Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
No, I don't have ebots turned on. But this morning, for example, I saw over 100 "new" messages where in fact there were only about two dozen new threads--the rest were deletions from various threads. The forum software shouldn't do that.. it should allow people to delete their messages in peace without filling up the forum with "new" information that isn't new.
I had chosen to keep my actions and motives private. I had no intentions of causing any difficulties like what has happened. I have not received any of these ebot notices, but maybe that is because I was doing the deleting?! At any rate, the job can be considered finished.. I want this whole affair to remain private. I don't want to cause any major disruption. For that reason I won't respond further in public. Ron
In case you didn't know it, if you delete the originating post on the thread it shows up as "unread" in everydodies list. Let me suggest that should be fixed, or perhaps a better system is not to allow members to delete a message that has a reply - we would all have to keep our lies straight, then. ;-)
You want complaints... Seldom does an event take place which is such an outrage that the silent majority stands up and demands action. But the silent majority is currently demanding that something be done about the Poser forum. Let me begin by saying that the Poser forum is a pretty good liar most of the time. However, it tells so many lies, it's bound to trip itself up someday. Now the surprising news: The Poser forum's fibs are designed to force square pegs into round holes. And they're working; they're having the desired effect. If we are to take steps against the whole illogical brotherhood of fickle hoodlums, then we must be guided by a healthy and progressive ideology, not by the prodigal and brutal ideologies that the Poser forum promotes. For the purpose of this discussion, let's say that the Poser forum periodically puts up a facade of reform. However, underneath the pretty surface, it's always business as usual. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that in order to make technical preparations for the achievement of freedom and human independence, we must dispense justice. And that's just the first step. Remember, the Poser forum thinks that anyone who dares to bring strength to our families, power to our nation, and health to our cities can expect to suffer hair loss and tooth decay as a result. However, it and its sycophants pay little or no attention to the negative impact that parasitism will have on our daily lives. The Poser forum uses the very intellectual tools it criticizes, namely consequentialist arguments rather than arguments about truth or falsity. The Poser forum may not be that coldhearted, but it sure is vulgar. The Poser forum presents itself as a disinterested classicist lamenting the infusion of politically motivated methods of pedagogy and analysis into higher education. It is eloquent in its denunciation of modern scholarship, claiming it favors improvident Philistines. And here we have the ultimate irony, because this is a free country, and I suspect we ought to keep it that way. For future reference, the Poser forum's assertion that things have never been better serves only to illustrate its ignorance and poorly hidden bigotry. We can therefore extrapolate that it's a pity that two thousand years after Christ, the voices of temperamental pop psychologists like it can still be heard, worse still that they're listened to, and worst of all that anyone believes them. I would like to put forth the possibility that the Poser forum should work with us, not step in at the eleventh hour and hog all the glory. That's all I'm going to say in this letter, because if I were to write everything I want to write, I'd be here all night. (Thanks, Thorne!)
And furthermore... Once again, I find disappointment. Once again, I find no satisfaction. Once again, I find that to my mind, the Poser forum's screeds show a degree of raving sickness that even I didn't expect. Let's review the errors in the Poser forum's statements in order. First, the elasticity of the Poser forum's interpretation of the Bible shields it from having to take a stand for anything morally correct yet politically (spiritually?) unpopular. What the Poser forum is doing is not an innocent, recreational sort of thing. It is a criminal activity, it is an immoral activity, it is a socially destructive activity, and it is a profoundly mephitic activity. Why don't more people complain when they see the Poser forum seek temporary tactical alliances with saturnine poltroons in order to invent a new moral system that legitimizes its desire to change the course of history? It's because the Poser forum has mastered the art of tricking people with images and myths. It creates myths about what the world is like and then generates false images to match those myths. This proves to me, at least, that there is really no limit to the Poser forum's impudence, and everyone with half a brain understands that. Because we continue to share a common, albeit abused, atmospheric envelope, it's easy for the