I am new at Poser (I am a 3dsmax user). I have just installed it a few days ago, so I don't really know much about it. The first thing I have seen is that the textures depend on the model you are using (obviously). I am using P4 models, and I have seen that most of the textures that can be found are made for Victoria, V2, Steph, ... Where can I find these models? Are they free? What are the main differences between these models and the P4 model? Thank you.

Victoria, Victoria 2 and Stephanie aren't free models but can be purchased from www.daz3d.com The difference is that Victoria 1 & 2 and Stephanie have a much higher polygon count than the default P4 figures and they generally look more realistic (and also pose and morph better because of the better mesh)

Hi, I'm pretty new to poser too, and found the whole vicki/victoria/steph/posette thing totally confusing at first. Vicki/Victoria, Stephanie, Michael, the 'Millennium Kids' & co are figures produced by a company called DAZ3d (find them at DAZ3D.com, and check out the on-line store.) They also have some great freebies. As a newbie, I was annoyed at the 'piecemeal' way they sell things - you buy one thing, then find it's pretty much useless unless you buy something extra - like, when you buy the Victoria figure, it doesn't even come with one default skin. I was really annoyed about that! Now, I can understand why they operate that way, I think... it cuts the size of the download, and you only buy exactly what you want. Though I still think it wouldn't have killed them to include even one default tex... But the models are so realistic that they make the P4 figures look like Barbie and Ken. (oh, by the way, the P4 female is 'Posette' and the male is 'Dork') And for the ultimate, get Vicki/Michael and check out the ultra realistic skin texs by Stefy Zampini available here in Renderosity - stunning. You do a render, and it's hard to believe you're looking at a bunch of binary data, not a real person... They're so realistic that they make the default Victoria and Michael look like Barbie and Ken! i hope this helps! (Check out the FAQ file here. There's some great stuff in it. You might want to visit my Freebie & Tutorial Site. You'll find some great tutorials geared toward the Newbies, and even some great freebies. By the way, the questions you've asked are asked a few times a week. You can easily do a search of this forum for those topics. You can also view the FAQ at the top of this page. The right textures and lighting can help even the default Poser people look pretty good. John-on-the-Run and HappyWorldLand have good free textures. You can find some global lighting sets in free stuff here, and the tutorials at Poser Arcana are quite good in helping you to set up spotlights. Kozaburo of DigitalBabes has excellent free hair, and a tutorial, too! :) Traveler of MorphWorld 3.0 has created thousands of morphs, and he has tutorials on his site and at Runtimedna. I'd suggest learning how to compose, texture, and light your basic characters before spending a small fortune on the premium characters, clothes, props, scenes, and all the other goodies. (The prices asked for various items are very reasonable, but it does add up.) As a Max user, this should be pretty fast for you. We have some incredibly talented people here and in the other Forums. They have pushed the program beyond what its designers have envisioned. Most of them are willing to help by answering questions or leading tutorials. Carolly

Carolly' suggestions are right on. SnowSultan/Staale's VickieBuster texture for P4 females in Free Stuff is very good (noncommercial use only). I size the irises on the HappyWorldLand textures to 90% in Photoshop, otherwise very nice with a lot of variety.

You can save money by getting the Vicky CD which includes a clothing pak, 2 tex maps and one hair.
