, Egyptian or historical pictures invits more looking than 'the-little-grass-behind-the-garage-of-my-parents' picture. This doesn't mean that your picture of this grass is not a good work, but... ;-) And surely, there is the name under the picture. Lots of renderosity's members are well known for the quality of their works and, in a certain way, all of their pictures is like an event. Take your time, continue the work, and surely you'll create this kind of events... For your thoughts about realism, I think the purpose of creating scenes with vue (and any render program) is not photorealism, but "believablism" (wow !). yes, you can make an unreal scene, 'Attack on Mars', 'Moon Ocean' or 'Fields of Dreams' or 'Salamander in the Sun'. For the two first examples, you must make a scene that people who see it can believe. For the two others, the principal point will be the composition of the picture. But even there, you must not make a 'non-sense'. A source light is a source light. If there is a torch in the left of your scene and all your scene is lighted from the right, there's a problem !!! You must be logical with your scene. In fine, the most important thing, about digital art, and all forms of art is fun ! You must have a good fun when you make pictures. It must not be a hunt for approbation of other users, but a real pleasure. If you have that fun, and if people can feel it in what your produced, fame and glory will become yours... ;-)

I had a look at your images JoeBlack, and they look all fine. Some have very beautiful light effects. What's missing a little is just the "story" or the object catching the eye. I know you have not a very strong computer, but that's not a problem. Sometimes one object at the right place brings out great an image. A sample is your image "lost". Some users asked me where they can find ideas for their images. I answer: just look around you for realistic images (the streets and offices and gardens are full of ideas), close your eyes and dream for fantasy images or read books (all kind of books), look at historical images or whatever. Just follow your way, try every thing you like to try. And, as Bop said, have pleasure and fun and create images for yourself before creating it for others:-) Guitta

As you have said, I think the quality of thumnail is important. Also are the original side of the pic, the quality of the pic .

You mentioned not only commends but also vieuwings. Not anyone is commend every pic he vieuws ofcourse, but I think I know what you mean some pics with a louzy thumb (good pic) have dozens of vieuws. Stillives are not much wanted even as plain landscapes when I compare the vieuwstatistics. One thing helps. Mark the nudity sign. ;)) I did it once as a joke and its the only time I had 200+ vieuws. regards Myske

Not a good tactic Myske. You don't need to do so and others don't need either. Let's be honest and mark NUDITY when there is nudity. Guitta

I know ,I did it only one time as a joke . And not nessicairy either I think most people here make their work just for their own fun. regards Myske