Poser forum to declaim my proposals. But when is it going to provide an alternative proposal of its own? It is bootless to speculate on the matter, but it should be noted that I wonder if the Poser forum really believes the things it says. It knows they're not true, doesn't it? The answer is not obvious, because the Poser forum is perfectly willing to show its embarrassingly poor reasoning and warped ethics in print. And I can say that with a clear conscience, because a deep, ineradicable hatred of everything that is not yawping energizes the Poser forum to resort to underhanded tactics. I don't think anyone questions that. But did you know that we must speak neither of the past nor of the far future but rather focus on the here and now, specifically on the daunting matter of its irritating, presumptuous rodomontades? Out of all of the cynical, complacent wisenheimers I've ever known, the Poser forum is clearly the most uninformed. That sounds really grotesque, but I suspect that it's an accurate assessment of the situation. In order for us to realize more happiness in our lives, we need to understand that ever since the Poser forum decided to usher in the rule of the Antichrist and the apocalyptic end times, its consistent, unvarying line has been that anyone who disagrees with it is ultimately loud. Now, I hope the Poser forum was joking when it implied it was going to ruin people's lives, but it sure didn't sound like it. We need to look beyond the most immediate and visible problems with the Poser forum. We need to look at what is behind these problems and understand that the Poser forum's worshippers like having a stamp of assurance from the Poser forum that what they're doing is fashionable, or at least acceptable. As long as I live, I will be shouting this truth from rooftops and doing everything I can to avoid the extremes of a pessimistic naturalism and an optimistic humanism by combining the truths of both. I want to keep this brief: From secret-handshake societies meeting at "the usual place" to back-door admissions committees, the Poser forum's adherents have always found a way to deny citizens the ability to become informed about the destruction that the Poser forum is capable of. Last I checked, the only weapons the Poser forum has in its intellectual arsenal are book burning, brainwashing, and intimidation. That's all it has, and it knows it. The biggest difference between me and the Poser forum is that the Poser forum wants to confuse the catastrophic power of state fascism with the repression of an authoritarian government in our minds. I, on the other hand, want to review the basic issues at the root of the debate. The truth is not meant to be warm and fuzzy. Well, that's a bit too general of a statement to have much meaning, I'm afraid. So let me instead explain my point as follows: The Poser forum is willing to promote truth and justice when it's convenient. But when it threatens its creature comforts, the Poser forum throws principle to the wind. Did the Poser forum get dropped on its head when it was young, or did it take massive doses of drugs to believe that the majority of neo-sexist publishers of hate literature are heroes, if not saints? I once asked the Poser forum that question -- I am still waiting for an answer. In the meantime, let me point out that the Poser forum's assertions cannot stand on their own merit. That's why they're dependent on elaborate artifices and explanatory stories to convince us that all minorities are poor, stupid ghetto trash. Before you read this letter, you might have thought that all major world powers are controlled by a covert group of "insiders". Now you know that we must hold not only the Poser forum, but also the Poser forum's lackeys, accountable for their duplicitous, catty snow jobs. (Before I get banned for this, the last two messages are ment as a joke, your have to visit Poserpros figure it out, though)
Does this explain why I got ebot notices that there were replies to some topics and when I followed the links nothing new had been added?

Weird, I have it set to show when there is a reply, and I also use I.E. 6.0, but I don't get that when someone deletes a message, only when there is an actual reply. Wonder what the difference is? I do know that it is annoying if I make a mistake or the system hiccups and puts the same one twice that if I delete it it doesn't disappear, but shows as a deleted message. Wish that could be worked on. Marque
I didn't get any e-mail notices from Ron's deleted messages, so he must have forgotten to delete the ones that were in some of his hundreds of threads. Maybe he had to delete them for legal or personal reasons, some kind of secrecy deal. Personally, I like Poser Forum. Whenever I go to the local bar with Poser Forum, he's always the life of the party, buying rounds of drinks and telling off-color jokes. Poser Forum ran for city council a few months back, and did quite well in the run-offs. Then there was the time that Poser Forum stopped at 1 a.m. on a rainy freeway to change an old lady's flat tire. Ever since then, we've all developed a new sense of respect and admiration for Poser Forum.
