Woooooow, LOL, baha baha, LOL, many is that right $99.00 for a basket ball, must belong to Michael Jordon or Euwing....Sharen

gryffnn ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 7:28 PM

LOL Snow. Just think what the price would be if it rated five stars. For $99 I hope it sings and does a little dance. Actually, I'm reminded about the fellow selling apples on the street, with the sign "$1000 Each". To the comment "Man, you're not going to sell many apples at that price!", he answers "I only need to sell one."

SAMS3D ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 7:34 PM

Nah, it's a "smart" ball, goes right in the hoop :) I'm pretty tempted to put together a texture pack to turn it into a : tennis ball, golf ball (with added bump map), volleyball, soccer ball, etc.... What would be a good price to charge??

zombiestudio ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 8:38 PM

lol. For half that price, I'll sell a real basketball. :)

kjlintner ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 9:13 PM

Yah, you gotta love the squid. I've seen things just liek that going for a lot more. Problem is, there are fools that will buy it.

Poppi ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 9:18 PM

Well, I think it is a swell lookin' ball. Now, please, tell me where i can get the matching tennis shoes. I know my kids will be wanting them.

PabloS ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 9:21 PM

I'll be away for a couple of days. I'm going to make a box to sell on that site. Do you think if I included a couple of different textures I could get $150?

SnowSultan ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 10:39 PM

LOL gryffnn, it had at least better come with a bump map. :) Pariah, is that what thumbnails on Turbosquid look like? I actually didn't find that there, but I'm heading back to the site tonight to look for more affordable products like this. ;) SnowS

If this were meant for sale to people who couldn't make their own, the high price might be reasonable. For instance, a glassblower might take 30 seconds to make a little swan; he can sell it for considerably more than 30 seconds worth of labor, because the buyer likes a pretty thing but has no equipment or skills to make it. But this is a .3DS file, and the only people who can use such a file are those who already have the necessary equipment and at least enough skill to create a sphere! It's like the glassblower trying to sell his swans at a glassblower's convention.

kjlintner ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 11:01 PM

Yes, that is a thumb for Turbo Squid. Try doing a search for Modelmasters. I think they have a lot of other goodies too at a privce only a fool could afford. =)

Silvermermaid ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 11:32 PM

Now that's ridiculous, I think I will take a sphere throw a texture on it and charge $101, LOL :)

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sun, 02 June 2002 at 11:45 PM

Make your widget, set your price, and see who buys. Don't sell enough, lower the price. Sell a lot, raise the price and call it new and improved.

Ironbear ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 12:34 AM

Heh heh... damned if I'm not tempted to upload my Poser FlatPanel Monitor at TS for $300, just to see if it'd sell... ;]

What I would like to know, is how many actually bought this. I have a shere colored green if anyone wants a pea for their pea shooter, but the shooter will cost you 200. Unless you have access to the bendy straw in free stuff. Tashar 59

Not only do they also offer a baseball and football for $99 each as well, but I also found this useful headless, neckless, handless, footless, bulbous HIGH-REZ 3DS character body too! Watch out DAZ3D. :) SnowS

WARNING: DO NOT USE THE BENDY STRAW IN FREE STUFF FOR PEA-SHOOTING ...

The bendy straw in Free Stuff is not certified for pea-shooting activities; users have reported misfires, hangfires, and weapon-jams at the bendy part. We can not take legal responsibility for any misuse of this product.

If your pea should jam, set the bendy straw down gently on a flat surface and seek cover immediately. Do not attempt to extract the pea yourself; do not look directly into the barrel of the bendy straw. Notify your local HazMat unit or bomb squadron for professional dismantling.

This has been a public service announcement by Little_Dragon Fun Stuff Ltd., a division of Psycho Industries. We now return you to your regularly scheduled rant against injustice.

queri ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 4:02 AM

Now you tell me!! Now, after I've been running amuck with the Bendy Straw all day and half the night, I find out it's dangerous! Actually, I found out it's a little more dangerous than that. If I ever get done rendering -- SOON. . the Bendy Straw at your favorite gallery, all singing, all dancing, allstar revue. Emily

queri ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 4:04 AM

Tickets for the Bendy Straw only $99. That's right ladies and gentlemen, Under One Hundred Dollars. Emily tickets for viewing only, no touching or otherwise communicating with the Bendy Straw without further arrangements with the management.

