Subject: Parent child problems

Hi all! I have two figures in a Poser4 scene. I want to make one the parent and the other the child so that they will move at the same time and in the same way. I have tried what the manual says on pages 296 through 298 and nothing seems to be working. I am on a Mac, if that makes any difference. I would really appreciate a step by step explanation of how this is done. Thanks in advance, Tony Lane

I have a nasty feeling poser can't do what you want without hacking the cr2 file of at least 1 of the figures, I tried and the second figure goes wild, have a look at a tutorial on ERC/EMC they can be found at www.rbtwhz.com & www.nerd3d.com it might be your best bet. Rob

hmmmmm... you might try conforming one to the other, but then move the conformer off to the side. hypothetically, that should make the conformer figure mimic the poses of the conformee figure. to get this to work properly, you probably need to zero out the potential conformer, memorize the figure, then conform it. but, i have no idea if it will work. it sounds cool, so it probably won't. :) let us know!

I tried it last night, all that happened was the second figure moved into the first and tried to combine with it, and they stayed glued together when I tried to move 1 away. Rob

If dragging on the heirarchy editor doesn't work, have you tried Figure-->Set Figure Parent? Sometimes Poser gets snippety.

hmmmm.... circle, drag the conformed figure by the hip, not by the body. i'm pretty sure that works. i noticed in adjusting conforming items that the body trans dials don't do anything. the conformer might still try to stick onto the conformee when you do that, though. i'm not sure quite exactly how that works; if the conformer just jumps on the conformee and then copies it's pose, or if the joint centers attempt to nail themselves to their counterparts and stay there.

Ron (c1rcle) mentioned something in his post that might help me with ANOTHER project I am working on. Ron, you said that you did something and the the two figures became glued together and tried to combine. Could you give me a "step-by-step" on how you did that? Just pretend you are talking to a brain dead flatworm (grin) and I should be able to grasp it. Also, in the heirarchy editor I click on a part once and it won't drag. I click on it twice and it becomes selected and boxed and it STILL won't drag. Is there some key-click ritual that I am mising? When I click once I get a cursor with an "X" below it This makes me feel like a brown shoe at a tuxedo convention.... Tony Lane

heyas; he just conformed one to the other. you can tell any figure to conform to any other, even if they're not made to go together. your results may end up being very strange, however :) a cursor with an x under it? never seen that. are you trying to drag a body part in an ik chain that is turned on (ie: a leg part)? make sure your figure/part is not locked, too. if you look at the dial list, the name at the top will say (locked) if it is.

Well, I done fix'ed it! Couldn't have done it without y'all pointing me in the right direction and for that you have my most humble thanks! Turns out CONFORM was the right way to go. From this point there is MAJOR tweaking needed but that is just busy work. I should have a picture available in a few days and the character available for d'loading real soon after. Again, THANX! it did? >it worked?? >you're kidding, right??? Yes, up to a point it worked but, as I said MAJOR tweaking was needed. Since then I have found ANOTHER way to do it that seems to work more betterish. When I post the final figure I'll tell what I had to do. Tony