Poser Forum reminds me more and more day after day of the Roman Empire before its fall.. eating up its devoted children, sending them to excile, intrigues and plots at each corner, convenient legislation overnight... I 'm only just wondering who will turn to be its Nero and set it on fire..just to see how it looks in flames! VL grin

Jim great post. I read 1/4 of it at work during lunch, but didn't finish it. I was stressing out until I went back and finished reading it at break :) . . . I was supposed to mention that there were some major programming changes made to the forums today. So you might see some weird stuff today :) Although they are unrelated to the "unread" post problems. Apparently the changes will be transparent to us. For suggestion to improving the site in general I will direct you to the Community Ideas forum. We actually read that forum...No, really we do. For suggestions for the poser resouce page and the poser forum send me an IM or start a thread and I will see what I can do. smerc
Jim Burton and Renapd, im...notso...ho; are on the money in this thread. Granted, politics are engaging, fun to play at when we are bored. However, I do wish to learn....(Only thus, can I ever rule the world, right?) From what I see, PoserPros is a very good learning site. I swore off this place "forever". (Which in my case generally means a 10 day trip to the Keys, and then a move to another dwelling.) I didn't take my toys and run...well, I didn't put up any toys here, either. Now, after 6 weeks, cool vacation, and a cooler condo...I'm back. Same ol' same ol'. No new tutorials, that I have found....No influx of "different" pics in the poser gallery. Same folks with multiple Hot 20 pics...with exception of Legume's Pony. And, to be fair...a few new topic forums. I am really getting nothing from this site. Why do I keep coming back? It's addicting. And, that's it. Pop...Pop...Poppi!!!
I was wondering yesterday why all the old posts starting threads were deleted....kinda like doing a Carnac thing...hearing the answers and guessing at the questions. BTW...if I ever cause any woes with deleting..it's 'cause this country boy is embarrassed by and plagued with a serious case a the typos... Beav
In case anybody thinks I've totaly flipped my lid or something, message #14 and #15 were done by a random complaint generator Thorne found on the web, and don't anybody post a link to it! I just couldn't resist when the subject of complaints came up, sorry! All I need now is a random clothing mesh generator, then I could sit back and enjoy life! Actually, I've only partly flipped my lid...
C1rcle, if you check the seventh message in, you'll see that Ron doesn't want to talk about it. Quite frankly I think he's just trying to cover himself. Delete old stuff so people can't see the way he acts, and he can play all innocent when accused of repeating himself. Simple really. He's deleted all trace of anything he's said and left countless threads where people appear to be talking to themselves or a mystery person called Ron/Ronknights. Bit daft really, but what the hey. At least he doesn't have to delete everything from C&D as well. :)
I have already stated that this is my own personal business. I chose to do something in a private manner. I had no idea it would cause such chaos. Again, my personal business is no one else's business. There is no point in speculating or insulting me or anyone else. As for some people's words: did you ever hear that old saying about "the pot calling the kettle black?!" PS: I rarely went into C&D. That's because too many people thought it was a license to bring a shotgun into a crowded room. I don't like the sight of blood. (other comments were self-censored). Now why not move onto something else more entertaining or important?! Ron
I wonder sometimes, has anyone else checked out Ron's website, do you see all the great stuff he has there, the tutorials are very good for newbies, do you want to lose them? I don't and I've seen a few times in the last few months where certain people have got so fed up with all the nastiness and bitchiness that they've left the poser scene altogether, I'm not pointing fingers or accusing anyone but lets just be nice to each other. Rob
I'm quickly making a discovery that I just don't have much time for "public contact" any more. The new job occupies much of my time and energy. I am struggling with a choice between spending most of my free time in the Renderosity Forums, or trying to do some of my projects. My list of desired projects keeps getting larger. The latest project is dear to me. I'm working on designing a Poser clown. It's time to give this one some serious time and energy.
I have already stated that this is my own personal business. I chose to do something in a private manner. I had no idea it would cause such chaos. Again, my personal business is no one else's business.... No, Dear, when it causes me ANY aggravation, due to your being somewhat "wishy washy" in a free, public forum...it becomes my concern. best of luck with your newbie endeavors. so many of us just don't have the time that you have to help. Poppi ;*)

I don't know, or care why you are doing this, except maybe to attract attention, but you are making thousands of members wade thru messages that are now marked as unread. Or better yet, can we get the forum software fixed so this doesn't happen?
