Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 20 11:41 am)
Yes Ohman... Are you changing lines in the .obj (or .pp2/.cr2?) file here? I would LOVE to know how to tile textures in Poser... I have always built custom texture maps for differently sized surfaces to make the detail come out consistent. Perhaps you could provide an example? I have noticed that Steve Cox's UV-Mapper program has a "Tiles" item under the "Edit" menu. Perhaps it might play into this subject?? Thanks, Buck
Nutz! I'd just noticed it a few days ago. It's probably been there all along. Doesn't sound too difficult though. Perhaps Steve will consider adding it to his upgrade list. I'm thinking of something simple that would allow you to make a selection, pick the Tiling function, choose a grid size to split it up, and UVM takes each section of that grid and blows it up to 1x1 (full page) ,overlaying them and assigns them to a new material. When subsequently using the model you would just apply a separate map to this tiled portion of the figure and it would be repeated according to the grid size you selected. But then, whadda I know about writing apps.... (Hoping Steve might cruz past this thread)
In the case shown i just opened the .obj-file in notepad and multiplied all values in the vt lines by two: vt 0 0 => vt 0 0 vt 0 0.5 => vt 0 1 vt 0 1 => vt 0 2 vt 0.5 0 => vt 1 0 vt 0.5 0.5 => vt 1 1 vt 0.5 1 => vt 1 2 vt 1 0 => vt 2 0 vt 1 0.5 => vt 2 1 vt 1 1 => vt 2 2 Works fine for a simple object. /Ohman
UVMapper can currently handle this is a round about sort of way. Here's a related note I just posted to the Poser list (of course, that 'someone else' is Nance...) Also, I just tried it with a simple 4 sided polygon and it works great. + + + I believe that Poser actually does handle texture tiling. To test this I loaded an apple into UVMapper and remapped it using planar mode (without splitting.) I then selected everything and pressed the keypad-* key twice to make the map 16 times as large (effectively a 4x4 tile.) I then pressed 'home' to align the map with the top left corner and saved out the model. I loaded it into Poser and applied a simple texture. The render is here: http://home.pb.net/~stevecox/render.jpg and the texture map I used is here: http://home.pb.net/~stevecox/tile.jpg Interestingly, someone else has just written me asking for some additional functionality in UVMapper to support tiling. It should be pretty easy to do, I just need to think through the user interface issues to simplify things a bit. Is this the effect you're looking for? Steve
I do agree, texture tiling is a great things and works perfectly well in Poser, especially if you make buildings or any kind of architectural props / char (a stripe of wallpaper like in real life for exemple to texture the walls). In fact for that kind of model I use it quiet extensively (the only way to get a pretty detailed map without having to use a huge one. I do it from within max but yes, it would be definitively a wonderful things if this possibility was also avaiable in uv-mapper :):) J-L
