Subject: P4 Male has lost his hips

My P4 Male has lost his hips! The area where the hips are supposed to be is transparent and you can see through to the background. The P4 female's hips are visible and OK. Same for Vicky and Mike. It happened all of a sudden. I was working on a picture using the P4F and P4M. I rendered it and everything was fine. After adjusting the characters a little bit, I rendered again but now the P4M's hips were gone. I replaced him with several different P4Ms, but the result was the same - all stock Poser P4Ms have lost their hips. P4F, Vicky, and Mike are all OK. For both of the renders mentioned above, the P4M genitals were hidden, and Lee Moon's Posable Male Genitals Pack 2.0 substituted. Can anyone tell me whats gone wrong and how to fix it? I'm using Poser 4 Pro with all upgrades installed. My computer is an 800 MHz Pentium III with 512 MBs of RAM and three hard drives totaling over 200 GB of storage [less than 1/2 used]. I run Zone Alarm Pro and McAfee Anti Virus and have never, to my knowedge, been been hacked or bothered by a virus.

I'm no expert and may be wrong, but forget viruses, they attack OS and registry files not Mr Dorks weenie. My guess is P4 man object file has somehow corrupted. I lost some files in Poser once and took advice from the guys here and just re-installed the program over the top without removing it. They assured me I wouldn't lose any of my libraries but Thomas by name and by nature I still saved a lot of my characters and props to Zip and CD. However everything went as they predicted, the backups weren't necessary and everything worked fine again. Another thought I'm not sure about that genital prop you mentioned but it may have a bearing if the file is in the wrong folder or are you using a Mike object on P4, also did you turn off genitals on the figure? or make it invisible? You used the word "hidden" if object/properties menu/ hip = invisible there goes your lost hip! The correct way to hide his objet-de-art is go to Figure/menu and uncheck Genitalia. These last thoughts are probably the first points to check before a re-install routine. Incidentally I'm impressed, only 150 meg ram and 20 gig hard drive here.

This happened to me one time with Victoria and it was the strangest thing. Check to see if there's hip.obj file in the Poser root folder ( Program FilesMetacreationsPoser 4 ). I saw hip.obj there, renamed it to something like "hip-.obj", and the problem went away. I hope that your problem is as easy to solve as that.

P.S. I have no idea where the hip.obj came fromo or how this phenomenon works.

This happens when Poser is tired ... and there's a lot of stuff in his head. Reboot. Refresh, and if that doesn't work ... the hell with it ...

The disappearing hip happens sometimes when you use a character (or characters) with full morphs (body and/or head)in a scene with other characters. It happens often when you use more than one (different) character that has full body morphs in a scene. Sometimes even a prop will disappear, if it was selected at the time you load a new character. It seems to be related to which figure (and body part or prop)is selected at the time a new figure is added to a scene. Why does it happens? Damned if I know. It seems to be one of the many "cross talk" problems with Poser. I've found no reliable fix for it. EMC Fixer doesn't always prevent the problem, but it's worth a try. : ) Mostly all you can do is delete that character or prop, and use something else. Sometimes you will not see the problem in the window, save to .pz3, and when you reopen the file you're sometimes totally screwed. It is not unusual. It's just part of the game.

Better still, delete the RSR file in the Geometries folder for the nude P4 male and Poser will create a new one. It's probably corrupted. WG... the hip.obj in the Poser folder was probably copied there by mistake... When Poser looks, It finds this one first and loads it. Deleting it would allow Poser to find the proper version in the Geometries folder? Hmmm... Howard:)

Oops, I didn't mean delete the character from you library, only from the scene. : ) That normally does the job. When it doesn't, reinstalling has not worked (for me, at least). Yep, sometimes deleting the .rsr works. Sometimes not. Strangely, if the library character is the problem, it seems to correct itself after about 30 days. Cleaning the system might work faster. When you use it everyday for a few years, you learn that Poser can be really, really weird. You just live it. : ) I'm following this thread in the hope that someone has a real answer. I would love to hear it. Until then...maybe Poser5.

I don't see this problem very often. Sometimes it's fixed just by deleting the characters, and putting them back in the scene in a different order. For instance, if this character was the third in the scene, put him in first, then the others. Or try different variations of that idea.

Hi, Ron. Good to hear from you. Really the problem seems more related to what is currently selected when you load a new figure. That would make it appear as related to "load order" when it is only "accidently" related. : ) You know when a problem appears, you can make some good guesses as to why it does. When it DOESN'T appear, it's hard to say why it doesn't. I believe EMC Fixer is on the right track, not because it is loaded first, but because you select it each time before loading something else. EMC Fixer, however, doesn't always work. I suspect, that what is currently selected must be of TOTALLY different and simple geometry to prevent the "cross talk" problem. For example, select a simple Post or Column figure of few body parts when loading a human-like figure. Is that an answer? Who the hell knows. I've just noticed that when I remember to do something like that the problem doesn't appear even when the combination of other figures caused the problem before. Strange? Damn right. As I said, I wish someone could supply a REAL answer. : ) Take care, Lee

I have had this problem several times, only after loading saved files. There was one file in particular, where the textures on the hip would always disappear on loading. No big deal to reapply the texture tho. Then, there was another file where the hip itself disappeared from the figure (and it was not just hidden from view). I wish I knew an easy fix, but I had to replace the figure in the scene, and usually ended up remapping and reapplying some props.

I thank one and all for their suggestions for a fix. I have found what the problem was. In prepartion for adding Lee's genatalia I had removed the chechmark for "Genatalia" on the Figure roll down menu. Since the genatalia are an integral part of hips in blNudeMan_Gen.obj, the entire hip is removed then Genatalia is unchecked. The solution was to leave genatalia checked and then hide them by unchecking "Visible" Properties selection of the Object roll down menu.

If this is propack, there is a solution in the update. Yes, the genitals switch is SUPPOSED to hide the genitals with an alternate hip obj.

My problem with vanishing things on the Dork has always been his head. I'm working along, load a Dork, and suddenly there's these eyeballs floating in space! I've had Poser do weird things, but that one's downright disturbing!
