Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 17 1:08 pm)
Have you tried importing it into Poser, using the grouping tool to group the figure separately, and then export just the ship? If I'm understanding your explanation, I'd think that would work. Then the exported ship could be re-imported again. Good luck with it, and post here if it works. (Not familiar with SWMA, what type of site was it?)
everything you need to know about doing this is in the user guide that came with poser.you don't have to do all the exporting and importing stuff.there's a selection for create new model once you've got everything you want highlighted.just create new model with new name and delete old model, save new to poser prop library
Ahhh after some confusing trials, lelionx appears to be right. I imported the 3ds file then clicked on the grouping tool. I highlighted the model I wanted to keep (by dragging the mouse over it until it was all highlighted) then clicked on 'create new prop' on the grouping tool menu. The tricky part was that after I closed the grouping tool menu, it didn't look like it changed anything, but what had really happened was that the old model was there as well as the new one, but the new one was on top of the old one and I couldn't see it until I either deleted the old model or moved it. Anyways, it worked. Thanks guys, appreciate the help. Now I got to figure out how to add textures to it. lol
Just tried that. It didn't have a UV Map, so I was able to create one and resave the object. Worked real well. My problem now is trying to get a UV map that sufficiently seperates the area of the object well enough for me to use as a texture template. But at least I now know how to make one. :) Thanks guys.
friarblues that's another thing you can do with the grouping tool.make seperate groups for the model.that way when you export the obj and open it in uvmapper you can make maps of each group.just make sure you get the right polygons and all the polys for each group.some of the s.w. models can be pretty complex.it might help to switch back and forth between smooth and wireframe.when using the grouping tool.

Here's my dillema. Way back when SWMA still was around I downloaded tons of models. I don't have a 3d editor other then poser, and when I upload a 3ds object this is my prob... In many of the models they come as a ship with a human next to it as a height reference. I wanna get rid of the human refrence but when I click on the object in poser it highlights the ship and man as one object. Is there a way to get around this? Or perhaps a 3d editor thats free out there that I can open up 3ds objects and delete part of it and resave it so I can import it into poser?