Oh - man - I could be a millionaire /me is leaving his company in a hurry to do boxes, spheres and (bow down) a combined box and a sphere - if a box would cost 50$ and a sphere will cost 100$ this should make 150$ then ... - marvellous ...

bikermouse ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 4:55 AM

Hey thanks for the warning . . . and i found out the hard way it makes the coon shin cap mad when someone uses the bendy straw in such a manner.

gryffnn ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 5:31 AM

I am seriously curious about how they do the star ratings - does it mean at least one person with too much money and too little brains bought this thing? Or they have a huge project budget - please send him/her to my store. (Disclaimer: ALL my customers are brilliant and talented!)

kromekat ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 6:19 AM

Aw, that's not fair! - how's a vendor supposed to compete with that kind of quality/price! - the markets just going to bottom out for us guys! ;)

and here I was thinking about putting together a set of 38, or 39 poser props, texture mappes, transmapped, and asking $20.00 ~sigh~ guess I'll have to start thinking higher pricing....at 99 per 3ds...a poser prop with tex would be worth what...200? times 38...yes 7600...wouldn't sell I'll stick to the 20 for the whole set. the set of props, for those that are curious, are a means of incorporating your copyright information right into your renders....unfortunately, it will work best when rendered with a good ray trace rendering engine..like bryce or vue.

Although I notice that bioMechanix has engaged in some price-slashing recently ... it's only $149 now.

melanie ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 8:59 PM

I remember a year or two ago, someone posted a picture of a blocky little man they found on some site. All made of cubes, no features, but textured. They wanted something like $1500 for it. Any six-year-old could have made it. LOL Melanie

Dave-So ( ) posted Mon, 03 June 2002 at 9:49 PM

You guys are so damn harsh.... Can't you imagine all the time and effort that went into that cube guy ? And especially that $100 BB.....I think ts because of the autographs

Don't worry folks, you don't need to spend all that money on cubes and boxes! In fact, what you've already spent on 3d proogies has been WASTED! That's right, just follow the link and you'll find that for the truly lazy artist, here at rosity, you can spend 200 bucks for a picture! I'm sure the images are high quality, best they can be, yadda-yadda, so why even bother learning this art stuff?! Take that money you'd normally spend on Poser Pro Pack and just buy pictures to put in your gallery! Think of all the time you'll save! *8^> Paul P.S.: Whoever duo is, please take this in good humour. I realize, just as you do, that rosity's marketplace can be used to sell to non-artists, too. ;)

gryffnn ( ) posted Tue, 04 June 2002 at 6:52 AM

I think someone purchasing art for a book or CD cover would want to have exclusive rights, although magazines, ad folks and such do use photos and art from stock collections. Bikermouse, even retorical questions get answered around here: When you post to a thread, there's a checkbox that's automatically marked "Email me when someone replies". Unless you uncheck it, you get an email whenever someone posts to the thread.

just to see what would happen I've uploaded a little something I threw together onto turbosquid, it's a nice set of masks & its a bargain at $50, I doubt anyone will buy it & if they do they'll want their money back straight away, I've had 58 people look so far but no-one's been daft enough to buy it yet. Okay you guys, laugh if you want to, but this thing is great! It's a steal at twice the price I paid for it! You can do ***anything*** with this bad boy. The creator says *"Almost all 3D models start out as cubes."* I'm working on a set of new walls for my latest scene right now, but I'm having a tough time with the texturing. Snowsultan, can you do one of your amazing seam guides for this?

gryffnn ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 4:52 PM

Hiram - your advertising is much, MUCH too modest. For the more technical user, you can fiddle with the scaling, and get (wait for it....) RECTANGLES! The possibilities are mind boggling!

Hiram ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 8:25 PM

Oooooh!! Oooooh!!! I hadn't thought of THAT! I'm gonna buy another one!!
